I misspoke. Craven actually worked with Sean S Cunningham on Last House on the Left...not this film.

      I completely agree.
This is probably the best example of a movie that actually needed a remake. Not something like Nightmare on elm street which Wes Craven got right the first time and was only remade to make some money off of the title.

That remake was NOT better than the original lol. It was way more over the top and had more gore but that doesn’t make something a better movie; it never has and it never will. The cast who played the cannibal family were nowhere near as creepy as they were in the OG version. They were more nasty and cruder (maybe) but there was nothing unique about them! There was something about those OG actors and what they brought to their characters! The remake wasn’t bad by any means but it was just like any other “good remake” (more gore and way more over the top).

The Hills Have Eyes remake is literally one of my favorite horror films of all time. One of my favorite movies of all time. Such a great movie and since I watched it as a kid, it’s definitely the scariest movie I’ve ever seen.

Also FYI seeing the movie at a younger age definitely helped in me claiming this is the scariest movie I’ve ever seen, but also I went into this at like 11-12 years old not knowing what to expect. I knew nothing about The Hills Have Eyes and had no idea what I was getting myself into. I watched the movie with my older brother and when the scene where the mutant is on this rock chewing on a dogs leg, and then laughs a maniacal laugh, I swear I looked right over at my brother with the most terrified look on my face.
All in all this remake is just one HELL of a movie and I Fucking love it. Can’t wait for you to review it.

The remake is damn near as perfect as you're gonna get for a horror movie. The original was fantastic for the time it was made and the budget it was made with. The remake didn't really change too much, storywise. Even most of the characters had similar personalities even though they were played by different actors. Altogether, it seems like they just wanted to graduate the original to the level it coulda been had the finances and technology been available.

This is easily one of the most original horror movies made. The family aspect and the fact that they were piled up in a station wagon! I think anyone over 45 can remember piling up in a station wagon and going on family vacation. REmember the mini van didn't exist yet. LOL

This original film I did like. The remake was your typical remake but this original was a pleasure on my first viewing. The creative take on it was appreciated greatly by me. I just love desert horror, apocalyptic horror, western horror, ect. This fits right in with something like Near Dark, From Dusk till Dawn, or John Carpenters Vampires, and I love that. Great video Cody. Love these director series your doing.✌

sir, you are an amazing movie reviewer. The visceral emotion that was caused by the extremely graphic violence and sexl scenes in Last House on the Left had me covered my eyes and looking away from the TV. In contrast, The Hill's have Eyes is one of my favorite Wes Craven movies. Everything you said is on point with the attachment you form to the family and it was so well cast & acted. Yeah, I'll agree, though this movie is good, it wasn't until Elm Street where Wes really perfected his craft. And yeah, you can see between this and Last House that Wes was improving still, not quite there yet, but is getting better. And still several I'm looking forward to while you're doing this, Deadly Friend and Shocker just to name a few I loved growing up. As far as the question at the end, I think I saw this first before the remake, although I was only 9 years old when the remake came out, so can't 100% remember for sure if it was before or after.

@Cody Leach I was laughing when you said I like how there’s more to chew on when it comes to this film compared to last house on the left.
I don’t think you were intending it to come off as a pun necessarily to anybody but, it kind of did to me as you happened to be talking about a movie about a family stranded in the dessert and being preyed upon by a family of Cannibals.
I will say I have never seen the original and I may go back and watch it one day but, I have seen the 2006 remake which was actually directed by Alexandre’ Aja who did one of my favorite horror films of I believe it was 2019 the year it came out called Crawl the one about the hurricane in Florida with the alligators.
I saw hills have eyes after Crawl but, I loved his remake of Wes Craven’s film possibly even more than Crawl, even though Crawl for myself personally is a more easily rewatched film than Hills Have Eyes his remake from 2006 is.
A lot of that has to do with the brutality of that remake, I’m not squeamish when it comes to gore as I love it from time to time but, this films remake from Alexandre’ Aja was just too realistic with the blood and gore as it felt like something that could actually happen as opposed to something that felt supernatural etc.
One thing I will say is if you can’t remember much about the hills have eyes remake there’s a badass moment with the dad and his German Shepherd Dog when he goes to save the baby after it’s been kidnapped by the cannibals that is so badass and proves why German Shepard’s have been and always will be my favorite breed of dog.
