@@spaceghost8995 because someone has to say the F word in the locker room and having people with real HC EXP is valuable. Ditka resented Buddy... that worked out pretty well. If we're lucky Ron Rivera might be motivated into taking that role to finally avenge 2006. if someone else offers Ron a HC position I wish him well.
@mattluvsrush Rivera coached 13 seasons. He has only THREE winning seasons and the only reason for that was he had Cam Newton being Superman for a short time. Rivera is basically Jeff Fisher although Fisher coached much longer. As far as "avenging" something , I find that ridiculous. There's nothing to avenge. Lovie Smith fired Rivera and Lovie Smith ISN'T HERE. Coaches get fired or not retained constantly throughout their careers. That's what coaching IS. You know that going in.

Right on Shawn, and I would also add that even if Johnson didn’t want to face Campbell twice a year, HE KNOWS HOW TO BEAT EVERYONE IN THE NFC NORTH. The Lions and their tendencies ge knows, and he’s already shown he can our coach everyone else. If he goes to LV, even if they sign Darnold his first year is a rebuild year.

Coaches under contract cannot make lateral moves to another team. Plus, Aaron Glenn is pursuing a head coaching position, and if that doesn’t pan out, why wouldn’t he just stay in Detroit as the defensive coordinator? Nice thought, but it’s not going to happen.

Well this time they did open the checkbook for a coach so that's not exactly true. I'm more worried about him being a good fit at HC and what he can do with Caleb and the locker room if he gets that big payday.

Why would Johnson minimize his chances of success with the Raiders? His divisional competition against renown coaches, no QB and an owner as bad as ours doesn't appear to be a winning proposition.

I would rather lock in McCarthy, yes Ben looks like a sweet OC but can he head coach? We've been here before, trying to land hot coordinators into HC positions. McCarthy has the QB whispering skills and is a proven winner as well as a HC. 3 straight 12 wins seasons, helped Farve, Rodgers, and Prescott have some of their best seasons under him. I do agree we could use an OC to freshen up his west coast playcalling but the numbers don't lie. Players love McCarthy's coaching style, and thats what Ive seen the Bears locker room asking for the most. My 2 cents.

@ I totally get that. Waiting is a huge gamble, especially since odds are getting higher by the day that New Orleans is gonna try to hire McCarthy.

I’m going to cover this soon, but there is a great track record of first time head coaches succeeding after coordinating an offense that has led the league. It’s pretty interesting and encouraging if Johnson is the choice.

Shawn , if the Bears are truly the favorite to land Ben Johnson I'm happy. The Lions Offense is # 2 in yards / game only behind Monken's Ravens by 13 yards / game. The Lions are # 1 in the NFL scoring Offense. The bad thing is rounding up the coordinators & position coaches but I'm thinking Johnson has already contacted the people in his network - we will see. McCarthy's Cowboys last year in that playoff game against the Packers got destroyed - the game was over before halftime. Not a good look being a favorite at home & LOSING BIG ! Do not want McCarthy for the Bears coach.
The problem w McCarthy is that he doesn’t seem to elevate a team… just does well with good talent… feels like there’s zero upside.
But we’ve been bad for so long…. I want the upside of Johnson and get an experienced guy - even w head coaching experience to run the D and help out with the sea legs…

What’s the difference between Ben J and Matt N? Wasn’t he supposed to be the offensive guru that was in part responsible for Patrick Mahomes? I think he even had Super Bowls under his belt when we got him. These coaches without head coaching experience scare me. I feel like we are just doing a retread.

Stop being so UNINFORMED. Nagy designed NOTHING in KC. Reid called the plays there for probably 95% of the time. You cannot compare Nagy's experience with Johnson's.

F Johnson we need McCarthy or Monken!!! We an experienced head coach not an outstanding OC that might turn out to be a mediocre HC! Even Aaron Glenn would be a better candidate for the Bears but sadly he prefers the Jets.
