- The biggest part of the Super Smash Bros. speculation scene is trying to guess which characters will make the cut. Yet, a lot of people don't seem to understand why their favourite fighters actually made it in, or why they didn't. A lot of castlevania movement (the slide, dashes, that high Jump attack, the dive kicks, etc) started with the Richter games, thats why Sakurai says something like "who echoes who?" In the presentation.
There are only 2 episodes left in this series (the DLC and the unused fighters for Ultimate) It’s been a wild ride!
Well, Daisy and Peach used to have differences, the trailer even said as much. But a couple patches into the game Daisy is now a 100% clone of Peach, no differences other than decorative stuff.
Daisy used to use Peachs turnips from Sm4sh which gave her some unique properties but I guess that was unintentional because it got fixed. I feel like they really dropped the ball with echo fighters. They went out of their way to introduce and hype-up a new word for clones and then never did anything with them post-launch.
I personally wish the echo fighters were more like Ken compared to Ryu... mostly the same but with a few unique moves or stats.
Easy fix to make Daisy more unique - replace her turnips with the carrots from Super Mario Land, taking away the RNG factor from the down special (in exchange for not having the highs of Peach when she pulls a stitchface or random item, of course). Shame they couldn’t even make one move different for her… just the hurtbox size which is more incidental than anything.

One last thing you forgot to mention, Isabelle was also added due to a new Animal Crossing game (Being revealed as New Horizons later) was in the making, with Smash Bros needing fighters and Animal Crossing on the way, Isabelle was just the logical choice due to her popularity :)

Simon Belmont will always be my Favorite #1 3rd Party Guest Character like to see him in the World of Super Smash Bros.™️ & King K. Rool he has been another popular character that I loved Including Animal Crossing’s Isabelle and Incineroar as my Honorable Mentions for these 3 new fighters for the Main Base-game roster.
Ken Masters was a Great pick for Ryu’s Echo Fighter Including Richter Belmont, Chrom From Fire Emblem Awakening, Dark Samus and Princess Daisy.
I'm tired of people acting like making characters an Assist Trophy is like the worst possible thing that could've been granted to them. If anything becoming an Assistant Trophy is actually the 2nd best thing for a character, right behind playability.
People act like that because a ton of people don't play with items, so they assume that if the character isn't made playable, then they don't exist.
I think it might also be the fact that as an assist trophy the character gets a model and move set, yet are still unplayable. It's like a tease, being juuust out of reach of being able to fully enjoy that character.
@@feathero3 most assist characters barely have what could be considered a full moveset, having 3 to 5 patterns at best
@@KahunaLagoona thats hardly the game´s and the developers fault, as they have finite resources they have to fit as much content as possible and sometimes you dont have enough to make a full character out of it, so being a helper is the next best thing, unless you prefer a mii costume. If anything, the thing that could make the assist trophies more enjoyable is the option to tie them to specific characters every time you get the AT capsule, like Alucard with Richter, the Metroid to Samus, Mother Brain to Ridley, Lyn to Roy, Krystal to Fox, Spring Man to Min Min etc.

I actually really like that matching assist trophy idea! Continuing with it you could have Waluigi to Wario and Zero to Mega Man.
Main problem is the standalone assist that don't really have a match, such as Bomberman or Rathalos. Or playable characters without an assist from their series.

Once they talk about why Sora was chosen for DLC, they should also mention by adding the recent interview about Nomura was picky about Sora's inclusion while Disney was on board with it.

I’m pretty positive & sure that NantenJex (Source Gaming) will explain about Sora Disney’s Kingdom Hearts related to the Interview of Final DLC for Super Smash Bros.™️ ULTIMATE / SSBU Fighter Pass Vol. 2 + Mr. Nomura he was not still sure / little likely confusion he’ll ask Sqaure Enix and Disney will concentrate on that Character as DLC 11 Fighter to be the recognizable pick.
@Mr. Yee I know that Nintendo’s Inkling From Splatoon I feel like that’s Bigger New IP Character to start off with & I’m happy they did it tho but I’m still hoping Octoling will come to Next Smash game probability likely as Echo Fighter.
Also I really noticed that Splatoon Is Popularity might be likely as the same exact thing with Pokémon really Huge & thrilled In Japan 🇯🇵 and West Fans 🇺🇸.
Wish we got Dixie Kong being among the echo fighters.
I think she would made more sense as an Isabelle-like character though

@@jakebarton2528 then shadow could have gotten the chrom treatment and be like a hybrid of different characters (making his moveset a little different) while still being an echo of sonic. Or make him a semi clone with a few smash attacks being different from sonic

Ridley From Nintendo’s Metroid Series But I’m guessing It’s because this “Fan-Favorite” Character that I like how he made it In Super Smash Bros.™️ ultimate & Solid Snake Konami’s Metal Gear I really believe it that It was good scenario way to pick and start off with this journey.

