I've just became XP metal detectors second ambassador, that's why I spent a week in France training with the XP team and the first ambassador - Gary Blackwell. Well done Merrill. As an old Brit, I remember always, the great debt owed by this Island's inhabitants, for the bravery and sacrifices made by the American armed forces in two World Wars. I salute your Grand-Father, as well as all those thousands of brave soldiers, air-men, sailors and their back-up crews on t'other side of the Pond ✊. I wish you much success with the XP brand.

I am honored that you say that. My grandpa was my idol! He was an amazing guy!
Oh tosh. My dad was a Desert Rat., veteran of El Alamein and Tobruk, my mum worked in a munitions factory. Never saw hide nor hair of a yank when things were at their worst. Sick to death of the fawning over americans. I live near the D Day beaches.....there were LOTS of brave boys killed from Canada, UK, France and Poland etc. Our Island doesn't owe any debt. The US made us pay...often for unfit equipment...for decades. It ensured we were impoverished after the war. If anything the US owes a debt to the people of our islands...who soaked up the punishment and stuck it out virtually alone while the yanks sat on their hands and waited to see which way the cookie crumbled.
Do what makes you happy. Your excitement keeps me watching.

When I first got into detecting, I had a Bounty Hunter and then found your channel. You were over the moon about the Equinox 800 and mutil frequency and since I wanted a better machine that could pinpoint I bought one. Then the Deus 1 was the rage, then the Legend , then the Deus 2 then the Manticore and now the Deus 2 again. I used to follow you to see what was new out there but alas have you closed that door? Merrill your mind is one full of wonder and restless curiosity, and when some other new machine hits the market I suspect your heart will yearn to try it out and see what is out there in the uncharted universe and frontiers of Metal Detecting. Live long and Prosper and enjoy the long voyage home.......perhaps one day you may be back on the Minelab side of the force. Cheers have fun, and thanks for the Nox 800 push I still love it and use it all the time.
Im 23 detectors in. It got boring continuing to buy detectors. I could be a jack of all trades but I want to work on mastery....and with the help of the people who made a product.
I think you are already a Master Metal Detectorist, I watch many channels and yours is often the most productive and mentioned in chats so much so that you are mentioned and Identified as just "Merrill", kind of like a super star who just requires one name to be recognized , eg. Cher, Stallone, Dylan ect. The guys in Deus will always know more about the machines (they designed and built them) but your drive and heart is rarely equaled in Metal Detecting Go go go Merrill. P.S for the Guys in Deus design, seeing as the vast majority of your customers are in the older age bracket, could you come out with a machine that has much larger Numbers and text to read? That is what makes me hesitant to purchase a Deus and makes the Manticore look attractive to me.@@MetalDetectingNYC

Hmmm, that extreme hunter might be good for hunting deep artillery shells on land. We’ve found several at around 4’ deep, liable to be some deeper I reckon. I will say, in good soil, an old nautilus will hit a gold chain like a hammer, not sure why as I’m never really hunting gold but, it’ll reach out and grab it. A great adventure and an exciting start, looking forward to the next!

What a great video! Two legends in one place.
I've found small stuff with my D1, fishing hooks, earrings etc. I now have a D2 too with a contol box which is new to me.
I only do beachwork, and the D2 is just for the wet, which I was denied with the SF.
Off to Mexico for 5 months on Monday with both detectors, and having both should give me at least 10hrs a day.
Time learning your machine should be in your commandments too, they do say 10,000hrs makes you an expert in any pastime.
I sometimes close my eyes when I have a target, and try to see it with my ears. 😜

Congratulations Merrill! So happy for you! XP chose a great guy to represent them. Gary is “the man” and I love his humor. My best finds ever were found while using his Sonar program on the Deus1 w/HF 9” coil.
One of the best things I did for myself … though it took a while to sink in 😆… was to study how metal detectors actually work electronically and how they behave over different soils and different conductive targets. I’ve been loving this hobby since 2003 and swinging XP detectors since 2017.

I would have been bummed if it was Minelab that hired you, because I have a WS6 Master, but this works out great, because in the end it is all about me! 😛 You did rate the Deus II as the best detector in the world, if I remember correctly, so it isn’t hard to promote a company that you already believe in! Seriously though, congrats on the new job opportunity, and I look forward to your XP specific content, as XP’s North American ambassador and beach specialist!
PS: Maybe you can convince them to make a high quality sand scoop, and clear protective cover for the WS6 puck, because mine looks pretty scratched up! Or, a WS6 puck super rugged replacement housing!
Mastery is detecting under massive power lines in mineralized soil and dealing with can slaw and can stay detecting because you love the hobby. My 800 is great for multi frequency, but I run 10hrz it's just so quiet and a 6 inch coil. As always thank you merrill.

Congratulations on your ambassadorship Merrill. Looks like you had a lot of fun there in France with Gary and the rest of the team. I have learned a lot from Gary on his skill school channel. The only time that I got the (ARE YOU SERIOUS) look from the XP team is when they saw that I updated up to 0.71. It worked for me and I was scared to change. But my favorite new addition is Max Freq.

Interestingly what connected me with XP was when my cable snapped when I was on vacation in Turks and Caicos. They have since come up with a V2 of that wire.

Thank you! I genuinely want to learn and I have an opportunity to work with the creators from XP. Buying and testing detectors was getting me to 90% of each detectors capacity. I want to go to 100%. There is so much I could learn and in turn reteach!

You seem like the most trust worthy metal hunter on YT. A long time ago I saw a video where you recommended the Nokta Makro Simplex as the best budget detector. Has that changed? Should I get the $200 Light, or $330 Ultra? I will mostly be hunting in grass, but will do some creeks also.

I will say while using Deus 2 this past summer at the beach, I was amazed at the many small fragments of metal being pulled.

What Gary said about single frequency is soooo true,I have worked sites with the D one and range of coils,then gone over again with multi frequency machines and found nothing.Its about knowing your equipment and the effort you put in that works.looks like you had a better flight home 😅😊

My CZ21s works great in black sand - probably reason i do so well in black sand cause many other machine dont. I hunt in all metal and can pick up small pieces like that at depth

This is great, Merrill. Earlier this year I wrote a 20ish page paper for a business course on XP's business and their detectors. It would have been nice to have inside access and I did try, of course, but to no success. I currently use the Deus 2 in Rochester, NY and love it but know I have a ways to go in terms of the learning curve. Your tutorials have been helpful. Cheers to you!

What a great trip. I did a cycle holiday from Toulouse to Monaco back in 1996. Great scenery, accommodation, food and wine.
So which XP do you recommend. I have used a Minelab Nox800 for 4 years now.
The one that made me fall in love was the Deus 2. There are so many people who swear by the Deus 1 but you get a complete Deus 1 within a Deus 2.

Be very Proud you have your Grandads name. I'm getting emotional knowing what our men in uniform went through in WWII. My Dad was in Germany my Uncles were also in Germany.
