Tha Alkaholiks on Signing with Loud Records, "21 and Over" Blowing Up
Вставка
- Опубліковано 6 тра 2017
- Tha Alkaholiks rose to prominence during a time when NWA dominated the west coast--but the trio never let that compromise their sound. Here, Tha Alkaholiks talk about the beginning of their relationship with LOUD Records and Steve Rifkind, how they managed to create a lane for themselves in a crowded LA scene, and how they believe E-Swift is a slept-on producer. Watch above.

Eswift was so underrated as a producer.

People forget about Tha Alkaholiks, The Pharcyde, Souls of Mischief, Hieroglyphics, The Nonce, Freestyle Fellowship, Cypress Hill, Funkdoobiest, and endless acts out of California. It wasn't just Dr. Dre, Snoop, Too $hort, and G-Funk.
HipHopR&BLover Jon Ras Kass, Lootpack, The Bums, Blackalicious & Soulsides Crew, Xzibit, Hobo Junction, Living Legends, Erule, PUTS, Planet Asia & Rasco, Zion I, Dilated Peoples, Self Scientific...
Michael People Under the Stairs!
HipHopR&BLover Jon yes funkdoobiest
HipHopR&BLover Jon souls of mischief are a discount pharcyde
HipHopR&BLover Jon triple thumbs up for shouting out The Nonce! Damn! Project Blowed days in LA
This was the hardest West coast Underground squad in the 90's
Bullshit. Souls of Mischief and the Hieroglyphics crew was the hardest.
Bullshit. Souls fell off hard after 93 till infinity. Better quality was the Liks. The Liks had King Tee doing his thing as well as seen Xzibit go mainstream. Souls was not better than The Liks. Maybe overall better emcees but not a better group.
I don't drink but these people made me sing to their tunes. Love tha liks! Greetings from Germany
The Liks were way harder than the Souls and glifix
from 94' to 2003' loud records was killing shit. they had mobb deep, xzibit, big pun, three six mafia, raekwon, wu tang clan, and krayzie bone as a solo artist
PSTRILLA TRUE
PSTRILLA loud was very underrated
dead prez they had pete rock for an album too
M O.P.
Legends. Finally some good shit
21 & over had some insane beats
Artur Vasiljev right? First time I heard Madlib. And got me listening to east coast cats with Diamond D
I remember Madlib saying he became an alcoholic after touring with them! Lmao 😂
DOPE....... When everyone is listening to East Coast Hip Hop in my neighborhood I was heavy with that King Tee and the Alkaholiks. Dope word play, concept and their style of flow was just Mad Dope to me over here in the East...... Salute!!!!
"Tha 'Liks got the beats that will make you say DAMN!" Diggin' this interview completely, feels good to see our legends in Hip-Hop get that shine they deserve!💯
I met these cats at the video shoot Damn!!! downtown LA ice t was there they had pizza for us lol I miss being young an 90's hip hop😳
Find a movie called mid90s..it's a skatemovie..but also a lot of 90s shit...movie overall 6 of 10 tho..
Vlad needs more interviews like this.. Not all west coast music is G-funk..
It goes 1 for the chronic 2 for the amnesia, it's the pimp-slap niggy with drinks in the freezer/ Bust the 1 out, 2 out FLIPS!! typa rapper that'll get you outcha seat quicker than a carjacker 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
I'd first heard "Make Room" in '93 on KJLH, and was quickly hooked. 26 years later, this is still one of my favorite groups.
“Drink so much captain morgans all I need is the parrot” 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
do an alcoholic challenge to test ya balance
I bumped the shit out of 21 & Over back in the '90s rollin' in my '68 Volkswagen Bug lol
"Time to roll my sleeves up, f@*k a few MC's up, another rough cut from the crew that won't ease up". Maaan, Tha Liks gave me that breath of fresh air that I needed during the 90's. "More Liks, Liks, Liks".
LOOTPACK ALL DAY!!!! REAL WEST COAST HIP HOP!!!
E Swift, underrated, Havoc, underrated, Muggs, underrated, Traxter, underrated, beats by the pound, Three Six Mafia, David Banner, Alchemist, Unknown, Slip Premire, MJG, more ppl out here than jus dre, timbo, storch & mannie fresh
u never heard or the legendary traxter, chicagos own producer or 90% of twistas & 50% of do or die music? if u were born in the 90s, only kno whats on the radio, or only listen to music based on money, popularity or videosim not gonna waste my time explaining this to u, please do ur research
You can't mention Chicago producers and not put no i.d in the list. Plus the whole mole men crew is the illest group of producers period!
tru to heart
Tha L-I-K-S what makes the liks so damn fresh, one of my favorite Westcoast groups period. They were so underrated as a group it's a shame.
And people didn't understand, this is where Xzibit got his start, he's part of the liquid crew,.
Damn its good to see these dudes. I was a lil kid when they were out.
I wish Swift would talk about how he recorded with Smif N Wessun, how it came about. They always had great chemistry in the studio.
Respect, to the fullest, D Raz,
One of the most slept on groups of the 90's
likwidation is super dope album as well
" I'll fold ya clothes with ya body still in em" peace to the Likwit Crew
Vlad you should keep focusing on Loud Records. Its super interesting and so many greats were on Loud.

I was a college DJ (WMSR at Miami University) in '93 when we got a free copy of 21 & Over. Tha Liks became one of my favorite groups of all time.
We was so happy when they came to NYC always Jerz showed mad luv
One of the most underrated west coast groups
I remember chilling with my boy Stylistic and these dudes flowing for hours. They are really this cool though.
They are bringing up some old names. Harry-O is a name I don't hear many cats bring up now. Everyone knows Freeway Rick and Suge. No one talks Harry O.
Harry O is death row
Babythatsflucci yup sneaky ass david kenner and suge
@WaVy Crockett #JizzBoss Crazy how Harry O is getting out soon while Suge is locked up. That's karma for you.
Tha liks represent 100% authenticity.

Tash not fucking with the rest of them for some reason that's the vibe I got especially at 9:12 when he brushed his shoulder off after that embrace
