A fantastic review thank you Thomas. My Caddy is 4 years old. I’d definitely recommend getting a reversing camera as it’s a big vehicle not easy to see when reversing. My camera was retro fitted and is fantastic. A really nice driving profile being high up on the road and looking over cars. I have the 1.6tdi which is very economical. Disadvantage is being high sided, it’s very vulnerable in even the slightest wind. Generally need to drive at 60mph as I live on a windy coast in Northern Scotland but can do 70mph on a good day! I’d say it lacks in power in general and a 2.0 engine would have be a better choice for me. Good for tall people like myself. My Caddy has been converted with an electric boot and ramp so I can drive from my electric wheelchair.
Hi Thomas, First of I like your videos very much. I wanted to share my VW experience her with you guys. I have a 2009 Golf 6 GT 1.4 with DSG. I live in Hong Kong so the weather is quite extreme. Very hot and humid. Lots of traffic and close driving. My Golf has only run 88.900km since 2009 and it had already some major failures. End of 2015 one engine sensor broke and had to be replaced with new part from Germany. Cost for the sensor was around 500,- Euro. Then the cooling system of the car broke. Pump and belt had to be replaced as well. That with the sensor cost me around 1500,- Euro. Also since I have the car electronics keep playing up. Electronic side mirrors don't fold and freeze on a regular basis and the entertainment unit will not recognize my iPod and wont play any music. Now the latest problem after all this is with the DSG. It feels very rough especially when accelerating from stand still in traffic like for example at a round about. There is sometimes a big jerk when I accelerate harder. Also the DSG was already replaced by VW Hong Kong in 2012 free of charge but it feels exactly the same as before. Maybe they didn't replace it and just pretend they did to safe money?! I bought this car because I had the impression German cars are more reliable but that is clearly not the case. I am quite disappointed with my Golf to say the least. Who cares about the solid door noise when the car keeps having real expensive problems? Also I hear from friends that Audi's don't do well in Hong Kong either. My next car will be Japanese since they have a better reliability score of late and parts are cheaper to get fixed or replaced. Thinking about a Mazda CX-5. I really don't like cars that have so many issues since I am quite young and don't wont to spend so much money on silly repairs and apparently Japanese cars are more suited for the Asian climate. Btw I also really like that you talk about the whole leather seat thing. I never thought about it before and I am happy you made me aware of it. I will try not to have leather in my new cars from now on. :)
+GeminiNite Very interesting, thank you very much for this insight. Always helps to get feedback from around the world, especially because we cannot test all the cars on the long run!
Thank you for your test review on the Caddy Alltrack. It seems quite a good allrounder, except for the Sat Nav position. I cannot believe VW would be so inconsiderate and fit the screen in such a dangerous position, when, they could very easily incorporate a folding screen on the top of the dash, sharing the space of the top glovebox! Very simple solution, and with the size of that glove box, they could fit a huge screen that can be used for entertaining the kids, when the car is not in motion!
DSG7 is a real disaster for VW group. Every, but every DSG7 gear suffers from multiple issues. Here in Israel VW lost in a class trial and was forced to pay compensations to each car owner.
Today, while browsing UA-cam, I came across this video and I was very happy because I followed it with pleasure, it was a channel, but since there is no subtitle option in the video, I cannot understand what is being said. My English is not good.😔
you're right: the navigation system is way too low. You have to look far down, Mercedes and BmW and Audi get it right to put the display on top of the dashboard
I've never understood why manufacturers use these sort of citcuirts to show a vehicles off-road ability. It's hardly strenuous and I'm sure the Caddy could do a lot more. Even Toyota did the same thing with the latest Landcruiser, it was just a car park with some steep hills and a couple of logs to drive over.
Thomas we had a lot of 7speed dsg failures in jamaica, in 2012-2014 jettas with the 1.4tsi twincharged . Problem seems to have been resolved somewhat so far
The DSG revs the engine quite high sometimes. When you floored it on the motorway, the RPM jumped up to 4000. But the torque disappears after 3000, so why is that?
***** That's not what I mean. Diesels run out of power above 3000 RPM and that's what I mean by the torque disappearing. I think there is no point shifting above 3000 RPM in a diesel for a DSG. For a manual, there is, because you lose more time by shifting than by not having maximum power.
ast5515 Because it's the fastest way to rev up the engine into the max torque range. It's like driving in long gear for low fuel composition and having to accelerate fast, you go to a lower gear and step on it. If Thomas had stepped a little less on the gas pedal the transition would have been more progressive, more in the way you expected.
+Autogefuhl yes Thomas, for example VW Passat B8 or Skoda Superb both with the same engine 2.0 TDI 150 hp and DSG, but without 4Motion doesn't have Adblue tank, that's why I'm curious, when I choose 4Motion system, it means automatically an AdBlue tank added ?
i have watch meny car videos where they talk about torque but i have never understand what torque does and what's the difference between horsepower and torque. can someone may be helpful and explain ? :)
+Hundra14Kronor torque measures the turning force, rpm measures the rounds per minute (revolving speed), horsepower is the overall power rate. So I am not rocket scientist, but that should be horsepower = torque * rpm
tahats som intresting stuf rigth there. if i drive an 300 hp 100 nm torque car how can i as an driver fele the difrens if i drove an 300 hp 300 nm torque car ?
Proportions of the short version look unusual. Thomas, I totally agree with you on the placement of the navigation system. It should be above the climate control and can't think of any reason why VW did this... :-(
+Autogefuhl Thank you Thomas ! For the future reviews, it would be interesting, only for diesel models, if you could show us if it has or not an AdBlue tank ( I mean the AdBlue cap beside the Diesel cap ).
Good video but that's one rather goofy looking car. Like a Japanese Kei car with its boxy narrow shape and tiny wheels for its size. And with the big gap between the Tupperware wheel arches and the wheels itself gives it the appearance of someone who's pulled up their pants way too high. Almost Urkel like.
I promise you..I 've got an ordinary golf mark two 2wd...with decent tires...and this golf would have managed to stick to that caddys butt throughout this "test" .Is this how they test their 4x4 vehicles ?? Climbing these tiny-winy baby hills ?? Nothing against this caddy....sweet car...
+roxoleto I mentioned everything that would be to criticize on this car. I ll not invent some flaws just that a review seems more authentic. I think we have proven a lot of times that we are as authentic as possible and that it doesnt matter where a car is built
+Autogefühl I think everyone with half a brain appreciates the effort and energy you guys put in to reviewing cars and would agree that these are among the most authentic and critical reviews on youtube. Your work is well appreciated!!
Great review Thomas ! Also it's an interesting combination between a family car and the off road capabilities of a small SUV. I'm curious Thomas, this combination between 2.0 TDI 150 hp , DSG and 4Motion has an AdBlue tank, because the same combination but only with 2 wheels drive hasn't .
Thomas shows its not necessary to consume meat in order to be strong! 💪🏼 Nice review. Great mix of road and terrain shots. Not available in Canada. Sigh
The display gps is totally wrong placed, the glovebox was much better in the previous model, the engine is noisy and leak of power, why smaller outmirrors? There are better cars out there
Check out the all-new Caddy --> ua-cam.com/video/HB8Z0BnSHgc/v-deo.html
A 4-wheel drive VW Caddy certainly looks the part and my sheer passion for compact MPV's is still growing
I have a VW caddy and it's the best car in the world. Thank you for showing this new version! Love the Commentary.
+Sunny Days thx! Thinking of getting one for my motorcycle as well :)

