Back in the 90's as a teen when we all had Starter jackets and hats I was the master curve artist. I did mine and all my friends hats by hand. No tools necessary.
It’s actually a way to get that old 90’s curve look that really puts more curve to the edges and keep the middle brim more straight. But I’d have to show in person how to do that.
Dude… literally same. Just started getting addicted and bought like 7-8 hats and only had Lids curve/steam my first one I bought. All my other ones are still flat, hence why I’m on YT looking how to curve on my own. But same here gonna curve my own from now on but my first ever one lids curved 😂
Yoo I randomly had a steamer buried in my closet.. didn't even no.never used this method before... Crispy af... Love it. Good looks bro. Best content for hats Iv seen💯
Crazy how things go back and forth. When I was a little kid in the late 80's early 90's people liked curved brims but when I was a teen in the mid late 90's even early 2000's we preferred straight brims. I keep it straight! Jersey baby!
What's weird is how wrong it looks depending on which fashion is in at the time I remember when fitted caps came in fashion in England were I'm from. I was in my early to late teens and wearing a normal hat with a curved brim looked so weird know it's the opposite
I steamed my hat over my woman's rice cooking 😈 I feel like a curved hat is more " grown man swagg " shyt straight brim reminds me of long t's and baggy pants . Appreciate it G.
Steamed method definitely looked better! I avoided flat brims missing out on a lot of great designs for no reason. Thanks for the vid! I got some hats to buy now👍🏻
Nice. Thanks. I used the steam function on my iron. Worked well. To be clear i didn’t iron the brim. I just hovered the iron over it and turned the steam to max.
I have best Hat Collection EVER!!! If My hats come Flat I keep ‘em Flat. If they come curved I keep ‘em curved If they have a sticker than I keep sticker That’s how I’m gon rock ‘em Forever.
I’m from cali but I used to live in VA and wild visit NY all the time and eventually had a OG in a hat shop that showed me the true method to get that outer curve with the middle being lightly curved. Trust…it makes a big difference comfort wise as well because our skulls aren’t evenly round. It’s essentially your hand method but you curve your fingers only inward and push your thumbs down on the middle to keep the middle straight. Try it out. You’ll see and feel the difference once u put it on and you’ll never go back.
Try the 3930! New Era's Stretch fit. The brim is already curved and perfectly functional. By that I mean it works to keep the sun out of your eyes. I get annoyed when people wear flat because you cannot see fly balls that way. I learned to re-curve 5950s a while ago and I'm real glad that I don't have to anymore since they came out. 3930 also can be worn forward or backward, but when you go back it will leave marks in your forehead a bit. It's also not wool so it doesn't shrink when you pop it in the washing machine or diswasher. Wool smelled and held crazy sweat marks. And purple dye got on my face from sweating in 59's in the outfield in HS. Like a middle infielder wearing a glove with a solid web (Derek Jeter and no other SS since at least 5 years before him), way to show everyone that knows what they're talkin' about that you don't. I've buy a Cubs or White Sox hat every year (have mortgage, kid, broke) and I prefer the 39
2024 and i have over 30 hats ... none of them have been curved. I rock them all flat.. i feel pain in my gut when i curve the brim.. cant lie its a clean look though
So far this is the best method yet. I’ll cop a steamer here soon. I like a slight curve so I’m still able to wear my glasses, but I can make it work without the coffee mug. My man, every time you said Chicago Reds hurt me in my soul. It’s Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds. 😂 But I forgive you it’s all in the Midwest.
Damn that is a PERFECT bend! Help me out..I'm 60 cm so I'm right at 7.5 and 7 5/8. Don't want it super tight or too loose that it falls off if bend head down..which size should I go with? I'm getting reg 59fifty I think over the low profile..help bro
Dang. Im not that old but this made me feel old. Used to do both these methods as a kid. Didnt use a steamer though but that helps the process go quicker. Could also go no-budget method and "steam" it over boiling water on the stove. We'd also use just a regular rubber band stretched over a curved brim, tighter the rubber band the tighter the curve. We would sometimes curve the brim around a baseball and then wrap the rubber band around the whole thing. lots of good methods out there! You covered these well.
Good info. I have to try the steamer. I have to tell you it's Cincinnati Reds, not Chicago. And one last thing, you gotta get a couple of Negro League caps.
I’m a hat dude I could respect the video never thought of the steamer thing. I’m old school bending the brim is still my thing. Cincinnati fans going to get on him about that hat lol not Chicago but all good bro it’s a unedited video lol
No need for a steamer. I've been bending my own brims since before I was in tee-ball. Whether pure wool, polyester, cotton, nylon or a blend of some they all fold and curve essentially the same. If you want to curve it symmetrically without having to even double-check it just flip the cap upside down like a bowl. Then with one hand gripping under the brim, and with your thumb at one side and other fingers at the opposite corners of the brim where it meet the cap, squeeze the corners of the brim together. Kind of making the brim like a hard taco shell 🌮. Line up the edges and bring the rest of the brim edges together. Perfect curve every time. You can do it with your eyes closed once you know the feel of it.
I do steam my brims once in a while these days but I’ve been bending brims since little league when I was 10… just be careful and bend the brim slow and avoid folding it. Should be good.
It’s better if you use a flask and mold the brim around it. it will shape right down the middle the cup will give you an uneven crease the fresco hat is clean but it looks like it crease a lil uneven
For the steam you can boil water just have a pan for like pasta and put water at the bottom let it boil until the steam rises and the you can shape the hat to your liking
got into hats about a month ago, I started doing the Mug method even without the steamer (I have one coming) seems to be holding form fine, but I leave it in the mug a lot longer than I would with steam
Thanks , l was a A Frame comes already curved guy 😂😂😂 but they don’t have as much options and creativity like Fitteds so l had to jump on Fitteds. I didn’t want to wear them flat so lm happy l can curve it.
Damn I feel like I needa make a video showin how I bend these brims. Also your gonna wanna fix that SF hat it’s got a point on the left side of the brim
If you don’t have a steamer, a kettle does almost the exact same thing. I’d argue it’s actually better because you don’t have to hold the kettle, it just sits there pouring steam out of a spout
Thanks for the video! I have a hat that could use a little bend work & I already have a steamer. 👌🏽 (Bought it a couple years back from Walmart less than $15 for the steamer)

Lmaoooo facts. I’m over here trynna get the perfect bend, looking at his SF hat, that is far from perfect

To me curved brims are timeless. The flat style was hot back in the early 2000s. It’s still ok but the curve looks sharp
