Thank you so much for making this video. Made it a whole lot easier taken that negative off. I would’ve never thought to do that.

Thank you! Saved me a ton of wasted time trying to figure it out myself. Followed the steps and done in 15 minutes.

You don't have to go through the remove the negative cable stuff. Remove the positive lead. Pull the battery out as far as it will go. Lift the end of the battery up and it will give you enough room to remove the negative line from the battery. I have done this many times as I remove the battery at the end of every season.

    Good Video ❤ THANK YOU
I am actually embarrassed I have to UA-cam., THIS !
BY FAR THE MOST COMPLICATED BATTERY SET UP I'VE EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE. AND I AM 57 YEARS OLD
Harley-Davidson really outdid themselves., making this very simple thing unnecessarily complicated

My model always lets off a 'chirp' when disconnecting the battery. Probably by design (in case a thief is disconnecting your battery, a chirp is better than no sound at all!)

Turn bike on and leave ignition on so alarm goes boop boop and pull master fuse then disconnect battery, re install and then put fuse back in no problemo

How come chatgpt say to connect the red (positive) first then black or else it may get sparks and break a fuse? Does it really matter which one goes first?

Great video, thanks. Now if I could only get my ol lady to take her own battery out so I wouldn't have to do this friggen circle jerk batt job, wtf.

Right when you’re at the boop boop part removing the 2 pieces from the side of the battery, I was able to slide and remove the bottom one but the top one will not slide forward. Yes, I’m a woman but not an idiot and try to do things myself. I don’t have anyone to do it for me and trying to not pay someone. All I want to do is hook up wires for my stereo system. Why is it so difficult?? 😞

I hope you worked it out by now, but they both slide towards the REAR to unclip on my 2011 XL883L (right, if facing the left side of bike where the positive battery terminal is).

Is there any way to diagnose the battery without removing it? Also is there a capacity meter I could get to always be able to tell if I have a charge?

Yes, the most simple version is get a voltmeter (or multimeter), and check voltage BOTH with bike fully OFF, and then again while it's running at about 1800-2000 RPM or greater.
Healthy voltage depends on the battery type, but if you have a typical sealed lead acid (SLA), with bike off, you should measure >=12.5V. With bike running, I believe it should be >=13.1 and may be as high as 14.4 or so.

Obviously you have no security alarm system on your bike. If you did, the alarm would have been triggered when you unhooked the battery. Just a 'heads up' to unsuspecting do-it-yourselfers who DO have a H-D alarm on their bike. It's a real earful when your right next to the bike.

Huh??? You take the dang negative cable from the battery. You ain’t going to set your screw driver on top of the battery are ya? That’s why they say remove from chassis.. it’s just like your car… unhook it and slide in new then hook red up then black. Pull fuse on bike alarm so when you hook new battery back up you don’t have an alarm blaring in your ears
