- I bought these professional paints second-hand and decided to make some full watercolor pans with them and to test them out. All in all, I am glad I got them even though they are second-hand paints!

Professional watercolor paints can last 30 or 40 years in tubes. If the caps won’t come off, use a lighter to gently heat the stem until the cap comes off. From time to time I still use some of my dad's from the 1960s.
I'm using White Nights as well. The colours are so vibrant and easy to spread
Cadmiums love to separate like that - sometimes I pick up old stock of rare or discontinued paints and usually I will discard the first little squeeze as it’s mostly binder. They still work beautifully though so don’t worry you can still use them 😊
Thanks for sharing, that’s good to know!👍💗I did wonder if it was the cadmium, and generally would prefer not to use cadmium paints too, so that is part of why I said I probably won’t use them too. Anyways, might give them a try then!
Oh, Russian watercolor paints. It was nice to see them in an English-language video. They don't have an expiration date, so they can't go bad. This brand of paints is more than a hundred years old, and the watercolor of which is 60 years old and older, remains in working condition. But it is better to dry them after the pipe in an open form
Yep, white nights is artist or professional grade paints.... Thats why im excited to watch this video and click it right away😁.... Be careful with that, it doesnt dry same with mgraham🙂
Jillee, I'm so thankful I found you, you are a sweet soul and I admire your work. I too love painting storefronts, etc. Keep posting!
I’m so happy to have found you!! I’m a beginner artist and would love to do ink and wash like this 😍 I’ll definitely be taking your tips and tricks :) Thank you ❤
A lovely painting, warm, cheerful, optimistic and friendly somehow. Would look beautiful in the right frame.
Beautifully done. Love it. ❤.
Even with the windows up top being differ sizes I feel like the amazing detail and overall feel of this painting takes over and you can’t even focus on those windows. Love this a lot. I’m so getting some white gouache for my highlights. Thank you for all the great tips.
Great video, painting, narration, and editing. I've recently started watching your videos as I start to paint similar subjects with this new Daniel Smith pallet of watercolors I got. Your technique and tips are very helpful. Keep up the good work.
Most of my art stores have stopped stocking White Nights as they are made in Russia (they used to be branded 'St Petersburg'), and replaced them with others including a Ukranian alternative 'Rosa Gallery'. For anyone struggling with seperated paints, try using a cocktail stick in the paint tube to mix the binder back in before you squeeze it out. I had to do this with some of the Daniel Smith paints I ordered and it worked fine. Thank you for the information on Monocle Cafe and the beautiful painting. I love cafe paintings, they're so classic and calming.
Thanks for sharing, I have not heard about Rosa Gallery but would love to try them if I get the chance! On a side note, I do understand why some people are against White nights, and I only got them because I don’t like wasting good paint. Thanks for the tip about mixing inside the tube! I did hear about some Daniel Smith paints separating too, so it’s definitely something that I think many ppl struggle with. Cafe paintings are my favourite too!☺️❤️
One of my favourite paints is the Crawford and Black ones, they are exclusive to the uk as far is I know.
My friend has a few white nights paints and they are quite good, I as well do see why ppl are against them though
Rosa Gallery performs way beyond its price. I have only used their pans and I imagine the tubes are even better. Give them a try. Rosa Studio is their student grade which I havent tried.
Rosas are not the same quality as White Nights and I speak as someone who has all the Rosa colors and most of the White Nights.
@@liddlealice431 can you tell more about it? I might want to try some of them
Beautiful! You are extremely talented! Tfs your gift!❤
Your videos have inspired me a lot. Your art is amazing!
Thank u for making the tutorial, they are easy to follow and i learn a lot from u… please keep making a video like this ❤
Beautiful as always! Enjoyed it very much.
Please don't throw them out.
The heavy pigments settle naturally. Your paints are fine to use! I own tubes that are 6 years or even older. Paints don't spoil like food. You can let the first filling dry - it contracts while drying - and keep filling until your pans are full. Have fun - you made a good purchase after all!
Beautiful as always
That is beautiful!
recently came across your channel and your videos have inspired me to start painting again! love your videos!!
I love your painting styles 😍 . You make it look so easy to paint , 🎨 very inspiring hope you keep uploading. 🫶

Omgg such a beautiful piece of art work ❤️❤️❤️ thank you for another wonderful video 🎨🖌️
Thank you so much 😀
Can't wait for next one!! ❤️❤️
Amazing!! Turned out so cool, just like you said, a storybook. Thank you so much for sharing, can't wait for your next video!
thank you so much❤️❤️Glad you enjoyed it!
Really like it !!!
You have a very unique style. Very cool.
I found my dads watercolors (he passed 40 years ago) and most were great, I started my watercolor journey using his paints! I love your channel, your painting and narration are just fabulous!
Amazing artwork ❤❤
BEAUTIFULLY done!
Thank you very much ❤️
love it!
It’s so pretty 😍 👏🏻
Thanks will try...
I love your drawing style
So beautiful.
