While in the US Navy, aboard the USS Chicago CG 11, we finished our patrol of the South China Sea and came into the port of Hong Kong for R&R.. We had heard that she caught fire the day before. As we entered port to tie up to our buoy, she was lying on her starboard side. She had been painted white but was now all rusty from the fire and saltwater pump onto her. I now live in Huntington Beach California, and am 10 miles south of Long Beach where her sister ship Queen Mary is Docked as a Hotel. Thank you for sharing Queen Elizabeth leaving New Youk for the last time. 🚢 🚢
Though just a floating Hotel, Elizabeth was always smarter looking than Mary... On another note - imagine the tens of thousands of Soldiers who remember times crammed aboard her only to see her burnt-out and scrapped - another Normandie :(
