Now this is the sort of review I respect. No one else gives you the basic audio. Yes, to me it sounds very good. I'm a beginner with a Fulaim X5 which serves me well. It's very position dependent and best hand held in front of my mouth but that's far from convenient. Other reviews don't comment on the Shure's near irrelevance of its windmuffs and certainly don't try it outside in a windy setting. Thanks

Absolutely amazing review dude. Loved every minute of it! Shure has be held to a higher standard as one of the most (if not most) legendary microphone manufacturers out there. Hahaha I'm surprised anyone made it all the way through! Yep, I'm with ya. Still love their other/older gear, but I'm not feeling this new direction and hope the next iterations are better than this. And yeah that's been a huge pet peeve over the years. It makes shopping for gear really hard when people are cleaning up the raw signal in post - makes it almost impossible to know what you're actually getting. I really wanted this mic, but you and some other UA-camrs had feedback like this. I guess I will wait to see if Shure makes a new version or a competitor makes something better in the future. Btw, I appreciate the rant, companies like Shure are name brands and should be help to a higher standard .

I couldn’t find a solution until I started seeing the reviews for the Shure set. Hmm why a headset? Are you going to be live/on stage? If not I might have some other mics I've reviewed on my channel that would be worth checking out for what you're doing! If portability/wear-ability is a must then you might get some great mileage out of the Sennheiser ME3. For a handheld mic, check out the BietrunPro YXM09 I recently reviewed as well. If you're wanting to get into VO work though then gravitating towards a condenser or dynamic mic will benefit you way more

Firstly, I enjoyed your honesty. However, I also enjoy the unprocessed sound of the Shure. The modern proclivity for over-hyped high frequencies annoys me because I think it prevents us learning to love the sound of our actual voices rather than the voices we wish we had, or could gain with a bit of honest effort. However, I certainly take your point on build quality and flexibility. I'd tend to choose a Countryman lapel mic if I wanted to go high-end, though. I also have to say that I appreciate your pointing out sets which dont' rely on some phone app. As a blind user it is irksome to be forced to eliminate good options because the essential companion apps have not been made with universal design in mind. I have every confidence that I will find interesting material in your other videos.

yep sound quality of top and bottom end is massively scooped. I can hear it now. You saved me a bundle. Would be great if you could connect alternative mic capsules to those little things. I wonder if its the "semi waterproof" aspect that makes them sound shite....maybe if the mics werent behind some water firewall they would sound clearer...id sure sacrifice the "waterproof" feature for better sounding mics! and the price is just ..well...youre spot on it should be basicially half the price
They're not actually semi-waterproof. They're just made of plastic which makes them mostly safe if you splash some water on them. If you own a camera, it's the same level of waterproof. Sure a camera can get rained on and *probably* be fine. But drop them in water and they'll die, just like any other piece of gear (I tried lmao). So I don't think it's that. They're just cheaply made
Interesting sound samples! But a strangely vitriolic and hateful video... Also filled with inaccuracies. YES the Movemic lapels have a mute button. NO I also did not require 'firmware upgrade' on any of the units I have used. YES it is expensive, just like an SM7B is expensive. There are cheaper non-brand-name alternatives to both. The MoveMic alternatives are significantly larger. The alternatives do not connect directly to phone. The alternatives are not IPX4 rated. The alternatives do not have the same battery life. And perhaps most importantly, many of the alternatives you have described here are transmitters to plug lapels into, not lapels themselves. These are non-equivalents. Price point discussions are interesting, there will always be a race to the bottom from questionable brands that no one has heard of. But if you want to compare apples with apples, can we see a shootout of UHF vs UHF systems? I suggest the SLXD5 + SLXD1 or ADX5D + ADX1M against the Comica ?

