    This is a great video for all online language tutors to watch. Many tutors (especially newbies) have no clue of what they should do during a trial lesson.

    Thank you Martin for a very helpful authentic Preply trial lesson. It was good to see how things worked out and how you were able to guide Yasu. I am a new tutor to Preply and am hoping to help adult and business students too. I have gained much from watching your videos (I'm subscribed). Today's, being genuine, has helped me understand and appreciate things even more.

    After listening to this lesson , if I were to give a feetback on this, I will say you can always repeat such lessons . By so doing this student might just take let say five more years to be really fluent. He is at the verge of getting to becoming fluent.

    Have you got any questions... I never understand why people uses "got" Have you any questions... Another thing that irks me is inproper use of "yes" We are trying to teach students proper English - I cannot stress that we should correct them. Not "yep", "yup" but "yes". My ears cring when I see and hear this being taught. I have recently come across your videos and subscrive and do find your content imformative. Thank you for thaking the time in providing us with advise.

    • @ELTExperiences
      @ELTExperiences  5 днів тому

      I’m pleased you find my content useful and informative despite my flaws in my spoken language, particularly with grammar. We all have our strengths as well as our pet peeves. One of my pet peeves is the incorrect use of verbs in the present perfect with native speakers. I suppose I should adjust the “Have you (got) any questions?” to “What questions have you got?” as this would get students to think and is more open rather the use of a closed question. Thanks again and I hope you enjoy the content despite some of the questionable uses of English.

    I have a trial lesson tomorrow on preply with a student who is on level C1 advanced, I'm unsure what to do.
    See his goal
    I want to deepen my use of grammar syntax and boost my proficiency.
    I am currently in C1 level of English proficiency.. Do you think I can take this level up to C2 in about 2 months learning with you??

    • @ELTExperiences
      @ELTExperiences  2 дні тому +1

      Sorry for the confusion. I would explain to the student that it would take a long time to move from C1 to C2 and that it takes a lot of work to achieve. I would recommend that you give the students many tasks to complete but focus on developing their natural spoken English by introducing advanced idiomatic phrases and grammar. Perhaps purchase Advanced Grammar in Use as it will help you prepare lessons and get a good dictionary. You could also share some podcasts for the student to listen to.

      I used the Google Document to write down my notes for the trial lesson and give spoken feedback with it. I share the notes with the student and I find the Preply Whiteboard a little awkward to use with the student so don't use it.

      I’ve had multiple students take trial lessons out not even attend their scheduled class. I would recommend that you move on and focus on how you could improve your trial lesson. Think about how students responded, were they positive? Think about your material, could you make it better.

    Hello i have a questiin is it necessary to write down what students say? Do you also do it on every session?

    • @ELTExperiences
      @ELTExperiences  4 місяці тому +2

      This is a great question and thank you for your comment. For me, I try to note down as much as what the student says - both examples of good utterances as well as areas for improvement. I try to be as balanced as possible and then provide positive feedback as well as scaffold language for learners.
      In a way, I find making a note of what is uttered reminds me about different aspects of what the student has said and then this provides a key example of my dedication. So, yes I do this in every trial lesson.
