The worse Value Village store. Prices are ridiculous! Lot stuff from SHEIN 3 times more expensive than buying it new. Fake jackets for $699? Extremely ridiculous!
@@vintagesterlingfinds I was just at the Value Village on Victoria today (I haven't been to VV for a year) and it looks like they don't have a lot of higher-end brands (it was 95% GAP, Levi's, Joe Fresh, Zara etc). Last year I found some nice Guess jeans, a Crooks & Castles sweater, and a BAPE jacket all for reasonable prices and in good condition, and yet I didn't see any of those brands on the racks. Wonder if it's just hit or miss, or because of the economy people are just not buying (and therefore not letting go of) more expensive stuff?
Prices are high because people buy to resale i don't blame the store for trying to get a huge profit and because of all this,the thrift stores are unaffordable for people like me who need and use the items and are not reselling them.
Unfortunately a lot of the cost comes from the high costs of business. Most thrift stores have to pay $10,000-$20,000 per month rent. Plus property tax and fees. Not to mention minimum wage her is $17.40 per hour
What thrift stores/haters don't get about reselling- -Resellers access millions of people through eBay, Poshmark, etc. which makes higher prices possible. However, eBay takes 15%. There is storage overhead, packing supplies, office supplies, gas, milage, etc. If something goes wrong and a customer wants a return you have lost all profit. -Most resellers work every long hours and don't make much per hour. -Reselling has a learning curve and cost to learning. -Resellers at one point moved more goods for thrift stores because of volume. A reseller could take a risk on an item but now that item will go to the dump. -amazing finds have always been more rare and are used as click bait on UA-cam. Blaming resellers or inflation for a 200%-1000% increase in prices is crazy. Reseller have been around for many years. These organizations just want more profits for their company or charity. And with people having 10% less real income after covid they realize they can squeeze the average thrifter out of money. It's the thrift stores using google lens. That's pretty steep for what you're getting, they're definitely selling the items for what they're worth maybe even more. Usually books are a few quid max, bashed up hobo shoes shouldn't even be on sale (they should be paying you to wear them) and that timex is not worth 40 bucks especially when you can get a brand new Timex expedition scout for £40-60 from Amazon 😅

I don't thrift a lot but a few days ago I found a Sony Walkman MZ-R30 with all the accessories with travel pouch for £18 and they sell on Ebay for £70-150 without all the accessories. They couldn't tell me if it worked as they were missing the charger but I risked it, found an adapter that fitted and voila it worked perfectly. Yeah we have charity shops that are normally ran people who volunteer so typically they don't know much about certain products. Whereas the bigger thrift shops do tend to know their products, probably why they're successful, they leave nothing to chance 😂

I went to goodwipp today and the cashier changed the prices of my items, she tripled the price! I go why she says its brand name, lol really? I told her to keep her garabge and left. She said it was proced wrong, i go thats not my fault
