  • Waves are all around us. As sound waves move through water and salt, they vibrate into geometric patterns that visualize the nature of waveforms.

Uncovering the geometric nature of soundwaves. This is visualized by directing sound waves through water and salt. The water rests in an upright facing speaker, and the salt rests on a high frequency mechanical wave driver. When the devices are activated with specific frequencies, the water and salt particles vibrate in synchronization with the soundwaves, forming incredible geometric patterns.
Phenomena fuses art and science together to explore naturally occurring patterns, and the fundamental forces of nature that create them, to take us on an ambitious, innovative, and psychedelic journey through the fabric of the universe. Filmmaker Josef Gatti recreates nine ‘phenomena’ to produce mesmerizing art films, which are then paired with an original music score by Kim Moyes from Australian dance music duo The Presets. #PhenomenaTV

Really missed an opportunity to play the sounds that generated the waves.

Unfortunately the patterns are unrelated to the sounds after the intro. Admittedly a conventional song cannot produce such patterns but I would like to hear the drones which produce each one. They should release a companion video with the actual sounds.

Exactly (well almost) what I was about to say. It is possible, though, that some of the sounds are outside our range of hearing.

Waves are the movement of energy. In this case, the music sends energy in sound waves which effect the way the salt and water reacted. With out waves to spread the energy of movement, everything would be silent. Think about how eardrums work. The waved of energy at various frequencies cause your eardrums to vibrate sending signals to your brain and translating it to sounds. Think of the water and salt as big ear drums being effected by the energy. There are infinite possibilities, including sounds that create tyese paterns. It is a great example if the beauty of the very complex world we live in.

Dumb science is when you replace the actual tones causing those patters with a soundtrack. The iview video has no explanation text over the course of video, it's basically a 30 min screen-saver.

Very good! Very well done! Premium voice over and so nice that it is only in the beginning and the rest of the film speaks for itself; wonderful! Very beautiful camera work and lightening and i really like the editing a lot, too. Especially the pattern creation at the end ... mind opening ... no further explanation necessary; thanks so much for creating and sharing this amazingly beautiful and inspiring piece of art! Sensitive choice of music as well ... an overall 10 of 10! Great work! The only thing i personally was missing were some inserts with the information about the frequencies ... but this is me, too much of a perfectionist and back into the 432 Hz studies :)

Very cool. Thoughts effecting reality is the basis of Magick or "the Secret". Dr. Emoto's water experiments supposedly proved that positive words and thoughts create beautiful patterns, while negative words and thoughts create chaotic patterns. The scientific orthodoxy has debunked and discredited his theories. But I personally disagree. These music resonance experiments seem to prove the same thing. Good stuff w good vibes creates trippy patterns. "Noisy" music like most death metal and EDM Hardcore produce chaotic patterns or no pattern at all rather. Keep up the Great Work.
