  • A boat ride to the most remote isolated lighthouse on the East coast...36 miles out in the ocean from my port....I see dolphins, ocean sunfish, and miles of open ocean on this trip.....Absolutely beautiful day !

My grandmother grew up on a rock like that, Her father was the light house keeper. It was not nearly as remote as that one but still a very hard life. Try raising a family (large families in those days) in a place like that. The light house keeper was a very important job back then, Especially in a storm.

*dolphins are awesome unless you're a fisherman of course, that light house was pretty interesting too. seems like it would get flooded out quite a bit being only 20 feet above sea level seems like the storms would pretty much have their way with the place*

Must have been pretty intense being a lighthouse keeper back in the day during a huge storm....There used to be a boathouse but it was swept away in a hurricane many years ago....You figure only being 20 feet above sea level at "low" tide, means at "high" tide in this area it could be less than 6 feet above sea level....Then you add 20 to 30 foot seas to the equation, you are hunkering down for dear life in the very top of that granite lighthouse with your family....I don't imagine they would have dared to try ride it out in the wooden structure....And then imagine the forecasting of weather was just you and a barometer....Crazy to think really what they went through !

Do you know what fish those dolphins eat ? Seems they were feasting ? : )
I went to College of the Atlantic and fell in love with Mount Desert Island.
I unfortunately never made it to the Rock though...

They should allow to take one a year. I see dolphins all over ocean. My father said they are good eating
