- Heat your garage! Heat Storm 6000 Install Join me as I unbox and install the Heat Storm HS-6000-GC wifi heater to heat my garage workshop. And I'm giveaway an HS-1000 infrared heater are you the winner?
Working in the garage when it's below 30 degrees outside and only 40 inside is "unpleasant" to say the least. I wanted to have something to make it more comfortable to work, that is energy-efficient didn't have an open flame due to fumes from gas, etc in my garage and by-products of combustion that would be harmful to me. With that in mind, I originally did an install of the Heat Storm HD-1000-WX-Wifi 1000watt Quartz infrared heater. See that video here • How to HEAT your works...
The HS-1000 increased the temp in my small garage by about 5 to 10 degrees which was good BUT I WANTED MORE! I connected with the folks from Heat Storm and they sent me the Heat Storm HS-6000-GC Garage heater a variable 3000-6000 watt Infrared heater to evaluate and put together this video.
It runs on a 220\240volt circuit and needs a 25 amp breaker. It's wifi connected which for me is a BIG bonus as rather than leave it running constantly I can turn the heater on remotely when I'm headed home from work and have a garage that's more comfortable to work in on cold days.
For more details and full specs check out the HD-6000-GC Garage heater and the full line of heaters from Heat Storm at tinyurl.com/4nkjv5hv
Make sure to check back as I'll be doing a follow-up video on how well this keeps the cold away and my thoughts on it.

Thank you for the install video. It will help me install the new heater that just came today. Outside temps are pushing high nineties so will wait a few days before installing.
Ha! Happy to help. Yeah that a good late fall project
need this unit for my garage - looked up the wiring instructions and you were correct to cap the third wire.
Thanks for the informative video. You sold me on this garage heater.
thank you so much, made finding what unit i need for my new house easy.
Excellent to hear
Great video on installing both heaters.Very informative.
Thank you. Happy to hear that it helped!
That is going to be a nice upgrade!
Just bought a house and I'm very interesting in grabbing one of these units! Been woodworking for the last few years and by mid-December until Spring I'm basically shut down due to the cold.
Have to say it's been a God send for me during the winter and even more so now that I have laser that needs water cooling coming.... Hate to see that freeze up!
Thanks for the video. Just putting one of these up today. I’m trying to set it up so that I can swivel the bracket though. Doesn’t work for me shooting straight off the wall. The video was helpful.
Happy it helped.
Great Video, Installing 2 6000's in the next week or so. I might look at a 1000 for bonus room above the garage!
6000 are a great unit. If the bonus room is only a 200 or less square I think the 1000 will be fine
I'm looking to get this same heater! Nice install video!
Thank you! Been very happy with mine
I need to show this to my husband, thanks!
Great heater makes workshop comfortable!
It was awesome to learn about this unit! Love your comments about the fan noise. My husband said well do you want to be warm? We have close captain lol
Thank you. 've been very happy with the heater and YES BEING WARM is far better!
Just bought one and can't wait to get it set up.
You'll be happy with it works well!
@@YourCouchsucks Having trouble finding a power cord. Going to install it 12 or so feet from the panel box, can the heater be connected directly to the panel box without the need for an outlet?
@@terrywright8731 I preface this with I'm by no means and electrician....I don't think so. You be best served running an outlet closer.
I have been looking at Heat Storm as a bathroom heater. My only concern is that it has a fan and i feel like it is better to go for a fanless heater so humidity would not interfere with internal electronics.
Nice video, easy to follow. think I will get one!
Thank you greatly appreciate the kind words. It's a great heater. Sadly it's now cold enough in Upstate NY to have had to turn it on to be in the shop!
Looks like what I need. My pellet stove just isnt giving me enough heat. Thanks for the video.
Works pretty good for my situation and no open flame is a bonus!
Ordered one today for my shop and if it works as well as I think it will, I’ll be back for another.
Don't think you'll be disappointed.
Good install!
Thank you. It's pretty easy to install if you have the 220 already
This heater is what im looking for the heater is perfect for my bare brick cellar/ basement
I'm looking to heat my garage and don't have a ton of vertical clearance and thus, this unit caught my eye.
I'm wondering how well it heats in northern Midwestern winters with well below 0 temps.
Would depend on the square foot of your space and how insulated it. Smaller area might might not be much of an issue.
I'm in Upstate NY ND we certainly get our snow and cold
Great video, thanks.
Thank you appreciate that!
So I take it the 1000 is better for a smaller shop or 1 car garage? Great videos, very knowledgeable and entertaining, only thing missing is some eye candy once and a while!
Yes sir the 1000 is better for a smaller area couple hundred square feet.
From what I have heard the blower's CFM isn't enough for some applications. A great heater just not enough fan circulation.
For some larger area (400 square fee or more) I'd say that correct
Nice review
If you want some heat make sure you comment to get in on thr giveaway. We'll draw 1 random winner when we hit 100 comments!
Haven't put it thru its paces yet since the weather is a bit warmer and I've been working on other projects but I suspect it's going to work out well!!
Awesome video!
Thank you.
I didn't see recommended room size for this unit, would it supply good heat to a 300sq/ft insulated shop? Great video, thanks.
My garage is a about 400 square feet, insulated pretty good and this works out well
Hello, I have a 400sq ft 20x20 garage with a loft at 7ft tall and I was thinking about extending it all the way out so that I’m really only heating 20x20x7, walls are insulated but not the roof. Im thinking of using rigid foam panels for the extension of the loft so that’s Atleast insulated, do you think this heater would work for the space im using?
