- At one point, DJ Uiagalelei was a five star recruit and the future of Clemson football. After a hot start, he fizzled out and lost all his draft hype in the process. Now, he will transfer across the country to Oregon State and will try and save his career. Today, we will talk about the rise, fall and rebirth of DJ Uiagalelei, enjoy!

He is probably with the most well suited coach in the NCAA for him. Jonathan Smith was a quarterback at OSU and played under Dennis Erickson and Mike Riley in pro style offenses. Oregon State's offense is still very close to a pro style but with some added flare at times. Oregon State's system seems to be perfect for him. He won't have to do it all for the Beavs and will have a chance to just play to his strengths while enjoying an offensive line and running game that just might be the best in the PAC 12. He made a fabulous choice. So far. He does still have to perform but there will not be so much pressure, and all he needs to do is be a great game manager and use his skills where they are needed and not have to be "the guy" who's shoulders the entire game depends upon. I predict barring injury in general for this team, they have the potential to win the PAC 12 North and play in the title game. And if they do get there, that will mean DJ has finally lived up to the hype he came to the NCAA with. And seriously don't underestimate Oregon State this year like the Ducks did last year. Oregon States only 3 losses last year were all to ranked teams losing to USC by 3, Washington by 3, but got blown out by in Utah. This could be a fun year in the final year of the PAC 12 and how much of a "stick in your face" this would be for the unwanted team, OSU, to win it.

Dabo Swinney didn't embrace the transfer portal or NIL and that is the real problem at Clemson. In return, Clemson lacks elite speed and talent at the skilled positions, which has been a staple Clemson for many years. DJ's a great college qb and I wish him well.

Jonathan Smith is really good with QBs and usually gets the most out of them. I’m curious about Oregon States receivers this year and wonder if they’re good enough to make DJ look good. One thing Oregon State seemed to be bad at was the QB position extending plays. DJ should solve that problem. Even though I’m a Washington Husky fan I have a soft spot for the Oregon State Beavers because they seem to do a lot with under the radar players and Jonathan Smith is a really good coach. I wish the Beavers and DJ all the luck….Except against Washington. They can come in second as much as they want lol.
DJ Uiagalelei is a soft, entitled player who has no chance to beat Oregon in Autzen in 2023. Thanks for the love from UW even though O State fans would prefer a premature death to supporting that team.
I think it's hard for his confidence level to stay up. He tries to be a mellow QB but you can't be a mellow QB. His confidence takes a big hit when he makes a mistake and it shows for a while until he can make a number of good plays to get it back up. I think he will be better at Oregon State and being closer to home but how much better, that's uncertain currently.
He sucked in the worst way. He had 5 three and outs against the Huskies. Connecticut
not Washington, at home.

Oregon St has two quarterbacks that are better than DJ. He will be on a Greyhound back to South Carolina by mid season. I’m worried about the entire future of Oregon St football. Where the hell are they going to go?

I’m a Clemson fan and I pulled for DJ until I just couldn’t no more. The South Carolina loss pushed it over the edge for me. Then his few plays against North Carolina in the ACC Championship Game was dreadful. His pocket awareness is awful. He looks like a statue standing in the pocket. I wish him nothing but the best though. Go Tigers!

Streeter RUINED him! That kid wouldve been better off going somewhere else. Dabo screwed the Tigers for 2 yrs by giving streeter the keys to the lambo with no drivers license and never driving before and he crashed out the gate!
No he didn't. DJ made slow & poor decisions on RPOs and tended to "pitch" the ball instead throwing it with touch on screens or slants.
He wanted to throw downfield more but was missing on short passes and screens. He also constantly failed to audible out of plays or change protections feeling he could strong-arm passes even if he got hit. Every QB before him (even Chase Brice) did that well...he just didn't.
While he had the misfortune of OC changes.... (First year he had Elliott and Scott. Next year was Elliott himself and the Streeter. ) he never mentally recovered from that UGA game. We wasted a Championship Defense that year with poor QB play.
Haven't seen a player bust as hard as DJ at the FBS level.
Regressed every year at Clemson, watched every game as a Clemson fan. Was obvious boosters supported him with some Pre-NIL sandwiches because Dabo wouldn't bench him no matter what.

He actually got better this past season. His first year as the starter was horrible. Had more interceptions than touchdowns. That number greatly improved this past season but definitely not where he should have been.
Also Dabo didn't really have a choice. Clemson didn't have anybody better than DJ. Cade looked bad whenever he was on the field outside of the North Carolina and Tennessee game. Struggled against Furman, LA Tech, and Notre Dame. You could mention Syracuse as well but his legs allowed Shipley to explode and ultimately his mobility won the game.

If DJ does not make it far in Oregon State then he busted. I would have thought he would have gone to a smaller school because the pressure at Clemson was too much for him.

Can't save something that's dead. 5 wins tops for my Beavers. There's no way they can have motivation going into the season. Most that coaching staff is gone the second the season ends, Smith included. Every player with potential is hitting the portal ASAP. Their opponents, they won't be seeing them again. The season is pointless for them. As for DJ, he's shown in camp he's head and shoulders above the other QBs. He'll play better than he did at Clemson, but for naught, as no one will be invested by September.
