I have a couple of Wested Jackets already and they are awesome. I purchased a Raiders as well as Last Crusade jacket from them not too long ago. I wear them all the time. Lol
You know what Sir! My Steele & Jones Indy jacket can be a bomber jacket if it wants to. It currently lives in a desert and just doesn't want to at the moment. LOL. Well done Sir. Needed to be done.
Might be interesting to mention that the WWII era U.S. Navy jackets (e.g. the m422a) used side panels allowing an individual to have a wider range of motion. These were made concurrently with A2 jackets.
Speaking as an Air Force pilot who has several issued leather pilot jackets in my closet, you would never route your shoulder harness through the epaulets. Earlier in the service, the epaulets were used for rank. Now they are just for style as the rank is below your name on the leather name patch.
The avirex jackets are pretty legendary, the style g2 aka raider style was started by them in 79’ and made super popular by Macgyver and also worn in field of dreams, then scored became cockpit USA.
Do you have any experience with John Ownbey branded A-2 jackets? Supposedly the company has been producing jackets since 1955 responding to ww2 gov't demand. What's the quality like side by side next to something like Cooper?
Hey Nathan great video. The background info on the jackets was extremely interesting 👍. Since you seem to own more than one US Wings jacket I need your advice. I'm considering purchasing their Indy jacket in the striated lambskin with the heafty price tag of over 700 bucks. I'm stuck right in the middle of the size medium and size large measurement wize. I'm about a 40-41 chest and the medium is 38-40, the large is 42-44. I don't know which size to order I just know I don't want to be swimming in it. Any advice? Thanks.
The Large might be a good option. I'm slightly of the mind that one size bigger couldn't hurt. I own a 3x us wings Indy jacket in cow and while it's a hair snug, the fit is still very comfortable. Consult with US Wings customer service too, as I know that my US Wings jackets are a tad older stock so the sizes might have changed over the years. What ever you chose I hope the jacket fits like a glove!

I love the A-2. It's always been my favorite.
It's an excellent jacket, no doubt. Its design has stood the test of time and become the pattern for many modern flight jackets.

Indeed so. I was just using the colloquial term of bomber jacket so that most viewers understood what I was talking about.
The were never called bomber jackets. They were A2 flight jackets. The heavy sheep skin B3 was a bomber jacket.