I think it would do well for that size
I don't hate too many things, but I can't stand the cold. I need a heated garage wrong. We've got one at work, and man, I agree with the "small taste of heat." I have been looking, and I think IR is the way to go, and something that can be wireless or remotely controlled would be the optimal solution. Anyone got any suggestions on what are some good ones to heat a 1 and a 1/2 car garage? (Its not quite as small as a one car but not big enough for 2 cars, Idk the specs off the top of my head sorry)
This one works decent enough for a 2 car garage in Upstate NY. That said I'm gonna probably get a mini split this spring more for the cooling as I've been running laser work alot this past year
I am looking for something to heat my pole building, I have a 30x25' building with 12 foot from concrete floor to roof ridge. I only have 2 inch rigid foam insulation right now and plywood walls so not the best insolated. How does this unit do with heating your garage shop now and how long does it take to get to temp on a cold day from not running it moving forward?
Tim this is a decent unit for my shop which on the small side. For your sized area I'd consider a mini split. I may be going the route myself.l in the spring for both heating and especially cooling for my laser engravers
Nice video and install only one criticism.... You should have used the connector on that cord
Does it run constantly on cold days to try and maintain?
No more then any other heat source. a lot comes down to how well insulated your space is and how well it retains it's temps.
Mine is coming in a week, ordered directly from Sylvane. Bought it only cuz the wifi feature. You think it be enough for two car garage? And the cord, it comes without it right? Thank you for great video
It depends on how well insulated your garage is but it works well for me. And as I remeber it did not come with a cord.
@@YourCouchsucks thank you!
Thanks thinking about this unit for my garage. Does it still meet your needs after another heating season? What's your garage insulation level, and size and leakiness of the garage door. I'm looking to heat a 576sf space, with R29 walls and ~R55 ceiling. Does it broadcast well to the furtherest points away?
It's still working for me. If I insulated my garage which is about 400 square feet better it would help for sure
In general I've been happy though I am considering a mini split unit in the spring for cooling as I'm using my lasers a lot.
@@YourCouchsucks I aspire to one day say in all sincerity "I'm using my lasers a lot". Totally baller.
@@WillLeamon between the diode and the fiber pretty much everyday,
How big is your garage and does the heater work well? I have a 24x28 insulated garage and I'm looking for a wifi controlled solution and this is about all I can find.
Roughly about the same dimension as yours. 400 square feet. This is working well enough though I may look at a mini split in the spring for cooling also
@@YourCouchsucks Mine is around 670 sq feet. I'm thinking I might need a 10000W heater instead of a 6000W, especially if the fan is weak on this one.
Strong work boss!
Thank you appreciate the comment!
I'm impressed by your versatility. Chased you at the BlackFly a few years back (I think I ended +15-20min behind on my BEST day:). With woodworking and electrical you're giving us couch potatoes some good inspiration!

@@koLLac HA! Thank you. Learned a lot from the family "jack of all trades master of none! " BlackFly is a fun race for sure! Looks like 2021 is going to happen....maybe?
@@YourCouchsucks Maybe? Not sure. I haven't ridden a bike in a while so it's not likely I'd go but maybe sometime in the future again:)
What is the fuse amp size ? And chance to win the hs-1000
You did not install a NM/SE Clamp Cable Connector. 🤔
What part of the US are you in? How large is your garage? I’d love to have some heat in mine.
Upstate NY so we certainly get snow and cold. My garage is about 400 square feet. Could be insulated better but this heater has allowed me to continue working.
I may be looking at a mini split unit this spring as I'd like both heating and cooling. Been doing a lot of laser work.
The heater requires a 30amp 2-pole breaker correct? Nice video
Sorry about the delay. Yes that would be a double pole 30amp breaker that I used
@@YourCouchsucks Thank you
Nice Install, how useful is the App for the product?
I actually use it frequently when I'm coming home from work and known I'm going to end up working in the shop. I'm Turn the heat on or up to get it up to temp
Will the 1000 heat a 200sqft insulated garage?
It would be pushing it the 1500 or 6000 would suit that area better in my opinion
@@YourCouchsucks Are you still happy with the 6000 it after 9 months?
@@chuckdelcambre3909 I am yes it's what I'm using to heat my garage in Upstate NY right now. In the spring I may switch to a mini split only because I'm looking to cool my space in the summer with an increase usage of lasers and such.
What if your Wifi is spotty, will this work "manually"?
Absolutely. I frequently adjust it up down or off whe. I working ithe garage. You really don't "need" the wifi component
@@YourCouchsucks Thank you. Gave a thumbs up just for the quick response. ;)
@@YourCouchsucks One more if you don't mind. 30amp circuit?
@@wollins2 that's what used
@@YourCouchsucks Last one for the subscription! ;) I'm assuming that its 10ga wire but three wire cable or two? (10/3 or 10/2?)
This thing is useless without a separate thermostat im finding out. It thinks its 67 in my garage when its onlu 49
I've seen where some folks have moved the thermostat from inside the outside of the heater case and it's helped out.
@@YourCouchsucks I'll give that shot thanks
@YourCouchsucks I did that and it reads the temp way better. But now it won't kick on at all even when the temp is well below the set temp. Heard anything about that issue by chance?
@@YourCouchsucks Yeah we left it on all day and night to see if it would kick on ever (with the ambient temp below the set temp the whole time) and it didn't. Might just have a faulty unit ugh
100?
He went too fast with the connection.
Great video . Thanks !
Thank you appreciate that
Your welcome ! I’ve been sitting here for days trying to find something to heat my small shed . I think you’ve shown me the one to get . Ill probably get away with just getting the smaller one . Seeing as my space isn’t as big
@@ssjblw they a great little heaters.
