How To Make A Gate Self-Closing With A Gate Spring

  • If you want to make your outdoor gate self-closing, I'd recommend using a gate spring. I like these from National Hardware ( amzn.to/3Ov1Upc ). I have a 14" and a 11" installed which means my wood gate closes quite aggressively, including with a breeze, but most of the time a single 14" spring will do the job.

I have to repeat what others have said. I am waiting for you to zoom out so we can see the entire gate. Even when you’re demonstrating the gate all you see is that wooden part but not even the entire gate or the springs. It would be an excellent video if you had some distance from the gate to be able to see how it operates, positions of the springs etc. as a whiter picture than the close-ups of the actual springs themselves.

I for one would like to see it zoomed in closer. We aren't able to see the microscopic structure of the metal spring. Why would you not zoom in super close to reveal the atomic alignment within the spring? Please take the time to reshoot the video.

Ok, I used one of these. I bought the Everbuilt kit from Home Depot. The instructions say maximum 3 turns, but after experience, and after what you describe, it’s just moving the screw no more than 180°, or three “flats” as I think you explained it. I tried to do it 3 full turns and the little stop doohickey got launched like a bullet and embedded in another part of the fence. Realllllly terrible instructions by the manufacturer. So people, this poster is right, don’t over tighten the top hex bolt. I’m gonna get a second one of these as you recommended.
