I've been trying to design a bookshelf to cover a 12 foot section of a wall. With all my books I was trying to figure out how to make it strong enough with wood to handle the weight. Then I thought maybe I could build it out of square extruded steel. So UA-cam had the answer and of course it can be done and it can look great doing it. Now I just need to learn to weld. Thank You
Beautiful! I made something similar but with 1/4” thick x 3”x3” angle iron (heavy stuff). It’s bigger than this shelf but I made it with all steel 2,000lb rated caster wheels. The shelf holds full ammo cans from top to bottom with various ammo calibers. It’s in my garage and moved freely when I need to move it away from the walls and whatnot and for whatever reason. Primarily, because the wall it sits up against has some 240v electrical outlets I need access to and my home water pressure regulator piping sits there as well. If I have to access that stuff, I just roll that “tank” of a shelf out of the way. I welded it all up with 7018 1/8” stick electrodes. I’ve since made two more for my brother and a buddy of mine. They just paid for the materials, scotch and dinner! 😛
Great! Would be very helpful to the viewer to see the final product at the beginning of the video, too. To know what we will see being built. Show more of the finished product at the end, too, it's beautiful and we want to look at it in detail!
Prep work consisted of wiping it down with acetone to remove all the grease and oil. After applying and waiting the desired amount of time I rinsed with water or wiped down with a water soaked rag. I think a lot of it comes down to the finish you want. How uniform, dark, etc. yes, I applied a clear satin top coat which makes it look much better. Good luck!
Happy to see a new projects of yours !!!!! I really enjoy the video and i m thinking that this bookcase will look much better to my house , i can accept as a gift hahaha , Very nice job indeed !!!!
Another awesome project, buddy, great job! I've been a fan of yours for a while and your work has a big influence in my builds. Keep up the great work. You will probably see some of your techniques in some of my videos. (your bandsaw scraping is in an upcoming video I'm editing now, should be out soon). Thanks!
Excellent build and awesome looks! (btw, there something glitchy in the audio when you speed up the video, nothing major, just letting you know it's there)
Does your Dewalt Saw use carbide blades offer. I bought a new Saw and the tip have broken off of many parts of the blade . I haven't had the Saw a year yet
Hey Kirk Frei, yes it is. I love it. I started with the original 30 and got the 45 for increased Cut depth and speed. No idea what the specs are on the 30 and 45 XP's, I'm sure they'll make me jealous though!
A Modern Maker Not sure of all the upgrades on the 45xp, it does cut thicker material by maybe 1/8" and I think it auto adjusts air pressure, might have some other things also. Really only need the 30xp plus it runs in 110v but the 45 is set up for cnc, just a dream as there pretty pricey
just found your channel, this is exactly the kind of work I like and would love to get into building. just subbed to you here and IG. going to binge watch most of your older vids to catch up lol
At 4:00 you applied glue only to the tenons and not anywhere else in between. I realize the domino tenons are strong, but not even a lil glue along the entire edge of the board? Nice work otherwise...Keep it up.
Thank you! Since they’re supported from underneath I only used the dominos to keep the boards aligned and together. I’m hoping as the humidity changes they warp slightly and add more gaps/character to each shelf.

tstuff Thanks and good luck! That would look really nice.
Tool envy engaged! What a cool workshop!!!
Okay, in my feeble mind, marking the painters tape for the joinery is genius.

Great! Would be very helpful to the viewer to see the final product at the beginning of the video, too. To know what we will see being built. Show more of the finished product at the end, too, it's beautiful and we want to look at it in detail!

Did you skip all the annoying prep work suggested by Sculpt Nouveau and it still looked that good?? Any rinsing or too coat afterwards?
Prep work consisted of wiping it down with acetone to remove all the grease and oil. After applying and waiting the desired amount of time I rinsed with water or wiped down with a water soaked rag. I think a lot of it comes down to the finish you want. How uniform, dark, etc.
yes, I applied a clear satin top coat which makes it look much better.
Good luck!