If you have em, can afford em, then hell yeah So disliking something/being critical/holding companies to a higher standard =/= vitriol or hate. The Last Airbender sucked. I don't hate Shyamalan, he just made a bad movie. Same deal here. There are some broad, future of the industry sort of critiques here that brand-loyal "But it's Shure though!" people don't seem to want to talk about. You can be critical of things without hating them. I usually don't like responding with "Ummm, BUT" when I make mistakes, but... BUT: Mute: I didn't mention that Firmware: There was a day one update: www.shure.com/en-US/support/downloads/software-firmware-archive/movemic-lavalier which came out on March 4th. Size: So this is an interesting one. And what's funny is, no one but nerds and gear guys care. As long as you sound good, the average viewer couldn't care less/won't notice what mic you have strapped to you. Content is king, and sound quality is king. That's why I always make sound quality the main focus of my reviews. I would hot glue a cinder block to my chest if it sounded better lol. And if you know what you're doing, you can hide any mic anyway regardless of size. So yeah, the movemics are small, but so is Hollyland, so is that cheap chinese Literal Who brand I just made a video on. I definitely want wireless systems to keep getting smaller but it's just really not important for online content creation - no one cares but us, and it's another marketing distraction from the sound quality being so average in the case of the movemic. And I definitely will not praise the size, when it comes at the expense of sound quality. Direct to phone: I literally just reviewed a system that connects to phone via bluetooth, this isn't unique. You also don't need a first-party app with that one IPX4: Is not a selling point; it just means you can splash a little water on it and it'll probably be okay. Just like anything else made of plastic, with or without the rating. Definitely don't let these mics get too wet :) Battery life: It's totally fine like I mentioned. But six hours isn't anything crazy and is pretty normal. In fact the movemic was actually second from the bottom just out of the ones I compared it to in this video. The receiver is crazy long though yeah. Thing is, once you get past like five hours of battery life that just kind of stops being important lol "are transmitters to plug lapels into": The WM300 yes, but the Ulanzi, Moman, and unnamed generic POS, no. So by "many", you mean 1/4. The point there was that the TXs on those are solid-sounding enough on their own while *also* giving you the option to use your own lapel mic. It gives the consumer more options. The entire critique there is that removing basic, standard features like that and then charging more for it shouldn't be something consumers just roll over and take or try to rationalize out of brand loyalty. And for that shootout you asked for: Haha I mean hell yeah, if you have a spare $8k+ to burn let's do it! But really, that wouldn't be helpful to the average UA-cam Andy who only has a hundred bucks at their disposal to invest in their first mic - and that's what I like talking about :) That just sounds boring honestly. I like reviewing things that people can actually get their hands on and won't have to try to justify why they got it due to the price.
I got some no name USBC lav mic that comes with 2 wireless lav mics and the receiver for $20 on a sale.. I had to buy 2 and it has been great.. I'm mean its not DJI or Rhode or anything but it's pretty damn good for what it cost.. keep your eyes out you never know when you will find that one nice product in the sea of trash out there!!

Newer ones like the Tascam Portacapture X6 and the Zoom Essentials are 32-bit float as well so if you've got the budget, they might make your life way easier
I just bought the Ulanzi AM18 for only 76 dollars. It has a receiver and two wireless mics and even comes with accessories. It even fits in a hot shoe. Brilliant.
I agree that the price is high. I disagree that this is aimed at beginners, and the high price is an indicator. This is being marketed as a highly mobile professional wireless audio solution. The cost is justified by how small, light weight, and compact the mic + transmitter is. You clip on a 2x2 inch brick to your shirt and say it's better because it's a lot cheaper - I'd wager a lot of professionals would pay more for a discreet mic. You compare cheap lapel mics that are wired to the fully wireless all-in-one shure mic and don't include the transmitters in the picture. Again, I'd wager that professionals in the field would rather have the ease of clipping on a fully wireless mic to talent, rather than having to put on a bodypack + wired lapel mic. The 2 channel high quality bluetooth audio direct to phone is underrated. Until BLE audio is standardized, proprietary solutions are the only way around it. Once BLE audio is available native to iphone and android, a firmware update will enable this mic to be used with any app. Now, Shure is best known for it's durability and RF reliability. I haven't seen anyone dare to do a drop test or crush test with this mic yet. It's claim is IPX4, so I'd also be interested in some light water testing. I'd also be curious to see how this holds up to cheap wireless mics in an RF congested scenario like on a convention floor with lots of 2.4ghz traffic.
I'll do a water/drop/crush test. If it survives, then I'll give away the kit :) I'll shout ya out for bringing it up! For the marketing, since most of their demos are of them comparing literal phone audio to processed movemic audio - it's hard for me to say that it's marketed to professionals. It's being marketed to youtubers and tiktokers with disposable income lol. Which is fine, plenty of mics do. And also I'm completely with you on everything, you're totally right, 100%. BUT, the problem all boils down to sound quality. Yes, as a professional, I will stick with my current setup for ads, until a design like this is able to deliver the same fidelity sound as similarly priced gear like the Sanken Cos 11D - there's a reason equipment like that is still standard. The movemic just isn't even close in terms of sound to price - and... it's a microphone - that's it's one and only job. The reason I compared it to weird aftermarket chinese knockoff mics is because they sound better. We can throw all the bells, whistles, features and talking points around we want but when it comes down to being out in the field, sound quality will always be the #1 priority :) Maybe I'm just lazy and don't like spending all the time in post cleaning up the signal. Until this type of design can deliver fidelity worth what they're selling it for, the extra 15-30 seconds it might take to plug in and hide a lapel mic to a wireless transmitter will be worth it. This thing is a really great idea, but it just needs some more iterations to be worth using seriously. When that happens, I will be all over it and I probably won't shut up about how awesome it is. All my whining aside, I genuinely can't wait to see this design evolve and improve in the future. Some day this type of gear will sound indistinguishable from the current standards and will replace them and going back to your whole point here, yeah that will be all be huge. It just can't all come at the expense of quality, like it does here. Hope that makes sense! And IPX4 such a non-feature I didn't even think it was worth mentioning in the video lol. IPX4 just means you can splash water on it/sweat on it and it'll be okay (for anyone reading this thread). Anything with a sealed plastic or metal shell is, with or without the certification, a similar level of "waterproof".

