A rancher who's chanel I watch decreased their costs this year by buying in bulk from a grainery 70 miles away and has gained a significant savings.

I have lots of hopes and ideas for our little place. I watch several farm channels and I often wonder,
"How can they afford that fencing, that feed, that tractor.....
    Thank you for this!

Yes, quite a juggling game with managing costs vs income. Sadly many costs keep rising unexpectedly, while income also remains uncertain till after the fact.
So year profit is very uncertsin.

Love your videos and cows. You mentioned a bull calf could sell for a little over a thousand dollars. Was wondering for how much a female calf would sell? Watching you and your family care for your cows really warms my heart. Thank you!

Bottle baby might be nice to show young people . Like the 4H' ers Ithink that is what they called the young ranchers . If you have really tame one it would be nice to show people .

There’s a cart that you put the round bale in that has a spare right in the middle and it’s on wheels and then you drag it around your pasture and it unrolls the whole bail in the theory is they don’t trample it all into one spot and waste so much and you’re reseeding your pasture

  • @HillsideHighlands

Our highlands go at the round bales the same way! We have been using a tombstone hay ring that’s made for horses. Been using it for 3 years now and it has worked out great. Really saves on hay loss. As far as a squeeze chute we have found that the manual head gate works out best. It’s hard for them to get those horns worked through the way an automatic catch works. Hope this helps!

I'm hoping to rotationally/regeneratively graze to significantly reduce feed costs (with 1-2 cows on 5 acres) but this was super helpful to have a realistic expectation and what to be prepared for. But, like you said, you also get to a point where you just need to start and figure it out!