Piranha Plant was Fighter #70 as Free DLC Character that probability Including himself In the Super Smash Bros.™️ Ultimate Main *Base-game* Roster + Still WTF Character that was Unexpected Nintendo fans didn’t knew & Exact same to Rex Mii Swordfighter costume.
You’re right NantenJex it’s likely because Piranha Plant as that Retro Category for R.O.B, Duck Hunt and Mr. Game & Watch.
Yessssssssss this is my favorite series.
I know I'm speculating but I can't help but think that had Three Houses released on its original planned date (2018), Byleth would have made the base roster instead of DLC. Probably might explain why they were the last fighter in Pass 1 if they were a 'holdover' that would have been outdated by the time the next Smash comes out.
I'm curious to know why Nintendo chose certain DLC fighters. I'll speculate and see if the next video shares the se thoughts
Joker- Bit of an out-there choice but I guess you got to start with a bang. Sakurai has stated to be a fan of Persona so if its 'Sakurai bias' then good. The man gave you every Smash character in this game. Let him have this.
Hero- You could say it's cross-promotion but I'd also say it had cultural significance in video games. I like to think DQ is to Japan what Zelda is to Western audiences when it comes to adventurers saving the world
Banjo- Was likely high in the poll. Would probably taken a while to finalise discussions with MicRareSoft
Terry - Like Ryu, SNK always seem up for crossovers. Appears Sakurai has an affection for his original series
Byleth- As mentioned above. Technically a Koei-Tecmo rep in a way?
Min-Min - ARMS missed the boat in the base game. Some fans felt a bit let down by it so likely a go-to choice when Pass 2 came
Minecraft- Sounds like highly requested in ballot. According to Sakurai, it was something Nintendo wanted. Maybe took a while to fully realise how Steve and Co could work in the game.
Sephiroth- A number of factors. When there's Cloud, Seph not far behind. Would likely be a way to pad out the FF content in Ultimate. In a more cynical manner, I wouldn't be surprised if SE pushed for it. IIRC, SE wanted Cloud to be DLC again. Maybe I'm imagining it. Maybe SE vetoed Geno but allowed Seph.
Pyra/Mythra- See Min-Min
Kazuya- Tekken was always spoken about for possible rep even back in SSB4 days. Again, probably took a while to figure how to include. That or Harada had Sakurai in a headlock. That's also possible :P
Sora - Much like Megaman, Sonic and Ridley, very much the 'Oh! They actually went ahead and did it' choice. You know the story for his inclusion. BTW, did you know had Sora not made it, Kazuya and Steve would have swapped places so Minecraft would've been the big surprise final addition
Where did they say Kazuya and Steve would switch places if Sora wasn't included? I've been looking for that info but no such luck.
@@eduardogomez4275 I read it on TV Tropes, which granted isn't a proper source, but as you said, I can't find where the actual statement where it was said but from what I believe it was just a back up plan. I guess its more of a minor detail but hey, there's only one person who could confirm that and that would be Sakurai himself. If I'm wrong I'll just edit the comment.

13:10 This part isn't exactly accurate, given Chrom has a lot of animation changes compared to Roy, so I don't think he was realistically the last one chosen/made given how much went into his production compared to other echoes

Yeah, part of the problem with replacing Chrom in Robin's final smash is who do you replace him with. It has to be a swordsman or you're changing a lot and it has to be an awakening character or it doesn't really fit. That leaves pretty minor characters like maybe Lon'qu and Owain before we get to real bizarre picks.

So this is just a theory I’ve had for a while; a lot of Sonic fans (myself included) were certain that Shadow would’ve made for an easy echo fighter, only to disappointed when he became an assist trophy (AGAIN).
However, since a majority of the newcomers were related to the Smash Ballot, my thought is that maybe there wasn’t enough votes for him.
I personally can admit to this myself, I kept sending in votes for Sora and Megaman Zero, I didn’t bother ever sending any votes for Shadow because at the time he was an assist trophy, and I didn’t expect the next Smash game to be in development so soon after the Wii U one.
Maybe if he had more votes, Sakurai might’ve seen the demand and could have taken more time to make him a fighter.
I would'nt want Shadow to be an Echo fighter anyways he's too different from Sonic for that to make sense.
I asked for Daisy in the ballot. Glad we got her after all, I'm happy with that!