Watched it all;) Very interesting and some good points. That $20 wireless lav is the most stark of the comparisons since it's the closest to what the MoveMic is. I'm going to keep using the MoveMic with my upcoming videos and see if that buzz/hum/ringing sound keeps rearing its ugly head. If it does, I would expect a firmware update but if it's a shielding issue then of course that's a much bigger issue and would be a deal breaker...for me lol. The deal is clearly already broken for you ;)

The generic $20 mic started out as a joke at first but ended up staying in lol And oh yeah, I'm gonna use it too, mostly just because well, I have it now - so might as well. It *is* a decent little mic for non-serious projects. The tone is fixable in post, but I'm only willing to do that because I didn't pay for it. It does come and go, so there are clean takes without it. Either it's a firmware thing like you're saying or it's a QA issue where not all units have it. Even if it's patched though, yeah, still can't recommend. It would still be too expensive for what it is, that's the main thing, since all-round better systems exist for 1/4th of the cost.

Im convinced against the movemic but I busted the lightning port on my iPhone and I really want a wireless mic that I can use to film with my phone on the go. I can’t connect anything into my lightning port, so it seems like the movemic is my only option for convenient, at the ready video recording

I don't have it, so definitely take this with a massive grain of salt - but from what I've listened to, I think it sounds great. If 32-bit float is important to your workflow then that's the only thing I think would be missing. ~250 is super fair for the sound I've heard from them, especially since getting two lapels included is only an extra ~20 bucks

Haha hey I don't want to make anyone's decisions for them, that's not the point of these videos! Thanks for tuning in! Yeah the WM300 is bulky - I'm just used to it. Sometimes I ditch the case and just toss one RX/TX/mic in a pocket and go. They have a smaller BoomX-D2 system or their Vimo series, but I haven't tried it yet so I can't speak on the quality outside of demos I've listened to. Otherwise there's just a whole world of other options out there!
I really like the $20 and comica sound quality best. Do you have any in depth comparisons based around the comica? Also have you tried the ulanzi j12? Or only the am18 you've mentioned? The j12 is half the price.
If you don't mind adding the bulk to your setup, I love my Comica WM300 system. Otherwise, the usual suspects of Hollyland and DJI are safe bets, or the Ulanzi system I showed here paired with literally any lapels of your choice. Don't overthink it, get what you can afford :)

So lav mics are more-so designed for interview-style filmmaking, not at all for music. I definitely would advise against shopping for one for that. Not sure where/what environment/context you want to record in, or what type of guitar (acoustic?); but I would look instead for a little handheld vocal mic, like the Marengo I reviewed a while ago (can be plugged into your camera ua-cam.com/video/QEfSqAz3e9Q/v-deo.html). Best case scenario, would be a field recorder with two inputs, and two dynamic mics, one pointed at your guitar, one up to your mouth. You could get a Zoom H4n Pro (amzn.to/4cOKgJZ) and two dynamic mics, for like $220/250 total and have some great results. Cheaper still, even a single zoom h1 would be 'good enough' and better than a lav mic for recording guitar/vocals

Zoom h1 on the low end, and a tascam portacapture x6 on the same price point as this shure here would do the trick for ya! Field recorders have way better preamps than cameras so that's why I'm fixating on suggesting one lol. Lower noise floor and better quality is a good streamline in the long-run Good luck dude!

