I have owned a 10*10 section of 1 5/8" tatami Dollamur mat since Christmas 2016. Mats continue to hold up well, but you are spot on about the tape residue even with the specialty vinyl. Great review!
Great video....helps alot. Much apprecited. Just went back through your videos to look for the possible video on how you made the underbase. Since this appears to be your highest viewed video...might be worth the effort to show how you made the underbase. I don't see much on YT in regards to this..just a thought.
Enjoy watching all your UA-cam reviews and how you have set things up. Really like how organized your gym is and that you have a dedicated MMA/Gymnastics/training bag area. Would like to see how you did the flooring underneath the mats. Thanks!
I'm in the process of building a private gym that will have basically 30m2 of mat space. I was going to do the pool noodle subfloor but there are some sections where the height is limited so I ended up choosing double mats. I'm in Argentina and importation is absurdly hard here so I'm having to make do with what I can source locally. For the mats I'm using two different types, one that is 5cm and pretty high density and the other 10mm and softer like a yoga mat. The large tarp isn't nearly as expensive as I thought it would be. It wasn't cheap but apparently they use some process to fuse strips of it together into one large seamless tarp so it isn't a huge amount of work. The thick pads were about 25% more than puzzle mats but a little less than 3x as thick.
@@MacStrengthCo I didn't fully get this until I saw your video and heard you describe your need (versitile home gym that'll support whatever sport you happen to want to do that day). Thank you.
I have a dollamor like mats (don't know the brand) for wrestling... Had it for over a decade I don't remember seeing anyone with a Velcro option when buying back then... Cleaning up mat tap sucks the wider tape helps but it's still a dirty mess... I'd want to see a video on a homemade floating floor. I didn't even know that was possible/an option till you referenced it.
I've noticed Dollamur seems to be going away from the velcro option but it's still available. The tape is a pain to deal with and I noticed it shrinks from temps too. I'll do a video on the DIY floating floor coming soon. cheers!
That's an idea for sure but I would suggest try them on their own first. The mats on their own work but don't want people to think they will absorb a judo throws over and over. I think for general wrestling/ training they would be fine on their own.
100% the coolest garage gym I’ve ever seen
Really a nice add-on to the gym. What a great father you are!
A $500 subfloor is whole hell of lot cheaper than a trip to the ER.

Appreciate that. I've actually stopped taping all together now. Seems to be working ok.

That's coming up soon. I'll over the entire process. Appreciate the support for the channel. cheers!
@@user-sd8bz2zr5j It's on my list. I have to pull up the floor and fix a couple things on it this summer and will combine that into a DIY video.

sounds like you got it working great.
My home Mats personal regret going tatami afraid of sickness for mma. Skin burns hurt. Lesson learned (15 yrs ago) early on. 🥧 👏 nice 👍 💪
ya even smooth has texture on it.

Love your videos !!
Glad you like them!
Cool area. Do you think doubling up on the mats instead of having a floating subfloor would have a similar feel?

My uncle is a wrestling coach, he bought a full size Velcro mat. IT DIDNT WORK Velcro peels quickly and takes may with it
Im nearly 4 yrs with these mats and no issues. I use the tape to keep the seams tight.
What are the measurements of your gym and total square feet and height please.wanna know if did again would you go bigger or smaller?
gym area is roughly 1000-1200 sq ft
What sq footage is that section and how much did it cost? Thanks
is there a video of building the platform?
Yes this would be welcome!!!
coming this summer when I pull it apart to rebuild it.
Yes sounds good floating floor video !!
Sounds good!
Id like to see that floating floor video
Gotta be smooth. Easier to clean and WAAAAY less mat burn.
yup. even the smooth is got too much texture almost.
Awesome review. Bust just say you're raising power rangers or special ops agents.
They think they are power rangers. ha ha
What are the black wall mats?
just some generic ones off Amazon.
This gym is amazing
this is the setup brother