Trivia: Super Smash Bros Ultimate is the first game Piranha Plant makes it's debut as a playable character and the first normal enemy character to be playable in a Smash Bros game.
Piranha Plant is still my favorite Smash Ultimate newcomer!
I'm still happy we got Incineroar. Easily my favorite newcomer next to Plant. Still laughing at the Grinch Leak and other doubters to this day.

I wanted Knuckles as a fighter and not an assistant trophy. I mean just the level of Angel Island alone would be worth it.

Realistically, Tails, Shadow, or Eggman would've been chosen to be playable before Knuckles.

I do feel that the Assist Trophy item is becoming something of a scrappy considering many people view it as the end of a character’s chances in becoming playable.
Honestly I think a assist ballot would be better having people vote on what characters they wouldn’t want playable and would be fine as assists.
Also it’d be amusing if in the event Waluigi became playable, an already existing character got demoted to Assist Trophy like Byleth or Piranha Plant. Like Waluigi swapped out his invite with Byleth or Piranha Plants. Heck imagine if he did that for his fellow assists like Shovel Knight and Shadow.
Honestly, with how much meme representation Waluigi has, putting him in Smash would be the ultimate business move. I'm almost certain a ton of people would buy his DLC just for the memes... I mean just look how hyped people were for the Sans costume!

I was devastated when Decidueye or Rillaboom didn’t make it for smash ultimate because we are missing a fully evolved grass type starter. However I fully recovered from that issue and now my new wanted picks for next game from Nintendo now are raven beak from Metroid Dread, Pauline from Mario, Noah from xenoblade chronicles 3 and now my new wanted fighter meowscarada aka Sprigatito final evolution from scarlet violet Gen 9 or possibly fully evolved grass type starter Pokémon from Gen 10. By the time next smash bros game arrives Gen 9 and Gen 10 will be two current generations for the Pokémon franchise.
I don't think they really care too much about type synergy as much as they care about the character's abilities. Greninja was chosen because he was a Ninja, Incineroar because he was a Heel Wrestler.
Lol if we get meowscarada we would have a starter Pokémon of each type with dark as the dual type honestly kinda too perfect not to happen

Ridley and King K Rool being here was THE hype, even more than everyone is here. Too bad that Geno did not join them, as those three were the trinity of Smash requests. I suspect it was Square Enix decision.
That said, I would love to see Sakurai talk about these inclusions specifically, especially on how he approached such long standing popular requests.
part of the reason why geno wasn't a fighter was because of square-enix and the other reason was because Nintendo doesn't want to revisit any mario rpg characters ever again, Nintendo's decision about doing away with mario rpgs and never revisit them ever again came after the snes classic came out
was there any real reason for Geno getting so requests other than the fact Sakurai liked him and wanted to add him but couldn't (don't know how all that suggesting would've helped now that i think about it)

I always said bandana Dee would be a good choice and people said he was a goomba with a hat and I point to piranha plant both have history as an enemy of the series they are in and basically could have a fun moveset with this
I think anyone who says that doesn't actually know who the heck Bandanna Waddle Dee is... no, he's _not_ just a generic Kirby enemy, he's actually a character that just happens to be the same species.
Besides, as a common enemy in pretty much every Kirby game, that means there's a ton of moveset potential (for example, as you said, Piranha Plant).
@@lasercraft32 Piranha Plant works because half of his moves are references to Mario RPG's, Kirby doesn't have any RPG's. So Kirby enemy's have less to work with.

The only one of Piranha Plant's moves that is based on the RPGs is its side special where it becomes a poisonous piranha plant... all the other moves are based on piranha plants that appeared in mainline mario games. The spiky black and red one appeared in Mario Galaxy, Fire Shooting ones appear in almost every game at some point, the neutral special is based on Ptooeys, which show up in multiple of the New Super Mario Bros. games, AND his up special is based on the hovering Ptooeys.
And Waddle Dee has TONS to work with. First of all, Bandanna Dee literally uses a spear and has an actual moveset in the Kirby games... if Sakurai can make a moveset of Marth, who basically just uses a sword, then he can do Bandanna Dee. Secondly, there's tons of moveset potential based on Umbrella Waddle Dees and Waddle Doos/Beam ability.

I mean, I’m the editor of this video, so a fair share of the footage used in this video comes from matches where I played against opponents in Battle Arenas. So I figure lots of people have played me in Battle Arenas!

