It's called a Rubens' tube...they've been around for years. The first time I saw one my immediate thoughts were, what a cool thing to have at an outdoor rave. I guess you could mount them between heat resistant glass plates for safety.

And other experiments. This one experiment he used to tones, from two different sources. IIRC, he was saying when the two tones echo off the wall, you get a third tone. What was interesting to me was that third tone. It was the difference of the two tones. EXAMPLE: 1Khz tone and 3Khz tone both reflected off a wall, gives you a 2Khz tone. If he was correct, you could reflect two tones that were out of hearing range, and get back a reflection that was IN HEARING range. Making sounds as if the sound were originating from where the echo was.

@@rolandosauceda1070 Tune your guitar to 432hz instead of 440hz it's just a slightly different feel but noticeable to the trained ear, 432hz is the natural frequency of music. It was changed in the early part of the century, I believe to make people easier to control.
for the vibration and salt demonstration, do you know if the frequencies need to be changed based on the size of the plate? If the plates smaller, will it need more, or less frequency to create the same shape as you would on a larger plate.
Larger plate means larger fundamental wave length means lower fundamental frequencies means all resonant frequencies are shifted towards lower frequencies.
This video is really awesome such simple ways to illustrate the properties of soundwaves. However, I really hope physics teachers don't just show this video. Yes, kids will think it's cool but imagine how much more engaged they'll be if you take these experiments to the next level. e.g. What happens with smaller coke bottles? different sized bottles? What about the Ruben's tube - what happens if you vary the tension on the balloon? How do you make the most lights go out instead of one or two? Why? This is a great resource for science educators.

That's what the (original) RIFE machine is based on - every organism, a bacteria, virus, parasite, etc., has a specific frequency, or set of frequencies, it vibrates at. Heard a story once about how the army tested a sonic defense system in Germany years ago. It could knock out incoming ordinance. Worked better than the designers expected, didn't give it an off switch. They had to really blast the crap out of it, the shock waves finally knocked it over and it lost power.

Anyone cares to explain the moving bottles at 2:51 in detail? My guess is the bottles vibrating stronger and stronger through being stimulated with their resonant frequency and therefore air being pushed around and out of the bottles which creates a force. But thats just a guess and I'd be very interested in finding out more!
