Sam, would love if you would do a lesson on this song. I was a huge Steve Howe fan but your approach to this song is really growing on me. You add a power and modern flair to it that would love to see broken down not only as to notes but tone/amp/etc. You've really got a great channel.
I saw this tour. June 2017. It was great. I air drummed the whole time. I bought the first album brand new when I had barely been playing drums a few months in 82. One of my favorites.
Sounds better than what has become of Yes, but the proof is in eating real pudding: as long as it remains rechewing the old songs with some added "modern flair" here and there, the risk taking was fairly limited. Except if a singer with a complete different voice would have been added. But as long as no new album is released, it is difficult to have a real judgement. And the question is whether this Asia or John Payne's Asia will ever release a new album. So... Having said that, John Wetton vocals were A class, and I didn't expect Asia to find a match. Especially since the Yes pond seems to have such an attraction on that band. So the best what was possible was a B+. It is difficult to judge this performance with the so so sound quality, but it might be Sherwood is just that. Not A-stuff, but the best available.
Saw this lineup open for Journey that year. It was obvious they were just going through the motions. However, Journey screwed them over by cutting about 1/2 of the power to the subs. (That happens with lots of opening band, but, Journey is horrible about it.)
Beautiful classic songs and great experience but you look about 40 years too young for this band Sam. You are a frigging amazing guitar player Sam, you need a band that suits you for your ability. Still sounds great though, must be such a buzz.
Okay I'm a huge Asia fan, click on my channel and look at the banner on my channel, but this really sounded weak. Carl's drumming was very spotty and Billy just doesn't quite seem to fit as a lead singer with Asia. I'm a huge Asia fan of bot the Wetton and Payne era.
Oh come on, don't be such a prick. Payne was different as Wetton for sure, but he definetely didn't do a bad job. Maybe adding here and there just a little bit too much drama, but nothing terrible on the Asia albums he contributed to. Love them all, even if Wetton remains the man.
These guys just love touring, and there is no such a thing as a retirement plan for artists. There's no government to take care of their daily little expenses. Is it good ? Can't really judge with this sound quality. The folks there seem to enjoy it. Better a so so Wetton replacement than no Asia at all. If these guys were only thinking money, I'm sure there are more lucrative career switches possible. Asia hasn't been exactly a big seller since their first albums. Many of their more recent songs on their own channel don't even get 100 thumbs up. The big money would rather be in Toto for ex. or Genesis.
That's his style, has always been, didn't change since the 1970's. It's not my favorite style either, it's sounds like militairy drumming. But changing it would ruin the song even more than with a new singer. And anyway, the Yes drummer wasn't available.
@@RetroscoopThis was in the summer of 2017. Alan White had just had back surgery. I don’t think having him tour with both Yes and Asia would’ve been a good idea, given that he could barely get thru the Yes tour on his own. Besides, Carl Palmer is THE ONE when it comes to Asia, though I do like what Mike Sturgis and Chris Slade contributed…
Nice warbling at the end, Sam! 🥰

Lovely vid, that one!
Sherwood did a good job, Sam was golden ... miss JW!
Nice to see you Sam playing with ASIA!!!
Awesome! I very much hope you guys tour again and I hope you hit South FL! Bravo!
Billy Sherwood did a pretty good job.
I was just thinking that. He did a decent job.
Saw them on this tour. Billy did very good. No John Wetton, but who is? Considering he was a last-minute fill-in I was impressed.
I'm more impressed with the background vocals. They nailed it, even without microphones.
Wow oh wow!
I liked this vídeo very very much!!!
Epic!
LOVE that super Strat! 😍🤩😍
Edit: Ohhh great! ..a close up of the drummer during the guitar solo! 😐
That was great.
wow, sounds good after all these years.

All the negative comments. Huh. I saw this show and they were very good. Billy did a great job.
Awesome
Sounds fantastic, looks like the crowd thinks so too.
GO CARL GO!
if by "go" you mean KEEP SPEEDING UP then yeah, nice work Carl.
Miss John Wetton.... Billy Sherwood is good "standby"
😍
Sam lowered the average age of this band by 38 years.
hahaha
Us Tour 2017 I think😘 Ciao
Giovanni Sergio oops!!
sam is a bad ass I like that guitar also.

Too bad we never got a proper recording of the lives of Asia where Sam was on. I'd have bought that.
Edit: oh wait, they're the 2013 live ?

The 2022 remake, sadly Sam is not on this song!

There is no Asia without john wetton.....he is not replaced
Wetton was the best. Billy does A good job. Wetton hand picked Sherwood to carry on the Asia name and he is doing goof.
be gone fake fan!
John Wetton is irreplaceable for sure..
Need Slade back on the kit
Huh? When was Slade in Asia?
Anybody is better than John Payne, would love the old Journey singer in the band Steve Perry.
Oh come on, don't be such a prick. Payne was different as Wetton for sure, but he definetely didn't do a bad job. Maybe adding here and there just a little bit too much drama, but nothing terrible on the Asia albums he contributed to. Love them all, even if Wetton remains the man.
Trust me, Steve Perry will join Asia.
i guess if money is that important to ya

Первый раз вижу чтобы Карла Палмера , основного участника ELP/Asia называли ужасным барабанщиком. 😂
