I was fortunate to be able to see Max Roach perform live several times in the early- to mid-90s. What a treat! But, I never had the opportunity to see anything like *this!* Thank You So Much For Sharing This!!!
Astounding video. Wish I was there. Where did this take place? I saw Max Roach and M'boom at SOB's in NYC. Will never forget it. Had no idea M'boom goes back this far. Total genius and this video is just astounding.
Max Roach's opus the sticking technic on these Cat's up thier is phenomenal Music teachers should tell thier students this video is a must watch it's going to be on thier final
Honestly thank you from the bottom of my heart for posting this. I've always wanted to know what these M'boom cats look like playing this shit. Incredible, a true fucking paragon. Does anyone know what kind of gong that dude is playing at about 22:14? I want one of those. The camera work at 18:17 ish is awesome by the way.
Also student drummers out thier if you're not playing traditional style after you done practicing matched grip for the day practice traditional the last 2-3 hours of the day I'm not preaching i was guilty myself
I was very fortunate to be there. The players were: Joe Chambers, Roy Brooks, Omar Clay, Max Roach, Warren Smith, Freddie Waits. It was fantastic. Can't remember why but I remember being especially impressed by Warren Smith.
Actually see my comment above again if you will. I updated it to identify all three tracks. The final section is for sure Jihad Es Mort by Joe Chambers so yes, one of the three tunes here. It's the third track on their album M'Boom Re:Percussion.

What a magnificent performance. This is on par with Chicago Art Ensemble in terms of depth and abstraction. Just incredible!
a once in a lifetime experience of master percussionist ensemble under the direction of an awesome Max Roach in his prime as a composer
music like this thought me how to love.
Man, how increbly nice to be able to witness this, thanks to you, uploader! Such mastery and creativity in this piece
Bill Bruford's birthday brought me here
This is it. The influence this must of had... . I’ve never seen anything so abstract. There must be so much more that I’ve yet to see.
I saw M'Boom at a drum clinic in NYC maybe 1974 or 75.

I think this is Joe Chambers' composition?
No, but please see my comment above for titles/ composers featured here. Joe Chambers is performing however--He rocks those tubular bells especially.
