Many thanks for the excellent review and the way you guide novice users like me. BTW, I REGRET so much that I purchased M-Audio Air 192|14. The reason for the regret is that I couldn't get any signal through the the preamps (even though so much buzz about them). I had to turn the input level up to 95% in order to get some sound from relatively good microphones, however, a lot of noise (hisssss) coming to the earphones, so I had to throw it to the loft forever. All 4 inputs were exactly having the same awful response. Line inputs on rear of the box and Hi-Z inputs were comsi-comsa. I purchased it in Germany for EUR 260 and brought it to Turkey started testing it before using. I contacted the seller and he asked me to send it for checking whether the problem was due to the user failure or the production. But, I did not dare the risk of paying extra for shipping on top all. Because post and packaging to Germany was too expensive (more than half the price I paid for it). So never M-Audio in my life! :( ua-cam.com/video/0xkCgWSepPI/v-deo.html

For a simple put together package for the average person that just wants to jam and make random stuff just for the enjoyment, this is enough, if you aspire to become some kind of pro in some audio sphere then yes you will need to get better gear but to start this is fine, not everyone needs the top/high end gear. This will open many doors for you to explore creativity and making your own music, covers or whatever you like. I found this video to be overly harsh.

    • @DarkCornerStudios

I can somewhat agree....but not the headphones...not by a mile.
You can put a package like this together for the same price and have much better equipment also.
The headphones are specifically bad for mixing...you can't have bosted frequencies for that.
      That's not a "pro" thing.
Also...stop accepting "good enough" when buying products.

Cant agree with you on this one. Im not sure why you would recommend something of the same brand in which the buyer loses quality. The duo only supports 16-bit 48khz While the Air supports a massive quality increase at 24-bit / 192 kHz. The mic "resale" value is crap when in the future if you want to upgrade you'd need a new interface as well. If anything the Package deal is almost Future proof. Coming with a M audio nova black that's going to last Just as long as the SM58 until the need for an upgrade (quality wise). The package also comes with a shock mount AND xlr cable (albeit the quality is a different story). Your suggestion is a literal step down when it comes to a better deal. Gotta do better with the information output.

Dark Corner Studios what good is an amazing mic if the interface is stripping the quality. The quality of the SM58 mean zip if it’s stripped to 16bit 48khz. What good is the quality of the M20x’s if the interface loses 2-3 db in output so will struggle more to reach the quality that you praise so much. All I’m saying is as a continent creator do better with your suggestions because the suggested set up is poop when you think about the future. why don't you crank up the gain to 100% if signal level allows for that? Isn't this gain knob just an attenuator of input signal? The preamp always has its design gain, which is it's max gain - I mean the gain of actual gain stage can't be adjusted. So by setting it to 100% you don't hurt the op-amps, you just give it easier signal and get less noise. Am I right? Another point - it could be the pot to be the source of issue - it may have shitty (not audio specific) characteristics and provide most of attenuation in the last 5% (actually the first 5%) of its travel.

Good advice. For entry level, get decent entry level interface like you picked and Shure SM58 with extra foam and pop filter... and any decent headphones... go for the win. The mic and headphones you will keep longer than the interface. Next interface an Audient are next level up. Honestly the $50-$200 interfaces are all about the same quality... though MOTU with better meters are closer the Audient in clean electronics. Other option for people is say a Yamaha mixer with USB out. Plan on the $15 dust cover bat thing. I would avoid Behringer and other “me too” companies. Though Behringer is having some great retro synth/drum machines from the 80s and 90s with analog signal path with the hokey pokey 80s- 90’s programming.. but they look fun. Of course if your looking for live synths/machines... think Roland TR/groove boxes.. but that is a subject for other videos and are far far later than people looking for their first mic/headphone/interface kits... but good pick of amazon $200+ kit.

