- Uluwatu Temple in the south of Bali is home to a hoard of mischievous monkeys. During our visit here, a fat monkey stole my girlfriend's hat!

I guess when you see his teeth at 0:44 you start to do the math on what the hat did cost you compared to possible physical damage. I mean if that thing bites you in your lower leg and pulls your muscle might be half gone and and you have a chance to get rabies. If you're really unlucky he gets the vein and you start to bleed out... and all that for a 5$ hat?

The monkeys at the Sacred Monkey Forest in Ubud and also the Sangeh Monkey Forest are not aggressive like this. They’re well fed and well taken care of by the local staff and therefore do not need to steal things from tourists in order to barter for food.
The monkeys at Uluwatu Temple, on the other hand, you should never ever mess with as they are completely wild and are not taken care of. They are known to snatch things from just about anyone in exchange for food.

Monkey Abroad It helps as well to never look at them in the eyes. You’ll see this written on all notice boards at the Sacred Monkey Forest in Ubud. But yeah, the monkeys at the Uluwatu Temple are still a lost cause.
Please next time if you have this experience at Uluwatu temple, report it directly to the workers with the green Balinese clothes. They'll help you quickly and give your girlfriend's hat back. The monkeys are afraid with the workers (with those green Balinese clothes).
