hey Shred, have you ever thought about making a video talking about the chords and scales of horror songs like the exorcism, dead silence, mychael myers?
Nice motivational speech at the end lol. And 100% true. I have written a few songs in F#m just cuz I got so bored of Em Am Dm all the time... And it helped me look at things differently. Have since tried major keys even lol

Might be a dumb question but why would some keys be more difficult to play than others? For guitarists. I dont get it. One always plays the same pattern, just in different positions ok the neck
TL;DR: Keys with a lot of open strings in them let me have "extra fingers". Guitar isn't like piano, where its the same pattern repeating up the fretboard. There are actually different patterns that line up with keys in different ways. I don't find that some keys are more difficult, its just that some keys have more useful idiosyncrasies. So like, Bb is what I call a "closed key" where you only play movable voicings and scale patterns (so only fretted notes). It doesn't play all that differently from C# or F#, or any other closed key. If someone finds a closed key "harder" its probably more that its unfamiliar. Open keys have open strings that you can incorporate into chords and melodies. Keys that have a lot of open strings in them open up a lot of opportunities for interesting things. That's why guitarists love keys with a lot of EADGBE in them, and especially D and A in Drop D (DADGBE). So for example, if I was playing in E minor, I could play all the closed voicings and patterns, but I also have a low root note on the low E string, the fourth of the scale on the A string, the minor seventh on the D string, the minor third on the G string, the fifth on the B string, and a higher root note on the high E string. All of these notes can be used to make open chord voicings, drones, and pull offs to the open note. Most banjo technique that I'm familiar with revolves around this type of thing, as does a lot of folk, country, bluegrass, rock, and metal. If I was to play the same song in Eb minor instead of E minor, suddenly I can't use any of that open stuff, I can only use the closed stuff. So its not so much easier, as it is that you lose access to a lot of techniques that guitar players like to use. Its to the point where like if the singer wants to sing in keys where the tonic is Eb or D (usually because a male vocalist has a hard time hitting a high E), the band will just tune down to Eb or D so they have access to their full range of techniques.
No one really ever plays F# Major since you would likely call it Gb major because it has less ‘accidentals’ (sharps/flats) and gives a relative minor of Ebm which is fairly common but as mentioned in the video guitar players usually just tune down to Eb for that sound a la hendrix srv vai etc

I cant believe how metal that Im Blue lick is on a guitar with distortion. I cant wait to play it and seeing peoples reaction.

Metallica never said nothing about the chord progression because it was Dave's. My favorite key is Marty Friedman.
What are You smoking
Dave just Co-wrote solo jump in the fire , solo metal militia, solo phantom lord ( James already had wrote the solo, but gave it to dave, so dave could change it a bit)the mechanix not the four horsemen, lyrics in the mechanix was dave s first try to wrote lyrics, CLIFF hated it because it was glam lyrics) hetfield rewrote it togheter four horsemen, dave did the riff «stolen» from sweet home Alabama
So if we write up the songs he got credit for is
Jump in the fire
Metal militia
Phantom lord
The four horsemen
The song ride the lightning a little piece CLIFF rewrote it
The call of ktulu 20 sec riff before the breakdown, clidd rewrote that to
He co-wrote total 4 minutes and 23 seconds wow
No lyrics
No aragement
He got influence by James that already
Have wrote
Hit the lights
No remorse
Motorbreath
Seek and destroy
Whiplash
Dave is so overrated by megadeth fans
He was not as good playing live, and was not a leader, sometimes dave speaks , sometimes James , he was good when he was not drunk really good on guitar, but kirk nailed his solos so Nothing to loose.

@@SMEDSRUDmusic Dave is so under rated by Metallica fans.

Fear of the dark... key of D. Such a great song
D minor...so technically it's in F major...I think?

Open chord voicings
Ir isn't so much rhe scale, it's more about the chord voicings. More specifically, open chords.

Good answers, thank you. Now i get it
Pretty much what bands like Maiden would do is find every scale that has E for the open Gallop chord to work then work with all the other notes.

Best major: A, E, C#, B
Best Minor: C#m, F#m, Am, Bm
Dude your guitar sounds amazing. What amp and stuff do you use?
Hes probably plugged into an interface and not using an amp.
Needs more cowbell
Agreed. No such thing as too much cowbell.
Cliff Burton new theory, and taught James.
