- How to make a portable toilet for less than one of those commercial ones. The luggable Loo I was just told is cheaper. You can get the lid for about $11.99 but no bucket.
Don't forget, while transporting, you can keep all your toilet supplies in the bucket. Might as well use the space.
Excellent job. There are places where you simply cannot buy the ready made buckets that have the toilet seats on them so some people need to know how to DIY this. Thanks a lot!
napa modesto Amazon Prime... $19.99 delivered.
I love how the bucket says, "Let's do this" willing you to victory
I prefer the Lowes bucket that says "Do it right."
Me too.
Haha I saw that too. I was thinking they you can ad to the “let’s do this” by squeezing in another “O” and then another “DOO” for “let’s doo doo this right”.
I love this idea. I've always used just the bucket and 13 gallon bags but it's not very comfortable. Thanks for a really great idea that is also frugal.
That demonstration at the end sealed it for me!
I have read that some are recommending some plastic snap-on toilet seats, but I spent some time reading reviews on these and some people complained that the inner circle was smaller than that of a standard toilet seat and was a problem for some men. That's why I've wanted to make one out of a really solid, actual toilet seat like this. With a wooden drop-down lid, it would make a sturdy seat to sit on, too. Thanks for this!!
Got my luggable loo lid and seat for $10 and the 5 gallon bucket for free at my local grocery store bakery. Actually getting ready to do a video about making a sanitary shtf toilet. Love the ingenuity..great vid!
This is totally what I needed. Thank you for sharing your method. I have all the elements of the project. The last trip was bad due to toilet hunting at 5am.
If you'd cut two pieces of plywood, one with the hole slightly bigger than the top of the bucket, and one like you did cut, with the bigger one on the bucket side it'd provide a lip all the way around the top of the bucket. Just a thought.... Thanks for posting. I'm building one this week!
Thanks. i think this is what i'm going to do in my mini van urban stealth camping project.
***** Thank you for watching. I have used this in an emergency and it was great.
Just make sure to not lean back.
Some ppl R saying they could buy something cheaper, but for me it would be a fun little project to do myself even if it is just a CRAPPER. ITS A NICE LITTLE PROJECT 4 THE KIDS TO DO AS WELL TO PREPARE 4 A CAMPING TRIP OR WHAT NOT. THANKS 4 THE BEST DIY TOILET I'VE SEE SO FAR !!!😀
I think this is great! I looked at all the "luggable loo" types and they were all really flimsy and hit & miss on sealing to the bucket. The next grade up from those were just too pricey. Even the WalMart brand "Ozark Trail" camp toilet was $40. This idea fit the bill and is sturdy. I found the seat at WalMart for $7. I already had several 5 gallon buckets lying around that I'd gotten for free. I even had a scrap piece of plywood that I'd also gotten for free. After breaking out the drill, the jigsaw and a few screws for the wood supports to keep the seat secure, it was done in no time. Some dollar store kitty litter and 13 gallon trash bags, ($5), and she was ready to take some crap. LOL Great idea, man! Thanks!
This is great Kalishfreak. I glad to hear that you were able to benefit from this video. Thank you for watching.
Haha. . So helpful of a video for home emergency use!
I like your idea...and your sense of humour :) You were funny when you tried your toilet LOL !!! i ll make one just like yours for camping
I have a plastic seat made for the 5-gallon bucket, called "Lugable Loo." It works great, and snaps on and off easily. Ten bucks, winter 2019. I use clumping cat litter, a little in the bottom and a sprinkle on top. To use it several times, I remove the lid, pull the bag over to one side of the bucket rum, and then snap the lid back on, sealing the bag from putting odors in the air. To use it again, I snap off the lid, pull the bag open on the bucket rim, snap the lid back on, and go. Then I repeat the sprinkle of kitty litter and seal the bag onto one side again, securing it with the Loo lid. No woodwork, good to go!
Watch for condensation when uncovering!
WOWWWWWW Thank you sooooo much this is the best I've seen. I'm definitely going to try this. Thanks sooo much I'm tellin all my friends.
This is great! I think this is a wonderful affordable design.
This is the easiest DIY bucket/seat I have seen. Watched the video and made the cutout in less than an hour :)
Awesome video, cool animation too.
Thanks!
Lol, thanks for the demo at the end!
I just wanna say this video is informative and whatever you recorded on was great
Awesome video and tutorial. Great job, man. :)
Thank you for watching. Glad you liked it
Best one I’ve seen. Great idea
just come across this, ! needed a port-a-loo for my overnite guests in my adega, I don't need to see anymore, you've made it so simple and all I do is surround the bucket in a brick built surround! brilliant and thankyou! allritythen! mal.
THank you for watching mallyob. Glad you liked it.
Thank you, great tip!
Need to sell them. I could certainly buy one. Awesome work!!!!
Was perfect my friend
The Best idea I have found, thank u for sharing it👍
I made something similar.. but went into a deep hole but also used ur bucket and toilet seat. you made handle, great addition!
*great idea could you have used the bucket lid to mount the toilet lid on*
Awesome....I needed something like this when I on field Exercises would have been convenient at nights, when the nearest Port of Potty was 200 yards away.