This is amazing, I've been watching your channel for a while. It really encourages me to grab a paintbrush and give it a try. It's amazing to see that out of few blobs of paint you can conjure up magic! 🌟💖
Thank you 💓
I would also stress myself over the windows, but I didn’t think it an issue until you said you weren’t happy… itlooks charming and loose. It’s a good lesson for each of us to know that we criticise ourselves but it looks lovely to others.
I like this style .😊
I did really like it ❤
I found this video when I was trying to find a watercolor painting tutorial, and I'm definitely subscribing for this wonderful tutorial. Thank you sm for this!!
Thank you for subscribing ❤️❤️
I found this tutorial very interesting. I had not seen someone do a ink and wash painting in this style. I didn’t even know you could just put a wash of the background colors and then add ink and highlights. Well done and so much faster than my process of tiny brushes wet on dry details. Thank you.
I, too, like that you do a lot of your videos with a sketch with watercolor and then the pen work. I hope that you keep doing this because you are unique in providing this particular kind of video. I am very grateful to have found you!
Your paintings are beautiful. More than Half of my wc paint has been in tubes. I use a toothpick in the tube to stir it up if needed and after poured I stir it. If wc dries in the tube I cut the tube up and put the dry paint in pans and add water. It’s so calming. I’m hoping to get more tubes soon to do more. Tfs
I love your style. I've tried gouache painting but can't wait to try watercolor painting and to draw with ink. Now, I'm on to find the best budget-and beginner-friendly fountain pen. :D
even if the paints become watery due to separation there is nothing wrong with the paint unless there is mold growing in it! You just need to give it time for the water to evaporate, since some colors have higher binder to pigment ratio than others, it is still good paint
Indeed they have now all dried nicely! The cadmium yellow did have a little weird greyish color in it before mixing, not sure if that was mold🤔
I really enjoyed your video. Thanks 😊
Your paintings are so gorgeous and creative. I am definitely gonna try this
색감과 선 일러스트의 조화가 참예뻐요~~^^
amazing 👍
Very nice ❤
Thank you for sharing your art. I'm just learning watercolours & find your tutorials easy to follow. It would be great if you could have a link to the reference photo in your videos so I can draw along too.
That really does look it's from a storybook! The windows look fine, a little bit of character in the picture doesn't hurt. 🙂
Thanks Sean! I like that description:”a little bit of character”❤️☺️
amazing painting !
Thank you 🌟❤️
I have that problem with a tube of white gouache. I haven’t much experience with paint, (I only started using paint a few weeks back, I am used to work with fineliners) and I bought it at an artstore few months ago just for highlights in my watercolor work. But actually from the beginning I couldn’t work with it that well. It looks indeed as if the components are separated and it indeed works the best if I remix it on my palet again, let it dry, and re-wet it when I need it. I thought maybe it’s my inexperience or just the particular brand, but now I see your video, I was probably better off by just bringing back the paint to the store because it isn’t right. But thanks for the tip, I think I’ll put it in a separate container and use it from there. Let’s see if I can make it work again. Love your paint style by the way. I’m obsessed lately with buildings lately and I hope I’ll be as good as you at it one day. Thanks for sharing your work, it’s truly amazing.
I've heard from my professor today that this brand is from a famous watercolour artist, I was surprised that I am watching this video and you got them, what a coincidence!
I didn't even look at the windows until you said so, this piece is so beautiful, I still don't find anything wrong with the windows, it's just, too good. I love your work!
Thank you so much!
Beautiful painting 🥰
Thank you ❤️❤️
So beautiful. Always beautiful. Thank you, you're inspire me. I made a drawing with watercolor pencil based on your video, and I got lot of compliments from my friends.
Thank you very much❤️ that sounds wonderful!

Thank you so much 💓
I love your art!!! I'm watching in Korea :)
This was so interesting and inspirational=3
LOVE THE VID
It really looks good! I would like to know what pens you using, i want to do painting aesthetic like yours!
You are sooo talented. Thank you for such a great video. I have some 30 year old paints that still work fine. If you have hard paint, just open the tube, put dry paint in the pan, and add water. Some might need a little gum arabic binder added. Many great brands will have some pigment and binder separation. You can use a long , thin tool to mix in the tube before pouring. It sounds as if you've been a graphic artist and have just started watercolor painting. I look forward to seeing more of your work.
Thanks for sharing your tips! Would love to try 30-year old paint that still works, someday😍
You probably know that it's better to fill pans 1/3 or 1/2 full and allow them to dry in between pours. White Nights are known for a high honey content and being sticky, which slows down your drying time significantly. 😢
melihat ini jadi bahan inspirasi semoga bisa melukis kayak kaka 😀
sukses terus chanelnya
salam dari Indonesia 🥰
Just subscribed, enjoyed the video
Thank you - very nice. Do you ever stretch your paper? Love your channel.
