Nice 50 caliber bullet at 4:39. The Army Air Forces used to have target practice at things in the ocean. I found a similar 50 cal. and numerous shells at Cupsogue Beach in Westhampton after a major erosion event. No corrosion at all but the rifling was plain to see so I knew it was fired. Most of the shells were pretty corroded but some were good enough to preserve. There was an old wreck that was protruding out of the surf at that time. It had an iron smoke stack which resembled a German U-Boat conning tower. So it was the perfect practice target. 50 caliber shells literally covered the ocean beached for years after the war and many picked them up to sell as scrap. A few still show up. Steve LI
I know that the first sub is somewhere out on the east end of Long Island. Maybe you saw that? We were in Southhold eating at a restaurant and was talking to a gentleman who was telling us about it and that it was being restored. The Hatch is New Suffolk Historical Council.
Excellent instructional video Merrill. I'm convinced that XP have found a sound ambassador in you (btw peeps, I do not work XP machines), so no 'fan-boy' bias from me. You are simply a good man who has our hobby's best interests at heart. You are an intelligent rational thinker, not a 'yes man drone'. That, in itself, is essential. A company requires less representatives than can be counted on one hand , but they must be really experienced, top-quality ones. Silly hats and silly acronyms count for little more than a "Look at me" delusion, in my experience. The real testers work in-line with a company's engineers on a company pay-roll. Anyroadup, enough of me seeming like I'm blowing warm air up your arse Merrill: I'm not.. Keep your head "firmly planted on your neck" and. "Go ye ahead young man".
Sound ambassador for XP you have a laugh, he aint got a clue about any detector let alone a top machine like the Deus 2, Its all about free detectors and gear like many other so called experts, He has no idea how to set the machine up for the conditions, No experience = no idea...
You lucky lucky man. I know very little about you. Only started watching about 3 months ago. But from what I’ve seen, you deserve what is happening for you right now. You have given back to the detectorist community and try to help us noobs with very very resourceful info. Your content is great and your personality is just as great ! Congrats on your new found success and i wish you nothing but awesomeness in the new year.
I’m just catching up on videos bud. I’ve been going thru some rough times this past 4-5 months but I’m going to watch all your videos to put you back on top in my line up. I hope going to XP makes you all that much better then you already was! It’s going to be interesting!!! Thanks for all the great videos!!!

Not sure if anything was said but I like Calabash. When I first got in to XP detectors, we spoke a few times and he helped. I will always appreciate that.
Nice job as always, Merrill. I’ve not done much beach hunting, but I learned a lot from this video. I think you’ll love testing out the ORX. I’m a Deus II user these days, but I’ve found some pretty amazing historical relics with the ORX.
No worries Merrill. Stay on your own schedule. Even though its just another day for you, you ve got a bunch on your plate. Job, family friends...Always enjoy your videos. Zeb from NH
Metal detected last weekend at North Myrtle beach and it had been extremely windy leading up to it. We were finding green crusty quarters and dimes and orange nickels on the surface or just barely below. It was a wonderful day of detecting
just got interested in metal detecting and have found your channel to be the best i have found for information. due to multiple projects and things i bought a cheapo lolorance from amazon and it should be in today. excited to hit the beach this week and hope this cheap unit will actually work and it wasnt a complete waste of money.
Good stuff Merrill, I love to hunt on an eroded beach. Found a gold coin from the 1800s late last year in exactly the conditions you mentioned. (What no cool XP detector backpack or did I miss that unboxing? 😉)
Merril, that earring would pull someone’s ear lobe off, maybe it did, ugh!, lol Glad to see your channel grow. You got a sweet gig from XP, they couldn’t have picked a nicer guy.
I’m working on a video right now for XP where I teach about the WS6 Master. That is a full Deus 2 at a 700 dollar price point. There is no XY screen and it is not waterproof. But the value is in the WS6
I love your art. The rapping is hilarious. Laughter is sacred. I love the unlocks. Of course you can update, but you got nuthin to apologize for. Have fun learning the new stuff. Happy New Year!
Remember this your teaching job is the most important and not taking any time away from from your lovely family been married for almost 40 years and raised 5 children and I have a very stable retirement already at 59 take care and good luck

Quite the interesting collection of spent bullets, they look to be of a size often used by the military. If you look at the base/bottom of the big casings you should see some letters or possibly the name of the maker. You may also see two numbers, that is usually the date (year) of the manufacturer of the casing. With that info you can roughly guess when the casings and bullets entered the ocean. My best guess is they were fired as part of Naval or Coast Guard training.
