I picked up the same 2 game pcbs, but when I assemble them I put the dip switches on the back. I use them with an 800XL and the chips face backwards when the pcb is plugged in (it’s the same on an 800 as far as I know) so I can access the dip switches more easily when mounted on the back as they face towards me.
Nice info for the ones who are not experienced in burning EPROMs. Your TV might have an option to turn the onscreen display off in its settings menu, you may have the chance of getting rid of that lingering info display every time you power cycle the computer. One question; 27Cxxx EPROMs and 28Cxxx EEPROMS are very annoyingly not 100% pin compatible, pin #1 and pin #27 are switched. Is the last board you used for te diagnostic ROM made specifically for 28C256? And lastly, there is an oddball EEPROM that I love to use, it is the 27C257 (not 256) from Winbond (like the 27C512 that you have) It is an EEPROM and totally pin compatible with the regular 27C256 EPROMs. It is always a better choice to use those in the boards that were made for 27C256 EPROMs.
Hi, Bora. That info display isn't coming from the TV/monitor, but from a SCART to HDMI converter sitting between the RetroTINK and the capture card on my PC. It doesn't have a menu system I can go into to change options. As for the 27cXXX vs 28cXXX, I didn't actually think that through all the way. The board has pin 27 grounded (it's an 8K ROM image stored 4 times in the EEPROM's 32K, so it grounds A13 and A14 because they're irrelevant). That leaves Write Enable on pin 27 of the 28C256, which is active low, enabled all the time. I need to either use a 27CXXX or cut a trace and tie pin 27 to +5v to disable WE. Thanks for the heads-up.
how about an sd card adapter cartridge. files instead of actual roms of course. small ic to convert from sd to catridge, maybe small fpga. programmable of course lmao. sd cards are more universally accessible and readable/writable. more than roms. why do you worry about abandonware or people rulers? you agree on the EULA and TOS, to them, you choice. God is much better, the best, perfect freedom and gift of God, which does not need any "good doing" by payment, in vain. well yep with God you can do everything. own games, why would you play other people's games. for quality of time? be certain if you want to call people a quality time. may God be with you and the people, nations. says the Lord. well the coof was to limit people wanting and having authoritarian rulership, the EULA and TOS of kings and selected rulers.
SD card solutions do exist, such as TBA's Ultimate-A8 Cartridge, but I wanted something I could build myself. The Ultimate-A8, for instance, is available fully assembled for $95 USD. As for the rest, I wasn't expecting a discussion on religion or the rule of law.
I should probably mention that I do own copies of all these games. Don't want to be promoting piracy, now. 😛
