Personally, the 1976 version portrayed the attack better. Especially Nagumo actually showing some sympathy for them. "A whole squadron. 15 brave crews"

the sacrifice of this torpedo squadron made the attack for the high level Dauntless dive bombers possible. had the Japanese fighter screen been at altitude, the outcome would have been very different.
Sadly this story is probably not true, the A6M2 zero could climb from sea level to 15000 feet in about 5 minutes enterprises SBD squadron attacked 40 minutes later, what they did do is delay the Japanese rearming and refueling of there bombers and force the Japanese to reorganized their fleet after evasive menuivors
@@Strawberry-12. 40 minutes, that time lapse is not dutifully recorded. none the less, what is the excuse for the Mitsubishi Zero fighter screen not to be present and climb to meet these attackers? was Nagumo so null to deck his complete fighter screen to refuel and rearm while the same situation was occurring en masse below decks?
@@volvo1354 There were actually 3 TBD Squadron attacks, one by VT-8 from Hornet (Waldron's Squadron), followed by VT-6 from Enterprise (Lindsay's Squadron) and finally VT-3 from Yorktown (Massey's Squadron). Amazing how they could hear each other talking into the wind like that. As a side note VT-8 had twin 30's in the rear seat at midway.

Sacrifice themselves like samurai these Americans
"Sacrificing themselves like samurai, these Americans."
He does say something similar in this film, following the attack by the Midway airgroup.
"Brave men. We are lucky they have such bad planes"

Arguably the better movie to portray VT-8.

Wrong torpedo squadron unfortunately, the one that drew the Japanese CAS was torpedo squadron 6 (Enterprise's Torp squad).

Wait VT-8 ganged up like that? Hell “Midway” of 1976 was a little better in portraying them.
Not sure why Roland Emmerich switch up the times for the torpedo squadron attacks.
Partially I guess due to Enterprise being the main character per say.

why is the machine gun only 1, not 2 like sbd
Because the twin .30 cal was an upgrade.
Ironically torpedo squadron 8 all had the twin upgrade... movie just gets that minor detail wrong
