Love the layout and the scene by scene approach to modeling. I also think the channel will keep on your toes to keep working the layout. I know my channel keeps me focused on working on it.
Frankly, you might be able to. Learned everything I know about backdrop painting right here: ua-cam.com/video/wgInYtjXWvk/v-deo.html. As simple a method as there is. The roundhouse is Atlas, but with modified geometry to work with the Walthers turntable. I also replaced the kit stall doors and clerestory windows with custom 3D printed parts. Thanks for watching.
Really cool video!! Very nice use of space and I enjoyed seeing the under construction photos. The painted backdrop is beautiful and I love how it integrates in with actual scenery on the layout (the rows of trees). Congrats on an awesome layout.
Great work so far! Thanks for the tour, it’s wonderful to see a layout that loosely resembles my home area. If you haven’t already, I think you should work towards becoming an MMR. You certainly possess the skills required. Can you make a video on your town of Comptche? I’d love to see your design process for laying out a town with relation to structure placement. Cheers
Thanks. Before I was making videos, I wrote this post on creating Comptche... m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=pfbid02tk7oN1YqEQCpkMKon8FWcBaWweUxPSybXDe5bBhWNCqVJW3jeSkXEiWchp4H3vdJl&id=100808324800675&mibextid=Nif5oz
FYI, I did join the NMRA this week. I've never been a member. Now I'll look into the MMR. I never really wanted to be "one of those guys". But I think you're right, I have the skill set so I guess I should go for it. Thanks for lighting that fire under my butt.
Scott, What I have found working my way through the achievement program is that it made me a better modeler. I now have two mantras 1. There’s always room for improvement 2. Good enough, isn’t You seem to already have these down, so you’ll do just fine👍🏻 Keep these great videos coming!
Very nice effort. I especially like the way you detailed the turntable pit, the dirt and weeds are what you might expect to see in a less than major facility. I think I might use that idea, if you don't mind that is! Cheers from West Oz.
Thanks! Even though I don't model a prototype all of my modeling is based on photographs of real world stuff - including the dirt and grass in the pit. Have at it friend!
You have built a beautiful layout Scott. It looks like that wall between the railroad room and the other area of the basement isn’t necessarily permanent. If you work really fast, it looks like you could pick up another 4 feet without anyone noticing. Then just hang a mirror on it to have that other room feel bigger, lol. I’m really enjoying your videos and tutorials. Thanks for sharing your layout and your techniques. I think a tree making and backdrop tree painting might be something to think about.
Hi Scott. Thanks for sharing. What a lovely layout. Do you have any tips for cleaning your scenery. I hate trying to clean my layout as I always end up damaging scenery.
You have an awesome layout. I really like in Copchi how you did the vineyard scene on the backdrop and then brought it into actual scenery on the layout. Really impressive work on the entire layout. 👍
Beautiful railroad! I’m modeling in the same era, though I’m progressing much slower. I have to ask, how did you get your modern 4-4-0 to run so well? When I tried programming mine in JMRI, it still won’t start running until my throttle (NCE power cab) indicates 9 or 10.
Mmmmm... to be honest, there were a lot of outtakes making this video! But I use esu decoders and they have a sensing feature that allows them to automatically set up optimum performance. It seems to work pretty well.

Me too! Thanks.
I just love your layout. I watch this video numerous times. You are extremely artistic.
Thank you, friend!
Thank you Scott, I enjoy your fine Railroad. Like your Pine Trees too. Bob
Thanks. They're nice, but time consuming.
A beautiful layout. I enjoyed watching this. Thanks for sharing.
My pleasure. Glad you enjoyed it!
Really like this layout. Tremendous job. Especially like the backdrops.
Glad you're enjoying it! I need to do some temporary photo backdrops soon. Planning to make a video.
Love the layout and the scene by scene approach to modeling. I also think the channel will keep on your toes to keep working the layout. I know my channel keeps me focused on working on it.
Thanks. I haven't worked on it in about 4 months. As odd as it sounds, every fall I have to kickstart myself back into the hobby!
Beautiful layout. Thanks for showing it to us. I hope that we get updates as you continue to build.
Thanks! And that's the plan...
I must say, you have a great railroad there! Love those backdrops! Wish I could paint like that. Also love the roundhouse. Thanks for sharing!

Great tour of a great layout!
That means a lot coming from two railfans such as yourselves!
Subbed. Thanks for sharing your beautiful railroad.
Cmon back!

Dude I love your layout man! Well thought out. I'm building a Protolance too. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks. Hope you enjoy creating your layout as much as I do mine!

Looks really cool.
Absolutely beautiful layout sir I just subbed look forward to more videos from you
Thanks, friend!
Perfekt 😊
Thanx!
New Sub: Very nice layout and awesome to see how you came up with your name/story of your model railroad. I'm looking forward to seeing more. - Jason
Thanks! I wondered if the history part would be too boring for youtube!

You'd have to negotiate that with the Mrs. That's her sewing room. Hope to cover all that in the future. .
Hi Scott. Thanks for sharing. What a lovely layout. Do you have any tips for cleaning your scenery. I hate trying to clean my layout as I always end up damaging scenery.
Thank you. Makeup brushes are what I use to clean with. Unfortunately, cleaning is always risky.
PS - I'm flattered that you think it looks like I clean my layout! :)