Can I ask, what are you using to weld it?
Should be in the description. But it’s a Lincoln MP210 I believe
Good job 🇨🇵
Thanks!
Whats the measurment of the angle u use? It is really nice !
Thanks! Which angle are you talking about?
Square tubing?
Yes 1.25” square tubing.
do you know how much it could cost for a company to do this work for a client?
No idea. I’d guess $300-1000 depending on the company and how custom it is.
Nicely done, but it won't work for me. I have a lots of books and the spaces are too big!
That’s a great problem to have 👍
Awesome job...what was the stains and varnishes used...very nice project. Thanks for sharing 😎🍻🎸☠️👍👍
What's the front-to-back depth? I have a couple of fishtanks I'd love to put on something like that, but I'm not sure they'd fit securely.
I think it was about 14" but you could build it to any dimension for the fish tanks.
Hi, how are you ?. You would tell me what measure it has. very good job greetings.
Nice
Thanks!
Өте тамаша!
Parabéns amigo, ficou show .
Cool.....I dig it.
Thank you!
Good job, gretings from Argentina
I appreciate it Luciano!
Great idea with the feet. What type of finish was that on the steel?
Thanks! It’s a metal patina by Sculpt Nouveau called Black Magic
Trabajo bien hecho
Gracias!
What did you spend on the iron part for him to shine?
What do you mean?
Is there any way to buy the frame without having to weld it together myself? I don't have this skill
At this time I don’t have time to sell any. Possibly in the future!
Nice job. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Muddy Fences!
Awesome man, thanx for the inspiration.
Thank YOU for watching.

Qué bonita!Yo quiero una igual! How much?
Gracias! I didn’t build in to sell...
A Modern Maker. it was a joke
🤣
Oh ok. Haha

Normal
Hello @A Modern Maker
, could you say what is the name of that tool that you use to make the joints between woods? Thank you!
That’s a Festool Domino joiner.

Thanks Maker956! That's the ultimate complement in my opinion! I look forward to checking your videos out.
Also, what is the tool called that you're using at the 3:45 mark? Just the general type of drill
It’s a Festool Domino. Similar to a biscuit joiner.
What size square tubing did you use?
1 1/4?
1.5"
Hey man you should do what some other silent youtubers to, which is say what you're doing inside the captions... Would be cool!

Gracias Angel Roberto Sánchez Pérez
Does your Dewalt Saw use carbide blades offer. I bought a new Saw and the tip have broken off of many parts of the blade . I haven't had the Saw a year yet
Yes. Have to cut slow and steady to save the teeth.
Nice build, is that a Hypertherm Powermax 45, how do you like it. I'm looking at the Powermax 30xp or 45xp. Thanks
Hey Kirk Frei, yes it is. I love it. I started with the original 30 and got the 45 for increased Cut depth and speed. No idea what the specs are on the 30 and 45 XP's, I'm sure they'll make me jealous though!

Kirk Frei I agree. I bought both the 30 and 45 on Craigslist at less than half retail price after months/years of daily checking.
nice build!! what did the finish product weigh?
Thank you! Probably around 70 lbs
Nice job. Where do u buy the black stain or whatever that was you were putting on the metal?
Thank you. It’s Sculpt Nouveau Black Magic. They sell it on their website.
just found your channel, this is exactly the kind of work I like and would love to get into building. just subbed to you here and IG. going to binge watch most of your older vids to catch up lol
Thank you!
めっちゃかっこいいです
Slick build. Sub'd. Cheers.
Thanks!
beautiful work. I've subscried to your channel.
+Diego Basterrica Thank you!
What kind of wood did u use?
Whitewood/pine. The cheap 1x wood at major Home centers.
+A Modern Maker thanks
Any time.
Top di mais. Parabéns.
At 4:51 what do you apply to the wood ?
I applied stain. Early American I believe.
what were the dimensions of the metals?
1.25” square, and 1/2” square tubing. The rebar was about 3/8” diameter.
Do you recall the wall thickness of your 1.25" square tubing?
I don’t recall offhand. I know it was less than 0.120” but not the thinnest available.
A Modern Maker awesome. Thank you.
You’re welcome!
Do you have the list of materials ?
No I don’t, sorry. Hopefully in the future!
It looks really good. Past what I did. Can you look at it? I built a table;)
just in case you need to put your car on your book shelf lol.
At 4:00 you applied glue only to the tenons and not anywhere else in between. I realize the domino tenons are strong, but not even a lil glue along the entire edge of the board? Nice work otherwise...Keep it up.
