Definitely great to begin getting ready for drama school auditions around your age. Reading plays, watching theatre and working on your acting skills

Mert Ergec amazing! Audition for both and if you are lucky enough to get in I would say NIDA - but it’s a very personal choice

Hi Luke & Andy, Do you know if the auditions are as intense when you're going for one of their Adult 18+ courses? I'm auditioning for Adult Studio - Screen Acting Techniques this December.

Hey! No they will be much more relaxed. It is really only the major courses that are so intense as they are very competitive.

So if I don't have any theatre experience before auditioning, I should consider it a NO right away?

Great question. Definitely still audition. There are always a few actors that get in who have very limited experience. But I would use the rest of the year to train as much as possible, go watch lots of theatre, read plays, and audition for as many local/independent theatre productions as possible. You could definitely get some experience before the auditions in November.

Mr Bashford is an experienced, classically trained and passionate teacher. Unfortunately the NIDA board (since Lyn Williams) are all corporate and have dwindled down the quality of acting training at NIDA. So many unprepared (emotionally) and unsuitable (triggered) actors are now accepted into the course that you know when these actors graduate they will not be able to cope with rigours, brutality and damaging aspects of the arts, entertainment and film industry. It's common knowledge now that they accept a wide cross section of types and looks into the B.A f/t program and that NIDA are not allowed to kick anyone out (during the 3 years) anymore. Also when teachers do attempt at being stern (hard) or push these over sensitive and emotionally unstable students, the students complain and the teacher is reprimanded or even asked to leave. How can you even begin to run and acting school like that? If they can't handle acting school/classes that are challenging, hard and tough, then how are you ever going to handle the industry?
Does anyone know of any actor since 2010 that has graduated from NIDA that has the same recognition (and quality in acting) as Cate Blanchett, Sam Worthington, Sarah Snook or Genevieve O'Reilly?
Overhaul the board, restructure the course and choose actors for the B.A f/t course based on quality, strong detriment and strong minds. Hire teachers that care more about the students long term future, but not pleasing them and keeping them happy during their 3 year stints.
Emotionally unstable and actors with mental health issues should not be accepted into a drama school environment, they are heading for serious mental health breakdowns, depression and/or even worse.

Why auditions tapes are not elligible? It's so hard for international students like we need to come to Australia for this. Is this even practical? IELTS 8.0 ? Seriously? Well audition tapes should be practical.

2kShine hey! I think it's important for them to see you in the room. Very hard to tell a students physical and vocal ability via a self tape.

It's a blind shot. I mean u never know you'll get enrolled and my God if you didn't. It's going to be such waste of hopes time and money.

@@2kShine Yea I agree!!! They should accept video Enrollments!! as people who cant spend the money to get over there. I personally think they should. Because I would 100% pay money to go over to Australia to live for how many years your there for.

Yes a bit of a tricky one. I guess with acting it is very helpful to see you in the room and get a chance to work with you one on one.

I think understand at least why NIDA does not accept video submissions, at my NIDA audition the workshop aspect of it was such a major part of the audition it was more about how you responded to that, rather than your polished monologue and that's something that they really can't tell through a video :)