Congrats on finding good paints second hand! Thanks for sharing. My most prized possession is my M Graham set but I don’t reach for it as often because I have a ton of other sets that I’m also trying to use. So thanks for reminding me that tube paints do need attention as well, otherwise they separate. I’ve heard separation is not a problem (when painting) but I have found it is a pain when you are pouring into pans. They’re like soup that never dries. (It’s what happened to a tube of Mijello for me.) Shaking the tube before pouring helped.
Hey there, thanks for sharing your experience! It is hard to use all the paints we collect right? But it’s so hard to resist getting all the different types of paint too😂🫣
@@JilleeArts I was tempted to get an Art Philosophy palette because I like the curated colors…. but instead I decided to replicate it and mix my pure pigment Mijellos. They’re not a perfect match but close enough. ☺ I may do it again with other color combos that I like; for example, ‘vintage color palette,’ and experiment “photoshopping” when I urban sketch. What I mean is changing or exaggerating the colors I see with colors I mixed on my palette. Because there is a palette of them, I won’t have to worry about running out. Excited to try this exp. =)
What ink did you use in the Lamy fountain pen? Was it a waterproof ink? Thanks for the great videos!
What brand are the quill brushes you used in this video? I love watching you paint!
thanks
Welcome❤️
Those paitns are excellent….no problems at all…..some colors are just looser than others. USe it!
@Jillee, lovely paintings!. Please add the real pic side by side with your painting at the end of your videos. God bless you and family 👍🏻🙏🏻😍
Please do more long form videos they are so nice to have on in the background
Just subscribed ✨🌿
Mix them in a small mixing cup first........the will come back just fine. You need a wider area for mixing. I have done this many times and never had paints go south on me.
love it, new to your channel. 🥰
Thank you very much ☺️❤️
❤❤❤❤❤
What is this your pensil? And where are you buy this ? Thanks you
It's really beautiful..... बड़ी बेसब्री से इंतजार कर रही हूं
can you please guide me on how to find these beautiful reference pictures...???
MEEE !! I would love to watch an hour long video by you 😤
Aww, thanks for saying that ❤️❤️🫣😂
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Hello Jillie.. I had a question, could you tell me how to get references, like website or something....
Hey Jillee! I love your watercolour style 🥲 Care to share with us whose work inspires you towards them?
Thank you very much! There are many artists that inspire me but among them are Albert Kiefer, Alex Hilkurtz (Ig), and for digital art and color theory I like watching Marco Bucci’s videos, love his art as well❤️🌟🤗
@Jillee Arts yaayy!! Thank you SO much!! I send your vid to a friend of mine to ask what artist u might be leaning towards haha Your style reminds me a little of Ghibli but with some secret spice - absolutely LOVE it! I'll check out the artists u mentioned! You're definitely my #WatercolourArtistGoals!
Love your approach of putting in colours first and then doing your ink work. To find your reference photos, do you google "cafes around the world" or what tip could you give me? I've been around the sun way more times than you (age), so not as savvy as you on finding references.
Thank you! You can try searching for “beautiful cafes” or “beautiful storefronts”, you can also add a general location like Paris/London/Japan or anywhere you have been to that has the aesthetics you like 🤗❤️
Which pen did you use
What paints u use for painting??
Where do you find such amazing pictures to draw
Or do you draw these from your mind or what
Please reply meee
Ig and Pinterest are good for finding nice picturesque places
so nice 😍❤ new subscriber
Thanks!❤️
What saiz pen you using❤
There is nothing wrong with using painting supplies others have grown away from. I went to an estate sale of a local painter and scored great deals on books, professional paints and watercolor paper.
Ooo Lucky you! 🎨
Wt kind of sheet or SketchBook you use ..for this kind of painting ✨
This is Arches watercolor paper
I use White nights paints. Love them 😊
Your painting is amazing! 😍
I love white nights too. Their cerulean blue is so beautiful. But it never sets! And it runs out of its pan if I carry my palette somewhere.
Don't make such a big issue about the separation of the yellow. Just stir it up and it's good to go. Settling while storage and temperature while storage causes that. But usually dies not affect watercolor in tubes tgat were airtight closed. I never had any issues with that. Even when I received brand new from the store. You don't know how long stuff sits at the store before purchasing, either.
Wao...I am gonna draw this and tag you...
Sure, feel free to tag me when you’re done ☺️
8:21 "piling up paint" I'm surprised that just one year could ruin tube paints. I have a different brand and they are student grade but they have no problems so far. My method is also massaging the tube before use and also shaking them with quite some force before opening them. I keep them in an airtight plastic bag and in an airtight plastic box, to make sure they don't dry out. Tbh, I prefer paint in pans because they are so much easier to store, but I love piling up beautiful set of paint. 😂 They are just nice to own and use when I have the mood. I have a set of paint in pans which are older than 20 years and they still work just fine. They need a bit more time to rewet.
店内の雰囲気凄。
yeah nice painting except where the cut happens between 15.50 and 16.10 where obviously you have used markers to create shadows and I assume a white gel pen on the upper windows and the list goes on a little deceptive I believe......