I like the raw honesty, but i don't know if it's fair to compare these so directly to bulkier systems using separate lavs, be that a more traditional UHF system like the Comica, or the more modern wifi-based systems like the Rode Go, DJI Mic, etc. I see these as more of a direct competitor to what I think of as "micro-transmitter" systems, like the PicoMic or the newer Hollyland with the small round transmitters. The intended use case for these are similar, and probably overlap for many users, but are still not the same; I see these as intended for situations where you need a fast clip-on setup but can't have the weight/bulk of the larger systems weighing down a collar or shirt pocket (which most of the wifi-based systems do), and definitely can't be faffing with running a lav wire to a belt or pants pocket. I'm interested in the Shures, or more likely the second or third generation of them, as replacements for my PicoMic system, although it will take markedly better range and/or internal back-up recording to motivate the spend.
So the reason I deliberately chose to compare it to those systems is kind of a black and white, boomer thing. It's a microphone, and it's sound quality is it's one and only job, above anything else in the world. It's still just a mic at the end of the day and when I'm working, the best sounding thing is what I take with me. The point was just "hey, here's a mic for 1/5th of the price that sounds better". Even though what you're saying is totally valid, I saw that kind of comment coming because it's totally fair lol. It's just not where my priorities are, if that makes sense. But for real though, yes. That's exactly where I'm at! Something I totally neglected to mention in the video is that I am actually excited to see this type of design be refined in the near future. I'll gladly shell out the asking price for something like this if it can keep up with my current setup. Just not there yet is all
I've seen a bunch of polar opposite reviews. Either they love or hate it. I do agree it's overpriced but I do like it's form factor. I own high quality uhf wireless lav mic system, but I'd like to add a clip on mic for situations where easy of use is more of a factor. The biggest downside of traditional lav is concealing the mic under the shirt especially if it's a woman. Then you need to deal with clothing rustle. So clip on has that appeal. When you compare the size of other clipon mic especially the Rode this does seem nice. With all that said I don't own it.
I figured things would balance out once more reviews rolled in. I don't hate it by any means, it's just hard to recommend to anyone that isn't rich if that makes sense lol. The form factor is really cool, and you know there will be tons of designs inspired by this in the near future, hopefully with sound quality that actually make them worth having. That's sort of the main issue here, is that the sound on it's own is just not good enough to replace anyone's existing setup. I've actually taken the movemic out for an ad shoot recently. Clothing rustle was as bad as if not worse than my usual setup, wind noise as well, since you can't hide these under clothes on windy days. It was nice to just be able to clip it on and go - but it was not nice having to reshoot the scene because the sound quality was just not good and I didn't want to process the signal to hell to make it sound good. Switched to my old setup and did a one and done. It's a GREAT idea, but the sound is just not there yet. Will be in the near future though I'm sure!

It actually comes with two good lapel mics already :) I would use them first before thinking about getting new ones. And it does not come with a lightning adapter no, I don't have an iphone so I don't really watch out for good options for that. So I don't really have any good iPhone-compatible recommendations unfortunately!
Yep! Actually happens on all receiver presets and regardless of gain, and it's more front and center, ironically, with noise suppression on. Present when connected to a Zoom H1, three different cameras and through my SSL 2 - but it's not present when connected via bluetooth to my phone, without the receiver - which leads me to believe it's a receiver issue

Sound quality is higher than competition, Shure is an established pro sound brand, and even $500 has been the lowest price for a pro wireless lav mic, so you’re a little off with this review. Check out Curtis Judd’s one if you’re interested in a sound pro’s take on it.
Already saw it, it's a great video :) And hey, if you can afford it - go for it! Be prepared to spend time in post cleaning it up though - as someone who owns four of these mics - not on loan. The sound you're hearing here is what you'll be working with. Zero work in post has been done in this video, that's the whole point here. If you have the disposable income though then there's no reason not to pick them up. All comes down to what you value in your own gear and your own workflow. Ya might love em. Shure are known for shit like this, e.g. they released an "update" to their SE846 earphone model (costing 1kUSD), this update consists of literally one thing - of a pair of filters which cost single digit USD to make (and I'm being generous and charitable here). These filters can be bought as an accessory and they retail for about 30USD and... can be used with SE845 v1... but you can't buy these filters if own v1, they only sell them if you can prove that you own v2. They literally want you spend another 1k USD to see how much improvement that 30USD filter makes. Bunch of w⚓s

Now this is the sort of review I respect. No one else gives you the basic audio. Yes, to me it sounds very good. I'm a beginner with a Fulaim X5 which serves me well. It's very position dependent and best hand held in front of my mouth but that's far from convenient.
Other reviews don't comment on the Shure's near irrelevance of its windmuffs and certainly don't try it outside in a windy setting.