I loved this video, you demonstrated it perfectly and your explanation is spot on!
+angerfistzalig 👌
I'm looking for a car to suit me and my doberman. I think I've found it. Thanks Thomas for another suberb presentation!
The vw caddy sells itself even with minor flaws as it has a huge following and retains its value very well.

That looks so cool! love the design language that VW is currently working with

Nice review, I want one for my kayak and bicycles! Could listen to his fluent accented Englsh all day.
+Richard Maxwell 👍👍
Thank you for this very well made review! It has been a great help in my decision of choosing a new car :)
gr8 to hear!
Nice review !

Nice one. ....the longer version as Alltrack would be a handy little camper van :-) I would be interested in it for the future if that was an option.
stupid question but a dsg doens't always has peddels on the steering wheel?
VW cars are looking sportier and better.Nice Caddy
and nice review aswell.
+Armands Deglavs appreciated !
***** Keep up the good work.I prefer you over the Saabkyle04 whos reviews are very good aswell. 👍
The DSG revs the engine quite high sometimes. When you floored it on the motorway, the RPM jumped up to 4000. But the torque disappears after 3000, so why is that?
+ast5515 When torque suddenly jumps down it might have to do with the sailing function
***** That's not what I mean. Diesels run out of power above 3000 RPM and that's what I mean by the torque disappearing. I think there is no point shifting above 3000 RPM in a diesel for a DSG. For a manual, there is, because you lose more time by shifting than by not having maximum power.

In sweden the 7 speed dsg has broke down on taxi cars
Thomas, you have to do check of strenght and quality of sun shades for the driver :)

+Cris FanCars indeed a good question. I ll try to find out more.
+Cris FanCars Hey, official answer is: All new EU6 diesel engines have AdBlue.
Danke für den Test! Was beträgt die Bodenfreiheit? 18,5 cm?
We cant get this in England such a shame , I have tried ordering a 1.4 TSI Caddy Life and VW say it will take 6 months so that's not so good.
Always nice with Thomas 🤙
+A B 👍👍

okay now i think i understand it thx, i knew i came to the right youtube car community :)
+Hundra14Kronor way to go !
The dab-fm raido is very poor on the caddy {built in areal}
Is there no 3rd row seat in the Caddy Alltrack? Thanks

Nice review, but try '04 mazda premacy for back seats space and trunk versability :)
Never heard of this model, but with that big side window and in black paint it could be mistaken as a hearse :)
+tsint LOL
Weird but interesting combination, but I'd love to see an off-road video by you on the Alltrack ;)
Yes I enjoyed this video.

a citroen berlingo or peugeot partner is better in my opinion you should review one of those

Alicia Keys called. She was upset you didn't want to listen to her music.

All clear . French does not have chance : no 4x4 , no Automatic , no ACC, "big" TDI engine....... everything elese is in Tiguan and Touareg.
place for display and climate system is totally failed
exactly... they can put nav down near handbrake... epic fail
Such a nice car!
+Cris FanCars thanks ! It doenst ?
Cristian Anghel
Well done.
Thomas shows its not necessary to consume meat in order to be strong! 💪🏼

Caddy .....
I hate them.
Because Police Loves this car.
For this money you should better get a Van. Caddy makes more Sense as utility vehicle.
Radioaktivify This is my very doubt. I can get a 50.000 Kms Class V fully equipped for this money.