We followed your video and now have a camping toilet thanks for the post love it
Miranda Hanna that’s awesome. I’m happy you guys where able to do it
allritythen yes we used it for a month camping
Thank you So much this was so VERY helpful!!
..perfect grunt angle..lol..guess what? This is going into a brand new rv...
Very cool...I'm working on a project very similar to yours for a space the same dimensions as a Thetford prota potty...but dont want to dedicate this empty space to just that toilet...and don't say just remove the Thetford from the space....it defeats the purpose of my gadget minded goal. That top of that space also remains as the first step to get into my upper bunk in a Sun Lite truck camper with a crank up roof....space is valuable. Thanks for the secure the seat to the secure surface by three pegs...simple genius.
Awesome video bro, subbed.
Interesting video!
Excellent vid of a proper 5 gallon camp toilet seat. One thing I would suggest is having a separate bucket for pee and one for poo if the users are both male and female. This prevents a spashy, messy slurry. Don't count on your 4 year old to be able to pull this off. Plus, pee is organic, unlike poo (it could contain bad stuff) and can be dumped on the ground. You can sprinkle kitty liter over fresh poo and in the pee bucket, just a cap full of RV toilet treatment if you can't dump daily. If male only, you only need one for poo and use a quart plastic container (like nuts come in) with a screw on lid. Another tip is to double up the bags in the poo bucket.
I like the handle part for carrying the toilet lid... I bought my lid from Walmarts for $11.95... i actually found my 2 buckets....
Hot dog, I thought those 450$ buckets were a scam. This is sooo cool. $15 bucks and a trash bag. Thanks a million
THIS IS 👏🏽 BRILLIANT 👏🏽 THE BEST 1 I'VE SEEN YET! 👏🏽 LOOKS LIKE I MIGHT BE ABLE TO DO THIS MYSELF. EASY ON/OFF, PUT LID ON TO TRANSPORT THE WAST 👍 👌
very useful and practical, great!
Thanks man!!! This video is top notch. Easily #1 or #2......or both, if ya have to. ;)
Awesome and entertaining video !!!
THank you for watching
This is stinking good!!!
Awesome....LETS DO THIS!
+Lee Brooker That was the best part of the vid. Not sure if he mean for that to happen but I LOL'ed
😂outstanding bro!
😂 I knew you were gunna make the pooping face hahaha , this was the best video I’ve seen yet . It’s fun building things isn’t it . I need some tools
How solid is the lid/seat? Is the plastic thick and sturdy, or is it more flimsy?
i love this guy. dont carry drinking water bc "it wouldn't be prudent" LOL
good idea only thing i would do different is to route the bucket hole so the seat will fit down over the lip of the bucket maybe 1/4 to 3/8 deep would work fine i bet
I'd cut the hole the same as the O.D. of the bucket and attach to the seat with some screws, but buying a hassock unit from Amazon just made better sense.
I had to sub this is efficient and hilarious!
Excellent video!! It's so much nicer to sit on a REAL toilet seat too. If you are going to leave it in the same place, like a shelter etc. It's a good idea to put a rock, or scoop of sand in the bucket. Helps keep it in place when removing the bag.
Good idea
The best trick I've seen, is place bucket into a plastic milk crate. Makes it much sturdier while doing your business also.
Lol it says let's do this on the bucket.
Radioflyer05 😂😂😂😂😂
Thank you for this idea!!! My wife and daughter will not travel because of the Covid 19. I've got a hunting pop up for privacy. We are hitting the road tomorrow!!! Your a life saver 😁😁
YOU ARE WELCOME. My wife has a thing about peeing in public. with this she did and did not complain. enjoy. it worked like a charm. you can also bring kiti litter to absob the liquids
Thanks for sharing this brilliant idea. Just pick up the bucket and seat from Home Depot and it is only $10.
amazing yaar !!!
Love it!
Just now came across this video and can offer a couple of tips. Unclip one side of the bucket handle, slide in a roll of toilet paper on the plastic handle and then clip the handle back on to the bucket. Fold and tape the big plastic bag 3/4 over the bucket's diameter and put in 2 qt plastic bottle. On the bottom side of the wood bucket seat cover, attach a funnel for urine with hose leading to the bottle. Use composting material to cover fecal matter after each use. This will be good for use for several days for solids and need to empty bottle when full. Good luck.
Thank you for video.
U good 👍
you are awesome
Thank you... I will do it.
Got one of these in my house. My husband and I live in a one bathroom house. Spare toilet, just in case.
Well done. ! And made in the U S A.
Add some sawdust/dirt to reuse but watch for condensation when uncovering! T.p. can store in coffee can.
Thank you!
We’ve used lous with the plastic lids daily since they first started making them. My issue with them is that the plastic hinges break after a while. I Like your idea a lot but regular toilet seats allow space between the seat and toilet for flies and bugs to get in and out which makes for a health hazard. Otherwise I’d go for it. Any suggestions?
