Jerry is rated one of the best acoustic Bluegrass musicians in the world, and he supports her vocals as well... And Alison has no comparison; she puts her own signature on every song she sings. The voice of an angel. Together they perform like a finely tuned instrument.

"Carolina in My Mind" will always be one of James Taylor's signature songs, but this cover by Alison Krauss' is a beautiful tribute to the original. Of course, Krauss could sing twenty pages randomly selected from the phone book and it would sound beautiful. Truly one of the best and most original voices country music has ever produced.
@@YHWHthegreatIAM even the Star Spangled Banner was originally called Mar Mangled Hammer and was written by an old black dude from somewhere in the Gulf coast
+Sean Rumney If you do a search on Douglas, the instrument he plays is called a resonator guitar, but I call him a dobro player, too, because he plays it flat. When you watch others play resonator guitars -- really good players like Colin Lindley and Bruce Cockburn -- they hold the resonator just like any other guitar.
+Jeff Samin I´ll add to this. Jerry also plays a flat neck, wish is made for laying on the lap, not rounded like a normal guitar neck. And the string height on that ting is ridiculous. Probably awesome for clean slide playing, but I like to be able to fret the stings once in a while :p
How is it possible even one person gives this a thumbs down, let alone 82? I'm a fan of all styles, even metal and punk, but this is about as close to musical perfection as I've heard. If you don't like this, you have no business even listening to music.
Ray ismyname I am partial to great female vocalists of all different genres. In my mind, Allison Krauss is the gold standard, it's just perfection to hear her sing.

Anything...anything she sings is absolutely songbird. She and Jerry Douglas take James Taylor's song to the next level. Thank you to all three. Music at it's finest.
Truly a gift from God. This made me weep it was so beautiful. Heaven must have this playing on loud speaker. James Taylor helped me go through the weary days after the sudden accidental death of my 13yr old son Sam. He was 13yrs old, 2003. He went to see if his X-box magazine arrived in the mail and was hit by an out of control car that tried to take a 90degree turn at 70mph. He will be 31 the 26th of this month. I miss you baby. Love, Mom❤💋 I can't believe it's been 17yrs. Thank you so much for posting this for it is yet another restless night for me. ❤
My mom introduced me to Alison Krauss, Carole King, Emmylou Harris, Linda Ronstadt, and all the greatest songstresses of our time. Can't say thanks enough, Mom. I'm forever grateful.
I, a true Carolina Tar Heel boy, was languishing away in Tehran before the revolution, miserable in the summer dust, heat, and oppressiveness, plus a serious homesickness coming on - Fourth of July is not the same there. I was listening to USA radio letting homesickness overtake me, then the JT version of this bittersweet melancholy yearning for refuge of a song came on. I just dissolved into weeping of the sweetest longing, which comes back vividly every time I hear it. I still think of my vision of the great green oaks, and expansive lawns on North Campus that contrasted so much to the heat and traffic and noise and dust of Tehran, a virtual image of heaven. As much as JT means to me, Alison sings with more longing and soul - the things I treasure about this song. And listen to Jerry's magnificent lines that perfectly complement this angel voice! Seems I have something in the eye.
Carl Holden - Amen. They touch the heart, feed the soul, please the ear and make the body glad to be alive and moving along with them while feeling the sunshine and moonshine and longing for whatever means home to us each.
Allison, yeah... she has more Grammys than any other living artist. Angelic, yes... and she can burn that fiddle all day long, plus every other instrument typical to Bluegrass... she's the whole package, hands down. I never miss her show when she comes through music city where I live, about yearly - she loves it here. Pawned a gun to get a ticket last time. And no, I don't mean "Nashville" or Memphis or Austin... we don't even have a skyline, lol. peace, y'all

This is the most beautiful performance of this song that I have ever heard. Douglas' playing is the best dobro playing in the business. His ability to accompany on this instrument is unparalled. And damn if his harmony singing isn't just heavenly. But above all, is Alison's singing. It is simply perfect in every way and just gorgeous. And what a great performance the whole group makes. Taylor' heart must have just been melting.
The purity of harmony between Allison Krauss and Jerry Douglass is truly magical. It's rare to have such finely integrated harmony among two people who aren't siblings. Their voices were literally made to be together...

Those who dislike this song are entitled to their opinions, BUT what a terrible waste, what they are missing out on my being narrow minded and not able to appreciate true talent. Allison Krauss has without question one of the 2 most beautiful voices I have ever heard. My wife & I have seen her many times in concert, Outstanding, simply Outstanding! The other voice was taken from us many years ago, but I was lucky enough to have seen her in concert at the Greek Theater in Griffith Park out in Los Angeles. Her name was Karen Carpenter and she was Angelic! May she rest in peace.
Hard not to love her, not only is she just an amazing singer/musician, but what a great role model, has never embarrassed herself and has never had bad media pub like so many other’s have. Nothing but respect for her 🌷
One day this LADY will be and SHOULD be HONORED at Kennedy Center, I love this LADY, HELL she been asked to perform there so many times she have her own parking spot up front.
I traveled around the world the first 40 years of my life...this song always grabbed me and made me remember where I came from. At times when I was homesick and feeling alone it lifted my spirits and gave me something to live for.
Nothing but respect for her 🌷
Never saw her even take a breath, marvelous rendition.
Allisons voice is like a soft velvety pillow......
No ..would’t want to sleep on a soft velvety pillow . 😎
Voice of an Angel. We are blessed to hear her.
Beautiful,...just beautiful. I don't know what more to day.
That's as close to perfection as it gets!
True beauty in that voice.
Just beautiful. Love her voice ❤
Alison Krauss could charm the birds from the trees
Lance Farre
With her voice, Alison could sing a pack of wild dogs off of a meat wagon.
One day this LADY will be and SHOULD be HONORED at Kennedy Center, I love this LADY, HELL she been asked to perform there so many times she have her own parking spot up front.
the most beautiful singer going... she breathes through her heart.
Two super talents, arguably the best that country music has to offer on stage together
What a lovely rendition. Ms. Krauss is angelic.
I traveled around the world the first 40 years of my life...this song always grabbed me and made me remember where I came from. At times when I was homesick and feeling alone it lifted my spirits and gave me something to live for. I've been back in Carolina almost 30 years and every time I hear this song it gives me goose bumps.
Stunning...and I'm old enough to remember when this first came out
Me 2. Nothing criticizing James Taylor. Her version is all Alison ....
@Alison Krauss Sure. BTY, I come from Natalie McMaster's old stomping ground.
