      ********************************************************************************************
We are well aware of the heavy debate about these two shows. Please keep the ATLA vs TLOK debate and controversies at a minimum, preferably move them to the community LoK discord channel.. We want those watching the Korra reactions with S&P to have an enjoyable time within the community and throughout this experience, and not have to sift through a bunch of hostile and aggressive debating or attacking the show. It just ruins the vibe and the fun, and if enough of it occurs it can also color S&P's reactions and cause them to be less natural, the very thing we are here for. We also want to minimize this because these debates often result in someone posting major spoilers for content later in the show.
      Thank you!

Love Korra, but after Korra, My Hero Academia is a must! It’s an anime sort of like Harry Potter but with super heroes! So good! Oh, watch the English Dub (has English voices!). The Alternative is English Sub which has Japanese voices and English subtitles, but that is very hard and distracting to react to. Also, based on this episode, I would put the technology around the late 1920s or early 1930s, since they have radio (but no TV that we’ve seen), which completely makes sense, set xx years in the future after Ang’s series.

I've always wondered if the previous life has some influence on this - both in terms of their next life being a bit of 'monkey paw' situation about the kind of personality traits they thought lacked and in terms of not having to work so hard for skills that they had to focus most on in their previous life. Aang excels at the skills Roku struggled with (water bending) and virtues (healthy, reliable friendships, inspiring people to be better) that he thought he lacked.
Unlike Aang Korra is not a pushover that avoids conflicts and elements other than her "natural" one come easy to her, not just as a skill but also in terms of using them. Aang would always strongly favour airbending where possible; Korra is just all over the place, sometimes she even seems to favour fire; which is another interesting thing given Aangs complicated journey to appreciate the element.
EDIT: Totally forgot. I also bet it's not a coincidence Aang reincarnated into the Southern Watertribe not the Northern one.

So one thing to be aware of with this series was that it was originally planned for one season. Then Nickelodeon wanted 2 seasons. Then after that season they wanted two more. So each season is its own contained story, with not much of an overarching plot like the fire lord in TLA. Which isn't really the showrunners faults, but it is something you should know!

    • @saffronique

@yabada7866 there's a lot of good too though. I enjoy seeing the way the world progressed after Aang, I loved revisiting some of the og characters as older adults, and most of the villians in Korra are interesting. Plus I just love Korra's personality! It was nice to see a character like that as a little girl, someone who was tough and headstrong and badass.

I liked Korra for all the reasons you did. And I think it was good that they explored an age where the avatar and the world had more questions even if those questions are messier and more complicated. It was definitely fun and I always recommend it. But that season scheduling (I believe nick had ordered it 1 + 1 + 2?), imho, handicapped the writing. I don't mind the self-contained stories, but it made the character and world progress feel a bit disconcordant as the writers found themselves writing season endings as 'finales' only to unexpectedly need to reset somewhat to start a new season. But in the end, I'm happy there's more seasons of korra than originally intended. Worth the watch

@sesquipedalian6278 I agree with literally everything you said! I feel so bad for the writers, all of the seasons are wonderful self contained stories, and I know they could've made something just as well regarded as the original if they'd known they had 4 seasons to follow Korra's journey from the beginning. Even so, I think the questions they tackled were great, and showed a real understanding of the fact that the original fan base had aged, and was mature enough to tackle messier issues.

Kuruk was laid back, so Kyoshi was strict and disciplined.
Kyoshi was harsh, so Roku was forgiving.
Roku was indecisive and hesitant, so Aang made choices on a whim, and believed in his choices even if he thought they weren't good ones.

Another contrast between the two is their upbringing and circumstances.
Aang was missing his people and hardly had anyone to rely on to learn what he needed (remember his struggle to find someone to teach him Earth and Fire?). He and the gang, very early on if you remember, sometimes struggled to scrape enough coins together to buy food.

One of the things I love about korra is how the creators could have piggy backed on the success of the last airbender and done the same things again, but they specifically wanted to have korra stand on its own.
Korra is almost the exact opposite of aang. Where aang was very in touch spiritually and never wanted to be avatar, korra is very physically and is lacking spiritually. And one of the first things she says is I'm the avatar and you need to deal with it, very much the opposite of aang.

The original series kind of operated like the Wild West, where you could have battles and there were practically no rules about where you could or couldn't bend. After the war ended, peace was restored and the nations started working together, technology and urbanization of the area that became Republic City exploded, and with urbanization comes government regulation and limitations about where people can or can't bend.

So something to know going into this show is that this show suffered from an issue that the last airbender did not. Nickelodeon purchased this series one season at a time, so the creators didn't want to foreshadow things that would not happen if the show was cancelled. So that magic of something from season one really fully coming around at the end is not as much there in this series.

Guru Pathik is the name of the man who knew Monk Gyatso and taught Aang the chakras to control the Avatar State. Aang's friends from 100 years ago are King Bumi and his Fire Nation friend Kuzon. Tenzin is a new name, from Tenzin Gyatso a Dalai Lama.
Aang and Katara's children are in order:
A son named Bumi - for King Bumi
A daughter named Kya - for Sokka and Katara's mother Kya