This is a good microphone, but only if it were about half the current price or less. Definitely would not be a big jump from what you're using right now, most likely - and that's kind of the whole point of this video I guess :)

Yep, I'm with ya. Still love their other/older gear, but I'm not feeling this new direction and hope the next iterations are better than this.
And yeah that's been a huge pet peeve over the years. It makes shopping for gear really hard when people are cleaning up the raw signal in post - makes it almost impossible to know what you're actually getting. I've been guilty as hell of that too in my older reviews.

Hmm why a headset? Are you going to be live/on stage? If not I might have some other mics I've reviewed on my channel that would be worth checking out for what you're doing! If portability/wear-ability is a must then you might get some great mileage out of the Sennheiser ME3. For a handheld mic, check out the BietrunPro YXM09 I recently reviewed as well. If you're wanting to get into VO work though then gravitating towards a condenser or dynamic mic will benefit you way more

Firstly, I enjoyed your honesty. However, I also enjoy the unprocessed sound of the Shure. The modern proclivity for over-hyped high frequencies annoys me because I think it prevents us learning to love the sound of our actual voices rather than the voices we wish we had, or could gain with a bit of honest effort. However, I certainly take your point on build quality and flexibility. I'd tend to choose a Countryman lapel mic if I wanted to go high-end, though. I also have to say that I appreciate your pointing out sets which dont' rely on some phone app. As a blind user it is irksome to be forced to eliminate good options because the essential companion apps have not been made with universal design in mind. I have every confidence that I will find interesting material in your other videos.
Yeah totally, there's a niche for the way it sounds! If I ignore the price and other critiques I have, and just think about the sound in a vacuum; I'm with you, I like it.

yep sound quality of top and bottom end is massively scooped. I can hear it now. You saved me a bundle. Would be great if you could connect alternative mic capsules to those little things. I wonder if its the "semi waterproof" aspect that makes them sound shite....maybe if the mics werent behind some water firewall they would sound clearer...id sure sacrifice the "waterproof" feature for better sounding mics! and the price is just ..well...youre spot on it should be basicially half the price
They're not actually semi-waterproof. They're just made of plastic which makes them mostly safe if you splash some water on them. If you own a camera, it's the same level of waterproof. Sure a camera can get rained on and *probably* be fine. But drop them in water and they'll die, just like any other piece of gear (I tried lmao). So I don't think it's that. They're just cheaply made
Interesting sound samples! But a strangely vitriolic and hateful video... Also filled with inaccuracies. YES the Movemic lapels have a mute button. NO I also did not require 'firmware upgrade' on any of the units I have used. YES it is expensive, just like an SM7B is expensive. There are cheaper non-brand-name alternatives to both. The MoveMic alternatives are significantly larger. The alternatives do not connect directly to phone. The alternatives are not IPX4 rated. The alternatives do not have the same battery life. And perhaps most importantly, many of the alternatives you have described here are transmitters to plug lapels into, not lapels themselves. These are non-equivalents. Price point discussions are interesting, there will always be a race to the bottom from questionable brands that no one has heard of. But if you want to compare apples with apples, can we see a shootout of UHF vs UHF systems? I suggest the SLXD5 + SLXD1 or ADX5D + ADX1M against the Comica ?

The Last Airbender sucked. I don't hate Shyamalan, he just made a bad movie. Same deal here. There are some broad, future of the industry sort of critiques here that brand-loyal "But it's Shure though!" people don't seem to want to talk about. You can be critical of things without hating them.
I usually don't like responding with "Ummm, BUT" when I make mistakes, but... BUT:

