Every time do first anticlockwise and than clockwise???
thanks , i always mess up with this date setting in automatic watch ,i had to go to watch repairer to set it ... u showed me the correct way to set it. thanks .
I do that as well. I go to time.is/cst to get an accurate time to the second. I set it to to the next minute with the second hand at the 12 position and watch this clock on the site. As soon as it hits 00 and I click her in and let it ride
Could you simply keep turning the minutes hand many times to change the date (several days even), instead of using the date change mechanism? Would this be safe and acceptable?
+Armando Andrés Meabe It's not recommended to change the date while the mechanism is working on it, so around midnight, because that might cause some malfunction and potentially ruin the mechanism.
nobody knows, because there's no mention in the users manual about such thing. It's the most spread mechanical myth. It probably was bad for watches in the 40's but I don't think that's an issue anymore. You can ask a watchmaker, they know better.
If I only wear an automatic watch once a week, is there anything I should do when the watch is not in use? I was also wondering if there is a way to keep the time and date correct during the 6 days I'm not wearing it (without a watch winder of course)? For instance, giving it several gentle shakes each day or?...
Are Omega watches supposed to change the date EXACTLY at 12 midnight? (change the date = immediate jump from one day to the other). I know the overall process starts around 11:30, but mine changed before 12 AM (like 11:55) and I want to know whether i might have damaged the date. I have a Seamaster Aqua Terra caliber 8900
My watch changes the date around 1am every night. I, tried to change it myself to make it correct but no result. It is still changing the date around 1 am in night instead of changing at 12:00 (midnight). Can someone suggest something to mend it?
too complicated, an easier way I saw in another video. set the hour hand at 6 pm/am you don't know, make sure the date is one day before the actual date. Then starting winding the minute hand forward (clockwise)till you get the time(am or pm) and date you want.
I noticed on my new automatic watch that the date changed at around 11:55pm and the date of the week didn't change till after 1:15am the next day. Is this normal or is my watch defective? I followed the instruction very thoroughly especially not to change the date within the remark time (8pm-4am) but that still happened consistently
That's completely normal every watch is different some change right at 12 others like my seikos usually change the day of the month at midnight then the day of the week changes around 3 or 4 am
What I do to set the date & time is this: Firstly I set the Time to 12.. Then set the date 1 day back to the actual date.. then I whined the time all the way round until the date clicks into the correct date. Then set the time accordingly.. This works for me & keeps perfect date.. when I wake up the next day the watch is always correct.. I hope this way is ok.. 🙈 PS: I do this roughly between 8am - 10am
Not setting the date when the watch is close to midnight really only matters for watches with a Valjoux 7750 chronograph movement as it can damage them. I suppose it's good practice anyway
I would read the manual that came with the watch. I have a Damasko DK-10 and it specifically states to not to adjust the time when it is between 9pm to 3am. On my Rolex that I've had since 1976 I adjust it with any worry about the time if the day.
Yes, it does have a problem if it is an analog quartz watch because the date changing mechanism is the same regardless of it is a quartz or a mechanical watch. Of course if it is a digital quartz watch, then it doesn't matter.
In almost every ETA based watches, the manual in the box says you can wind it manually about 30 times without any problem. No mention about "backwards" adjusting, so I guess they know better than all theese youtube myths. But hey, a man must make a dollar..
this really helped me out. I almost threw a watch in the garage because I thought it was not working anymore. thanks
Give it to me so I don't have to steal it from you
You should never go backwards, it also harms it. When you passed 5 pm, you should re start the process
There is some debate on this topic, mainly from people who aren't watch makers, lol. It's fine to go backwards.

The manual of my Rolex literally says you can set it by turning in either direction.
This summed up what several forum posts could not

Same here but with my Rolex Rainbow.

I've got a question: can all mechanical watches (such as the skx007) change the time?
Can u do a video on ur watch collection?
Some day I will.
Very helpful video. Being as I just got an Omega Speedmaster triple date I have been having a rather hard time getting the date set.
this was helpful
thanks for the video! would you please tell me what would be the problem in setting the date about 1am?

I go a little further when setting the time more accurately. I wait for the second hand to get to 12:00 then set the time.
You mean you want to wait until its 12 am
You didn't sync it exactly?

Thanks for the video. I love Casio digital watches.
This is the way to set the date on a watch which has a quick set date mechanism. Lots of older watches do not have this mechanism.

isnt it way better to set the day before and then set the time, and let the they you want spring in ?
No, because if the time is before midnight, the date will change as you begin to set the time.

Thanks.
how does the watch know what month it is though? not every month has 31 days
Some watches do but mostly you just manually adjust the date as needed.
how we can reves the date

Thank you for this comment, I always come back to this video to find this exact comment every time I set the date on a new watch.

Who cares
You've got hacking seconds. Don't you care? You should hack the second hand at 12 and set your watch on the hour, using your computer as a reference.
Bob Schaaf
I've seen that term being used with IWC watches can you tell me what are hacking seconds ?
I believe it means hands that stop when you pull the crown out.
When you pull out the crown the second hand stops so you can precise set the time. It's hacking.