HI I have the 192|6 and was wondering if I should connect my guitar plug in the front jack or combo in the back, supposedly the combo is for active and front for passive.. the thing is my guitar goes through powered pedals like boss looper and boss space echo, so I don't know if that should go in the front jack or the rear combo as both pedals have volume control. Thanks!

Not sure where that came from, but I generally recommend the preamps on the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 as it is used by many VO actors for the crystal clear sound.
I have NEVER heard the same quality from a Behringer product... And while the M-Audio Air is good, what is your reasoning for calling it better?
As for the M-track, you are talking about very entry level interfaces.
They are more for price than performance vs M-Audio Air and Scarlett.

A lot of youtubers rave and have a lot of good things to say about the M audio Nova mic which comes with this set . Infact there is a comparison where it sounds better than the Rode NT 1 which is worth over $200 .
Please do a fair comparison of the Nova Mic and the sm58 which u suggesting and u can also include others mics to get a proper distinction .
If the Nova mic actually does compare to $200 mics maybe at least with a pop filter then I believe u can change your suggestion to recommending this set because it would be a shame to mislead people just for views but if you honest and non biased you will have much respect even if your judgement was made in error it does really take an honest person to rectify their mistake.after all we all learning together 🙏

Okay so i bought this about a year ago but never set it up due to not having a pc, I have a pc now, basically my question is: after your review, I’m starting to have doubts hooking it up (granted this is my first and only audio equipment I have) but will go through with it regardless. Is this a good/okay beginner set up? I have now knowledge of any of this as I am very new to recording etc. I have used an iRig that connects my guitar to my iPhone where I was able to record and monitor my guitar but that was more for travel I suppose. Also one more thing I’d like some guidance on: I have a nice headset, they are the astros a40 and they come with a mixamp with Dolby audio “yadayada”, my question is, would it be better to use that? And how? Can I connect both the air and my mixamp at the same time and use both for different things? (As in the mixamp for my game/music audio and the air for recording from the nova black it came with) oh and one last thing sorry, for streaming/gaming and recording, based off this review, do you think my headset mic would be better to use over the nova black? Any feedback would be highly appreciated. Also if there is something confusing or something needing clarification please do not hesitate to ask because I know I’m not making much sense lol thanks again!

    • @DarkCornerStudios
      @DarkCornerStudios  3 роки тому +4

      OK...lets start from the top.
This is a decent interface for your computer...yes you should still use it...
You can just replace the mic and headphones later down the road.
The gaming headset wont work with this setup...you will have to run with what you got.
You can only have one interface plugged into a computer at a time...so no...you cant plug both in...
No...your gaming headset WILL NOT sound better than the Nova Black.
A condenser will ALWAYS sound better than a headset mic.
It will be fine for you as a beginner...and as you grow...just replace what you need.
At least the interface is good.
      Cheers and thanks for watching!

How else are you supposed to use them?
Yes, I get they are a stage mic, but they have great adoption and sound quality for studio use.

@@DarkCornerStudios really?? You should use a condenser mic, not a dynamic mic. Of course it works, but you get a ton load of noise. At least put a mic pre-amp in between. Then again, an okay condenser mic isn't that expensive.

@@pjsnijdersmusic So...dont use a dynamic mic due to noise?
I guess if your interface cant drive it...but I have yet to find an interface that cant drive an sm58....
And "ok" condenser mics are more expensive than an sm58.
Instead of getting a mic preamp...why not get a better interface?
      So many thoughts on this...

I might wait for some improvements on the mic and headphones department

What an exceptionally shortsighted and ignorant thing to say to a reviewer.
The very reason this video exists is not for you to confirm the purchase you made, but to inform potential purchasers.
The idea of a review being "picky" is absurd.
Now you can agree or disagree with me and move on, but by no means is it a worthwhile contribution to level something like that at a reviewer.
Stop allowing yourself to think that companies are here to offer you the best quality product at the price that is presented.
This set is easily replaced by products that are backed up by review and testing...and actually have their specs listed online.
Instead of crapping on a reviewer...ask for more from companies that are vying for your money.
