Very helpful , I resurrected a windshield from m an older Yamaha Royal Star I bought . It was all clouded over , wasn't usable . Now it is super clear , back on the bike . I however did not use paper towels , I used micro fiber towels . Thanks Anatolli
Thanks! I replaced mine thinking it was not recoverable, after watching your video I'm going to polish up the old one and keep it, just in case. Thanks again!
I don't mean to be overly critical, but I want to offer a few suggestions based on personal experience riding my own bike as well as a former motor cop. 1. Start off cleaning the windshield with a clean microfiber towel, soaked in warm-to-hot water. It loosens bugs and other debris and lessens the chance of scratching when wiping the windshield. 2. Use an ammonia free glass cleaner. If not, over a very short period of time the glass cleaner will corrode the protective film on your plexiglass windshield. On our police bikes, it would start with a yellowish appearance and eventually leave small lines as if the film coating was actually cracking. 3. Paper towels are harsh on the motorcycle windshields. Personal preference is to use the microfiber towels or other soft towel. Bottom line = whatever works for you. Thanks for sharing your video.
Thank you for commenting but that windshield was yellow and in pretty bad shape so protective coating was damaged I just had to polish it off but I do agree that I should use a microfiber towel at leas on a finishing stage.
Definitely don't use paper-towels on the windscreen. Paper towels are very abrasive and will make small scratches in acrylic or an soft plastic. I like to use Scott's shop towels to clean things like windscreens because they are much softer and have an almost felt-like feel to them.
Excellent video. Thank you for taking the time to make it. So many video's are scripted or redone to make it look perfect. You had an idea, tried it, videoed it and put it out there. Exactly what I was searching for. Thanks again.
Never use a paper towel on acrylic only use a wool buffing pad or microfiber towel. Never use an Ammonia or Alcohol based product as these will destroy the acrylic surface. Only use products that are specifically designed for plastic compounds. Always soak in warm water and soap to remove the grit and bugs first.
I’ve noticed that a lot of people use Invisible Glass for a cleaner. I’ve found that using boiling hot water and vinegar (2/3 water to 1/3 vinegar in a spray bottle) works way better than Invisible Glass. Truth be told, I find Invisible Glass to be sort of meh. It’s really not all that great. Anyhoo, that’s just my two cents.
Wrong! Wrong! Wrong! Never use any kind of glass cleaner on plexiglass. Use water with dish soap in it. Soak the plastic in dish soap and then scrub with a soft pad. Rinse and let dry.
Paper towels are fibrous and scratch plastic. You need to stick with soft cloth for wiping. However, better results than I expected to see in the end. Bottom line, it was a good improvement compared to what you had. Just hate to see you working against yourself using paper towels. Otherwise, good job.
I think I would have started with hot soapy water in the laundry tub or, hot soapy water in a bucket out in the driveway with a hose rather than spraying the dirt in place, and making it scratch the windshield further by grinding it into the plastic with that clean towel. I just would have use that clean towel to dry the freshly washed windshield Paper towels are never never never to be used on eyeglasses or plastic windshields never. They scratch when this windshield is done, the proof will be, driving down the street at night and watching how approaching headlights have thousands of scratch mark rings around them as they shine through the plastic.. I know this windshield when it’s done,it is going to have halos around every light that tries to shine through this windshield, just from wiping it with paper towels
You should NEVER use glass cleaner on a motorcycle windshield. In fact, if you have the owner's manual for the motorcycle, you will see a warning in it to NEVER use glass cleaner on your windshield. You should have mentioned that so viewers wouldn't use a standard glass cleaner. I'm not sure what's in the cleaner you are using but you didn't mention what's in it so I suspect you aren't aware that glass cleaners can damage Plexiglass and Lexan. Clean the windshield with water and regular dishwashing soap or something similar. By the way, that Harbor Freight DA polisher that you're using is actually better than most of the big name "professional" polishers. HF does have some good products and that's one of them. But replace that yellow disk. It's notorious for wobbling because the shaft is almost never perpendicular to the disk.

Too add, the glass cleaner he used is ammonia free. Best in the market

god you're boring
Great Job! I like how that windshield came out. With a few minor tweaks, I'm going to clean my windshield on my V-star 1300!

It was helpful.
I got some cleaning to do on my windshield. Thanks for the video.
Nice
Thanks, very informative vid!!! Now I'll try my hand at my bike's windshield : )
Put a marker line on your yellow backing plate, it should spin all the time, good job.
I saw a video where the guy sanded the window out. Would yall recommend doing that and using polish to fill in the scratches?
looks pretty good .....................job well done !
Micro fiber cloth and dish soap first. No alcohol or ammonia cleaner. Rubbing compound, then dish soap, rinse, then rain-ex
Thanks, mine is not as damaged as yours was. So, if it worked that good for yours, should do great on mine. Thanks again.
so just use the plastix ?
got it

What are the pads called that you used on your polisher? I need to buy those pads and I don’t know which ones to get. Thank you
did you find out what pad? I'm also wondering the same question but I see he didn't reply...

paper towels scratch acrylic and lexan.. use cotton or microfiber.
Thank you ! :)
Nice job
Got to be happy with that!
Thank you!

Are you suggesting this being done to remove scratches from plexiglass?

wowww nice job,,,,

Anatolli thanks for the video. For a more in-depth process watch UA-cam Sweetscoots. He does a more permanent fix along with ceramic coat
Why you use paper towel? Its so abrasive
Rendy Sormin I need to cut the surface layer to get to a good clear acrylic so a little bit of help from paper towels is a plus
Didn't appear to spin 90% of this video.