Size: So this is an interesting one. And what's funny is, no one but nerds and gear guys care. As long as you sound good, the average viewer couldn't care less/won't notice what mic you have strapped to you. Content is king, and sound quality is king. That's why I always make sound quality the main focus of my reviews. I would hot glue a cinder block to my chest if it sounded better lol. And if you know what you're doing, you can hide any mic anyway regardless of size. So yeah, the movemics are small, but so is Hollyland, so is that cheap chinese Literal Who brand I just made a video on. I definitely want wireless systems to keep getting smaller but it's just really not important for online content creation - no one cares but us, and it's another marketing distraction from the sound quality being so average in the case of the movemic. And I definitely will not praise the size, when it comes at the expense of sound quality.
Direct to phone: I literally just reviewed a system that connects to phone via bluetooth, this isn't unique. You also don't need a first-party app with that one
IPX4: Is not a selling point; it just means you can splash a little water on it and it'll probably be okay. Just like anything else made of plastic, with or without the rating. Definitely don't let these mics get too wet :)
Battery life: It's totally fine like I mentioned. But six hours isn't anything crazy and is pretty normal. In fact the movemic was actually second from the bottom just out of the ones I compared it to in this video. The receiver is crazy long though yeah. Thing is, once you get past like five hours of battery life that just kind of stops being important lol
"are transmitters to plug lapels into": The WM300 yes, but the Ulanzi, Moman, and unnamed generic POS, no. So by "many", you mean 1/4. The point there was that the TXs on those are solid-sounding enough on their own while *also* giving you the option to use your own lapel mic. It gives the consumer more options. The entire critique there is that removing basic, standard features like that and then charging more for it shouldn't be something consumers just roll over and take or try to rationalize out of brand loyalty.
And for that shootout you asked for: Haha I mean hell yeah, if you have a spare $8k+ to burn let's do it! But really, that wouldn't be helpful to the average UA-cam Andy who only has a hundred bucks at their disposal to invest in their first mic - and that's what I like talking about :) That just sounds boring honestly. I like reviewing things that people can actually get their hands on and won't have to try to justify why they got it due to the price.
I got some no name USBC lav mic that comes with 2 wireless lav mics and the receiver for $20 on a sale.. I had to buy 2 and it has been great.. I'm mean its not DJI or Rhode or anything but it's pretty damn good for what it cost.. keep your eyes out you never know when you will find that one nice product in the sea of trash out there!!
For sure!! You never know what kind of quality lies in the bargain bin. Sometimes you just have to dig deep enough :)

Any type of field recorder might be worth looking into! Internal recording & direct to camera. Newer ones like the Tascam Portacapture X6 and the Zoom Essentials are 32-bit float as well so if you've got the budget, they might make your life way easier

I just bought the Ulanzi AM18 for only 76 dollars. It has a receiver and two wireless mics and even comes with accessories. It even fits in a hot shoe. Brilliant.

I agree that the price is high. I disagree that this is aimed at beginners, and the high price is an indicator. This is being marketed as a highly mobile professional wireless audio solution. The cost is justified by how small, light weight, and compact the mic + transmitter is. You clip on a 2x2 inch brick to your shirt and say it's better because it's a lot cheaper - I'd wager a lot of professionals would pay more for a discreet mic. You compare cheap lapel mics that are wired to the fully wireless all-in-one shure mic and don't include the transmitters in the picture. Again, I'd wager that professionals in the field would rather have the ease of clipping on a fully wireless mic to talent, rather than having to put on a bodypack + wired lapel mic.
The 2 channel high quality bluetooth audio direct to phone is underrated. Until BLE audio is standardized, proprietary solutions are the only way around it. Once BLE audio is available native to iphone and android, a firmware update will enable this mic to be used with any app.
Now, Shure is best known for it's durability and RF reliability. I haven't seen anyone dare to do a drop test or crush test with this mic yet. It's claim is IPX4, so I'd also be interested in some light water testing. I'd also be curious to see how this holds up to cheap wireless mics in an RF congested scenario like on a convention floor with lots of 2.4ghz traffic.
I'll do a water/drop/crush test. If it survives, then I'll give away the kit :) I'll shout ya out for bringing it up!
For the marketing, since most of their demos are of them comparing literal phone audio to processed movemic audio - it's hard for me to say that it's marketed to professionals. It's being marketed to youtubers and tiktokers with disposable income lol. Which is fine, plenty of mics do.
And also I'm completely with you on everything, you're totally right, 100%. BUT, the problem all boils down to sound quality. Yes, as a professional, I will stick with my current setup for ads, until a design like this is able to deliver the same fidelity sound as similarly priced gear like the Sanken Cos 11D - there's a reason equipment like that is still standard. The movemic just isn't even close in terms of sound to price - and... it's a microphone - that's it's one and only job. The reason I compared it to weird aftermarket chinese knockoff mics is because they sound better. We can throw all the bells, whistles, features and talking points around we want but when it comes down to being out in the field, sound quality will always be the #1 priority :)
Maybe I'm just lazy and don't like spending all the time in post cleaning up the signal. Until this type of design can deliver fidelity worth what they're selling it for, the extra 15-30 seconds it might take to plug in and hide a lapel mic to a wireless transmitter will be worth it. This thing is a really great idea, but it just needs some more iterations to be worth using seriously. When that happens, I will be all over it and I probably won't shut up about how awesome it is. All my whining aside, I genuinely can't wait to see this design evolve and improve in the future. Some day this type of gear will sound indistinguishable from the current standards and will replace them and going back to your whole point here, yeah that will be all be huge. It just can't all come at the expense of quality, like it does here. Hope that makes sense!
And IPX4 such a non-feature I didn't even think it was worth mentioning in the video lol. IPX4 just means you can splash water on it/sweat on it and it'll be okay (for anyone reading this thread). Anything with a sealed plastic or metal shell is, with or without the certification, a similar level of "waterproof".

