  • If you’re stepping into the realms of more professional podcasting and you’re confused as to what microphone will work best for you, I’d like to introduce you to one you should be considering.
    I know we see videos all day long with the famous Shure SM7B as the “go to” microphone to use for professional podcasters, but I’m going to go out on a limb here and say, I think there’s another player that should be in the ring. The sE Dynacaster DCM8.
    sE is a family-owned business that was founded by Siwei Zo. He studied Composition at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, and became a successful conductor and composer. Visiting California on a scholarship, Siwei then found an opportunity to merge his musical knowledge with his love for design. He began building condenser microphones under his own brand name, “sE” which is a homage to the art of sound engineering. In just over 20 years of designing and building microphones, the brand has established itself as makers of precision tools for artists, by artists.
    As a musician myself, this kind of “origin story” resonates with me, and I’ve been using sE microphones as a vocalist for over a decade, so I was eager to hear what they could do for podcasters.

      It is my absolute favourite microphone right now. Such a good price point too! I just recorded a battle today where I vs the DCM8 to the Shure SM7B and that had interesting results! That one is coming soon.

    Hi :) Nice video! What Mic EQ settings were set, when you recorded this video? I think your voice sounds really good with this mic.

      Why thank you! We don't do any post-production EQing in our review videos for microphones. So what you're hearing here is exactly what the microphone sounds like. We applied a bit of compression and a limiter, but no EQ. It's definitely a really beautiful sounding microphone and my favourite I've reviewed so far for podcasters.

      @@bambymedia airwolf probably meant the EQ switches on the back of the microphone itself.
      The Dyncaster has 2 EQ switches with 3 possible settings each, resulting in 9 possible combinations total.

    Can you do a mic battle between sE Dynacaster vs Podmic USB vs Shure MV7 vs Rode NT USB? You seem to own all of them and they are also similarly priced. Very good content by the way. Very helpful!

      Oooo I can totally do that. I'll put that on the "to record" list. I've got some fun battles coming up.

      Oh I'm glad you like the DCM8. It is absolutely my "go-to" in the studio here for sure. Gives me a nice bit of sparkle doesn't it! Thanks for commenting.

    is it much better than the podmic usb in your opinion or just a minor difference in sound quality?

    • @bambymedia
      @bambymedia  3 місяці тому +2

      It far exceeds the podmic in sound quality for sure. I've been using it now for months, and I also recently put it up against some other heavyweights, and I keep coming back to it. The depth in the sound is unmatched in this price range (and a lot higher too). I'm in love with it personally.

    Dynamic mic requires phantom power?🤔

    • @bambymedia
      @bambymedia  3 місяці тому

      You’re right that traditionally dynamic mics don’t require 48v but the DCM8 has an inbuilt extra 30db of boost thanks to the dynamite inside , which is where the 48v power is required. 👍🏻 it’s the nicest sounding mic I’ve heard in awhile for podcasters. I’m really enjoying it.