Hoping that among the base game newcomers, Inkling, Ridley and K. Rool stay in the next game (among unique choices), while Daisy and Dark Samus stay and be more unique, just as how clones in previous Smash games got more and more progressively unique as each game passes by (barring Lucina and Dark Pit). Also kinda want Richter and Isabelle to replace Simon and Villager respectively as the main series reps, since Richter's more popular and Isabelle's an actual character.
As for Ken, I hope if they have multiple SF characters in the next roster, they're either all based on SF6 instead of SF6 (Sakurai needs to let go of SF2 already, as do most people), or all represent different SF eras (ex. Ryu is SF4 Ryu, Ken is SF6, etc etc)
Honestly, I can't see how you can make Daisy more unique. A great deal of her character is focused on her personality and that's not really tangible to use as a moveset.

luigi has a bunch of different moves from mario even though pretty much all of them don't even reference anything, i don't see why they couldn't do the same with daisy. but to be real is it even worth it for princess daisy of all characters

I want them to make “Octoling” playable but with a whole different moveset, maybe using some weapons or special weapons from splatoon 3 (or older splatoons)
Yeah. A mix of Splatoon 2 and 3 weapons seem pretty viable. The obvious thing is replace the Splattershot with the Splat Dualies that are a little less accurate but, has a built-in dodge. Inkbrush can replaced with the Splatana and the Splat Bomb can be replaced with one of the other bomb subweapons (i.e. Suction Bomb basically the same except it doesn't bounce, Curling Bomb would just slide against the ground and be good ink coverage if they replace the Roller). For Final Smash, it should either be the Killer Wail 5.1, SplashDown or the Tenta Missiles (ink version of Snake's FS)

The in game Tips refers to Dark Samus with she/her terms
Smash literally calls Dark Samus a she in multiple different times. If she was ever intended to be genderless, Nintendo retconned it.
@@christianshark6678 That's the thing, she never was retconned. Prime 2 and 3 all have lore, scan logs, and even interviews refer to Dark Samus as female and that has been carried over into Smash as well. She's never been genderless and is officially recognized as female in all instances when referring to the character.
It's actually kind of funny how much pushback there has been on this lately since she's been female nearly two decades with little debate in the Metroid fanbase, yet upon joining Smash there's been more arguments about it.
Its mostly out of convenience and practicality, since she´s basically an evil clone of Samus, is just easier to refer to DS as female, despite having no biological sex.
In fact, the same goes for Mewtwo and ROB, who are also technically genderless, but still referred as with male pronouns.

Like, I love Halo (Halo 3 IS one of my favorite games ever), but it won't happen until the series properly comes to Nintendo. Until proven otherwise, a franchise needs to have games on Nintendo to be represented even at slightest

No one can convince me DLC wasn't a deliberate middle finger to western audiences.
Waluigi and Shadow The Hedgehog were fan favorites more than Daisy and Sora nobody asked for a Disney character for Smash Ultimate
Tell that to the polls, Sora’s makes sense. Daisy got in is still the matter of filling the roster with Echos no matter if she was popular or not.
Reason for Shadow not making it in was more likely the refusal from SEGA, I’m honestly not kidding once you look at Sonic’s history in Smash and it rather reflects on how SEGA was handling the franchise during the 2010s.
And there’s no possible definitive reason for Waluigi not making it in, it’s just there’s plenty of possibilities why he didn’t make the cut.
Daisy mainly made it because she was an easy addition and Sora was literally the highest voted character on the ballot
@@LucarioShirona the reason waluigi didnt get in was the constant death threats sakurai recieved over the years from waluigi fans if i remember correctly it was Said the creator of tekken who was one of sakurais friends would constantly remind people and deny waluigis smash inclusion due to the past
@@giornogiovanna3311 don’t forget that the Tekken creator did the same with Sora too, likely not aware that Sora was already in the works. I say he was just doing it as a friend looking out for Sakurai.

I can see some assist trophies become playable, like Knuckles, Issac, Zero, Rodin and Alucard because of their complexity. Can't wait to see the cut content episode.
I'm going to be the cynic and say Issac likely will never be in Smash as a fighter.
And the reason for that is that Golden Sun has been dead for over a decade - Camelot asked people to beg for a new Golden Sun when Dark Dawn came out, and the fans either weren't loud enough or there wasn't enough fans to warrant making a new game. Kind of like how Chibi-Robo's team begged people to buy Zip-Lash and the fanbase rejected it because it was a 2.5D platformer.
I don't think adding Issac as a fighter in Smash would also rejuvenate the series either - Marth and Roy brought Western interest to Fire Emblem but Fire Emblem was still going to be making new entries regardless of Smash's involvement.
And while Ice Climbers were cut due to technical limitations for Smash 3DS, the other bit of Sakurai saying there was no real future for them as a franchise was also true - the only reason we have them back in Ultimate is because EVERYONE IS HERE. So logically speaking, Sakurai has no reason to add Issac as a fighter since there's no chance Golden Sun will come up with a new entry.
So we need to ask Camelot for a new Golden Sun.
