This seriously works. I had a 7 5/8 fitted hat, and I needed it to be a 7 3/8 I did what he told me to do about 3 times, and it fit great on my head. Thank you. Saved me from selling it
I wear 7 1/4. I tried it on my 7 3/8 hat and managed to make it fit perfectly for me. It was a 95% polyester 5% spandex New Era hat, so this makes the trick for those materials too 👍 Thanks for the video! Saved the hat from catching dust in my cupboard. It was a present so I didn't want to sell it 😀
59 Fifty 100% polyester fitted from a 7 1/2 down to about 7 3/8 maybe slightly smaller, but not down to 71/2. Plus you don't risk burning it in an oven, spark in the microwave, or drowning or soaking in water. By far, it is the most sensible and easiest option of those I've seen online. Essentially, using steam to relax and shrink the size down. I did it, and it worked. Did like 8 minutes the way you show, with most of the back of the hat and about an inch of the brim hanging straight over the pot (sort of like a lid) so all the stem goes inside the center and along the sides. Took it off and tried it on, but I still wanted more shrinkage on the sides. I put it back on and focused on each side individually for 5 minutes each. I had the side hanging over the center of the boiling water rather than closer to the edge of the pot, as it originally was. Pulled it off after each side was done, and I tried it on and much better. Adjusted bending the brim again from the corners (where the brim meets the cap material on top) and absolutely perfect. Great video. Thanks for posting.
Thanks my man! Worked for me too. Congrats on your weight loss success. I’m in the same boat. Gone down from 8 to 7 3/4. I’ve got a ton of caps to shrink down now.
Thanks for the video! I did it twice at 10 minutes. It didn’t shrink it much. I did it again last night at 25 min and now it fits perfectly. Thank you! I’m going to shrink a few more caps tonight!
This works as of 2023 November, my 7 3/8 fit like a 7 1/4 now 😎 make sure your hat is floating on top of the pot though, I wasn’t paying attention and a lil side of my hat inside the water & got burnt but I was able to clean it off real quick! Thank you.
Thanks a lot man, I have a rare San Antonio Spurs hat in all black with grey OG logo, can't find it anywhere since they switched up and I was gonna sell it lol, I used this method and went from a 7 3/4 to 7 5/8 and threw my hat in the dryer for 15 min and now it fits snug without no damage to the structure of the hat.
Maaan I have over 60 hats all 7 7/8 or 8 because I have dreads and I really want to cut my hair but I don’t want to lose my collection. I’m scared to cut my hair but I just may try this
Thanks for that bro! I recently bought a 59Fifty Pittsburgh Pirates fitted which is a 7 1/2. I'd previously bought a 7 1/8 fitted but it was a little tight hence buying a bigger size, problem is the 7 1/2 was too big! I was thinking of selling it which I really didn't wanna do because I really like it and haven't come across another one like it. This seems like the perfect solution so I'll be trying this one out, many thanks from the UK!
thank you brotha you are a life saver. i have the same issue with the weight loss and so many hats i bought when i was heavier and couldn’t wear them when i lost weight because they were too big. i didnt think my fitted hat size would change with my body size but i guess its a thing 😂. been shrinking hats all night brotha thanks. god bless you
I have a problem with New Era fitted hats that this video has just completely sorted. I'm between sizes and my first attempts at addressing this was people recommend to stretch a cap. I did that and it does work but it looks stretched. The inner head band is very visable through the size of the cap and it doesn't look great. The other issue is its still too tight on my head. Going a size up I tried to use hat reducing foam. This didn't feel great and again pushes the inner head band into a more visble position. This technique right here works incredible. My reservations were not that this fine gentlemen wasn't telling the truth but I just presumed the amount of shrinkage would be quite subtle. It isn't.. after a bit of testing - and i've not pushed this too far, it feels like you can go down a full hat size. My head is exactly 60cm. And the 7 5/8 I just bought is around 60.6cm. It took me just over 10 mins of steaming to get a hat that would have blown off my head if someone farted in the house over the road to a perfectly fitted tight cap that could withstand a strong wind. As a bonus is was a great time to curve the rim and get out the side creases. as a tip make sure the pan is just large enough so the entire back side of the headband gets steamed Thank you so much!
Maaaan I hope this really works! I just bought 2 new hats from New Era, a batting practice Tigers hat that fits PERFECTLY at 7 1/8, and a taupe NY Mets in the same size that is at least 7 1/4”. I can get my fingers all the way between the hat and my head with any resistance. Was going to send it back, already got the approval, but I love it and they don’t do exchanges so I’d have to do the whole wait process again. If this can get it to shrink 1/8” I’d be soooo stoked. Gonna try this right after work. Luckily it was on sale for $25 so if it doesn’t I won’t be too pissed that I can’t send it back. Thank you for this! If it works that is 😂
Got two wool fitted hats from new era after one i got fit perfectly but they are way too big and id rather try shrinking than returning and/or buying new ones hoping they actually fit
A 7 5/8 is too snug on me and I usually can’t find the right size, I picked up the last hat the had in a sz 8 so I’m trying this method now to get down a bit. I can fit a finger in between my head and the hat, so we shall see.
Thanks for this info. What I don't like is the front and top of the had being so darn rigid and I want it relaxed and to lay more flat rather than standing up. The way I do it is simply putting the cap directly into boiling water, top down. I turn off the heat but let the hat sit in the water for 5 minutes or more. Remove it and work the front to relax it more. So far, my hats have not been damaged, they relax and shrink.
I put it on my head wet, after it’s cooled down, to mold it to my head . Also you can use hair dryer while it’s on your head But I’ve only used this method on fitted dad hats
Uhm I have a flat brim and my size is 7,5. When I put the hat on logo facing front it fits perfectly but when I wear it logo facing the back side it’s a bit loose, is that normal?
Hey! My hat is perfect size, but it is very tall and if I place it above my ear, the top of the hat is 2 inches away from the top of my head. Can i do something about it?
I hope this works bought a dope ass 7 3/8 hat but it feels 2 sizes too big…. I tried it worked way too good 😭i left it too long with too much heat n it shrunk too much

you can get a pan grease splatter screen to but on top of the pan and that really helps keep your hat from falling into the water

I really appreciate that thank you!