Watched it all;) Very interesting and some good points. That $20 wireless lav is the most stark of the comparisons since it's the closest to what the MoveMic is. I'm going to keep using the MoveMic with my upcoming videos and see if that buzz/hum/ringing sound keeps rearing its ugly head. If it does, I would expect a firmware update but if it's a shielding issue then of course that's a much bigger issue and would be a deal breaker...for me lol. The deal is clearly already broken for you ;)

And oh yeah, I'm gonna use it too, mostly just because well, I have it now - so might as well. It *is* a decent little mic for non-serious projects. The tone is fixable in post, but I'm only willing to do that because I didn't pay for it. It does come and go, so there are clean takes without it. Either it's a firmware thing like you're saying or it's a QA issue where not all units have it.
Even if it's patched though, yeah, still can't recommend. It would still be too expensive for what it is, that's the main thing, since all-round better systems exist for 1/4th of the cost.

I don't have it, so definitely take this with a massive grain of salt - but from what I've listened to, I think it sounds great. If 32-bit float is important to your workflow then that's the only thing I think would be missing. ~250 is super fair for the sound I've heard from them, especially since getting two lapels included is only an extra ~20 bucks

Yeah the WM300 is bulky - I'm just used to it. Sometimes I ditch the case and just toss one RX/TX/mic in a pocket and go. They have a smaller BoomX-D2 system or their Vimo series, but I haven't tried it yet so I can't speak on the quality outside of demos I've listened to. Otherwise there's just a whole world of other options out there!
I really like the $20 and comica sound quality best. Do you have any in depth comparisons based around the comica?
Also have you tried the ulanzi j12? Or only the am18 you've mentioned? The j12 is half the price.

If you don't mind adding the bulk to your setup, I love my Comica WM300 system. Otherwise, the usual suspects of Hollyland and DJI are safe bets, or the Ulanzi system I showed here paired with literally any lapels of your choice.

So lav mics are more-so designed for interview-style filmmaking, not at all for music. I definitely would advise against shopping for one for that. Not sure where/what environment/context you want to record in, or what type of guitar (acoustic?); but I would look instead for a little handheld vocal mic, like the Marengo I reviewed a while ago (can be plugged into your camera ua-cam.com/video/QEfSqAz3e9Q/v-deo.html). Best case scenario, would be a field recorder with two inputs, and two dynamic mics, one pointed at your guitar, one up to your mouth.
You could get a Zoom H4n Pro (amzn.to/4cOKgJZ) and two dynamic mics, for like $220/250 total and have some great results.
Cheaper still, even a single zoom h1 would be 'good enough' and better than a lav mic for recording guitar/vocals

Zoom h1 on the low end, and a tascam portacapture x6 on the same price point as this shure here would do the trick for ya! Field recorders have way better preamps than cameras so that's why I'm fixating on suggesting one lol. Lower noise floor and better quality is a good streamline in the long-run