This is meant to be a one time use. You poop scoop and start over. Never leaving it to build up. You put a new bag after every use. You should not have any flies.
or you could, after each use, remove the seat and fold the bag over itself to seal the bag until next use@@allritythen
Thanks alot.
this is for me the best option so far, also using a bucket but it got too small when , as a lady, I have to do both actions :P
Is there a way to remove one side of the wire handle and slide a role of tp on there?
I saw in another video you can drill another hole and put the end of the handle in there. Also, you can drill yet another hole and attach a bungie cord to the handle to keep it away from the side of the bucket so it rotates freely.
+ Kris Nordberg - I've seen others comment that you can cut the handle on the bucket thru the middle and put the tp roll on the handle. then just angle the bucket so the handle is on the side. Hope that helps.
You don't need the lid or the wood..put the bag over the seat. You can use the bag for small bits of trash until you do your thing, then pull up the bag thru the seat and dispose of quickly.😉
Dale Humphrey excellent idea, i like this simple and practical
Thanks Bro
I’ve got an abundance of the big tidy cat litter buckets. I bet u could make it out of one of those too.
I bet you can make a bunch. As long as they hold water you are good.
right?!!? Lol!!
u could also connect a hose to a funnel, then run the hose into a jar w/a lid. This way u can tie off bag with solids & also keep liquid in spill proof jar until u could dispose of it properly (or use it for composting)
If you remove one side of the handle & slide a roll of toilet paper on it (& put the handle back on) then u have a roll of TP always at the ready as well.
Great job man. People always want to tell you how much cheaper the the plastic crap commercial one is. Does the luggable loo give you the sense of satisfaction of building your own?
Thank you Joshua, thats what i'm talkin bout.
very nice
Great for camping
Hey Alritythen, This is great, thanks for sharing. I think a peg for the toilet paper is missing, but I will add to mine. On another topic, and maybe an idea for a future project, do you have something other than an old water bottle for the `midnight` piss (for guys of course, sorry ladies)? It would be especially helpful when it's freezing outside and you don't want to go outside...
Unhook the metal bucket handle and hang ure roll on it, then and snap handle back on. You could also use larger trash bags, tie it off after u go, then do it all over again the next time u gotta go. 😊
This is awesome but there a premade ones on Amazon especially made to fit a 5 gallon bucket for like $15. I’m not savvy enough to make one on my own.
Beaut!
This guy must feel like a genius!
Feel...I Know, he must. the way he carries on and stuff.
Having a shower curtains to make a tent is a good idea if i can say so myself.
coooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool!
What's the Max weight can sit on these buckets 🪣 🤔
I can stand on one at 200 lbs and use it to walk around with under my feet with no problems. Dry walkers use the buckets as step stools. There is a technique that while standing on the buckets you shift your weight left and right and you can actually walk around on them. And they hold up.
Sniffing, and commenting on others people's poop on the job, what it smells is not there bisnass right. I love this toilet.
MR INVENTOR, please can we have this explored more so we can get the continent of AFRICA market with almost 1.8 billion people to buy. Right now the average price for a similar communal use and BIO DIGESTER WASTE UNIT is ASTRONOMICAL!
it´s a good idea, but does it support the weight of a person of 110 kilos?
I don't see why it wouldn't!
I would have fixed the black lid to the bottom of the ply with some short screws and glue that would save it moving around.
Better idea. Buy the cheapest toilet seat you can find. I bought a white painted wood seat for $6.95 at Lowes. I removed the cover, the hinges and the pads in the front. Now take the handle of a 5 gal. bucket and tape it up out of the way. Lay the seat upside down and locate exactly where you want the bucket. Mark around the bucket with a Sharpie Marker. Get three 2x2 pieces of wood about 3 inches long and arrange them in a triangle on the seat. Sand the area where these pieces will be glued and using a hot glue gun glue them to the toilet seat. Use two 13 gal. garbage bags just to be safe and you ready to go. When finished I don't try to save them. I just tie them off and drop the bag full of goodies in a trash can like everyone does with dog crap and baby diapers. If you try to get more uses out of one set of bags I would put some cat litter in the bottom but I never do. Hope this helps some of you guys and gals. Total cost $10 and change for the toilet seat and the bucket.
Hey you know u can buy this set up for about $15-17 online on amazon. Bucket and a bucket lid that pops on secure. Just wanted to let you know. Still good DIY thou
Can just put a bag inside. The close the bag tight. And throw. It’s tidier.
Does the lid stay up by itself?
Yes it does
Does it only cost 15 bucks for the toilet seat
Hank, The seat itself is about $9.99+$3.00 bucket+$2.00 extra.
Thanks you allritythen
You very nice
That's a good idea but I would get the toilet like the elderly use because it's already a toilet
#Greatjob
or just buy a lid made for 5gal buckets for around the same price
Might wanna put a clear coat on the raw wood to make it easier to clean. I have the luggable loo for portability but i might do this for staying at the house for extra comfort. Build a magazine rack for it next!
what is the make and name of the tool you use to fix the pegs?.
18 gauge air nailer
Awesome job but you you forgot to put the toilet paper on the bucket. Where are you supposed to put the toilet paper
It’s a great idea but it’s cheaper to buy it online and a little later
Where do we dump the feces?