I like the raw honesty, but i don't know if it's fair to compare these so directly to bulkier systems using separate lavs, be that a more traditional UHF system like the Comica, or the more modern wifi-based systems like the Rode Go, DJI Mic, etc.
I see these as more of a direct competitor to what I think of as "micro-transmitter" systems, like the PicoMic or the newer Hollyland with the small round transmitters. The intended use case for these are similar, and probably overlap for many users, but are still not the same; I see these as intended for situations where you need a fast clip-on setup but can't have the weight/bulk of the larger systems weighing down a collar or shirt pocket (which most of the wifi-based systems do), and definitely can't be faffing with running a lav wire to a belt or pants pocket.
I'm interested in the Shures, or more likely the second or third generation of them, as replacements for my PicoMic system, although it will take markedly better range and/or internal back-up recording to motivate the spend.
So the reason I deliberately chose to compare it to those systems is kind of a black and white, boomer thing. It's a microphone, and it's sound quality is it's one and only job, above anything else in the world. It's still just a mic at the end of the day and when I'm working, the best sounding thing is what I take with me. The point was just "hey, here's a mic for 1/5th of the price that sounds better". Even though what you're saying is totally valid, I saw that kind of comment coming because it's totally fair lol. It's just not where my priorities are, if that makes sense.
But for real though, yes. That's exactly where I'm at! Something I totally neglected to mention in the video is that I am actually excited to see this type of design be refined in the near future. I'll gladly shell out the asking price for something like this if it can keep up with my current setup. Just not there yet is all

I've seen a bunch of polar opposite reviews. Either they love or hate it. I do agree it's overpriced but I do like it's form factor. I own high quality uhf wireless lav mic system, but I'd like to add a clip on mic for situations where easy of use is more of a factor. The biggest downside of traditional lav is concealing the mic under the shirt especially if it's a woman. Then you need to deal with clothing rustle. So clip on has that appeal. When you compare the size of other clipon mic especially the Rode this does seem nice. With all that said I don't own it.
I figured things would balance out once more reviews rolled in. I don't hate it by any means, it's just hard to recommend to anyone that isn't rich if that makes sense lol.
The form factor is really cool, and you know there will be tons of designs inspired by this in the near future, hopefully with sound quality that actually make them worth having. That's sort of the main issue here, is that the sound on it's own is just not good enough to replace anyone's existing setup. I've actually taken the movemic out for an ad shoot recently. Clothing rustle was as bad as if not worse than my usual setup, wind noise as well, since you can't hide these under clothes on windy days. It was nice to just be able to clip it on and go - but it was not nice having to reshoot the scene because the sound quality was just not good and I didn't want to process the signal to hell to make it sound good. Switched to my old setup and did a one and done. It's a GREAT idea, but the sound is just not there yet. Will be in the near future though I'm sure!

It actually comes with two good lapel mics already :) I would use them first before thinking about getting new ones.
And it does not come with a lightning adapter no, I don't have an iphone so I don't really watch out for good options for that. So I don't really have any good iPhone-compatible recommendations unfortunately!

Yep! Actually happens on all receiver presets and regardless of gain, and it's more front and center, ironically, with noise suppression on. Present when connected to a Zoom H1, three different cameras and through my SSL 2 - but it's not present when connected via bluetooth to my phone, without the receiver - which leads me to believe it's a receiver issue

@@theNitefly Both! :) USB to a macbook (not plugged in) and 1/8 direct to camera and even XLR. Happens outdoors in an open field direct to camera as well haha. Really weird

Sound quality is higher than competition, Shure is an established pro sound brand, and even $500 has been the lowest price for a pro wireless lav mic, so you’re a little off with this review. Check out Curtis Judd’s one if you’re interested in a sound pro’s take on it.

Be prepared to spend time in post cleaning it up though - as someone who owns four of these mics - not on loan. The sound you're hearing here is what you'll be working with. Zero work in post has been done in this video, that's the whole point here.
If you have the disposable income though then there's no reason not to pick them up. All comes down to what you value in your own gear and your own workflow. Ya might love em.

Shure are known for shit like this, e.g. they released an "update" to their SE846 earphone model (costing 1kUSD), this update consists of literally one thing - of a pair of filters which cost single digit USD to make (and I'm being generous and charitable here). These filters can be bought as an accessory and they retail for about 30USD and... can be used with SE845 v1... but you can't buy these filters if own v1, they only sell them if you can prove that you own v2. They literally want you spend another 1k USD to see how much improvement that 30USD filter makes. Bunch of w⚓s

The more reviews I watch for the Shure Movemic, the more I dislike it. Even reviews that try hard to polish it have failed to convince me.
I value a nice, clean, natural sound higher than a signal that I have to spend time in post polishing :) Maybe I'm just lazy though.
