Well, that would be a conspiracy theory, and so, if true than it automatically becomes simply a lie to hold up a larger conspiracy.

But why people believe some of the things they do I'll never wrap my head around. Doesn't mean I can't discuss it with them, just too few in-person opportunities to bother learning.

My Grandparents talk all the time about how their parents thought smoking cigarettes being dangerous was a conspiracy theory because everywhere you looked back then there were ads about cigarettes being great and anyone who questioned it got laughed at. Many doctors figured out they were harmful decades before they were taken seriously. If I was up to no good I would want everyone talking about it to be laughed at too.

Lots of things WERE conspiracy theories that are practically accepted fact now, like the CIA/Mafia killing JFK and the FBI killing MLK Jr.
Conspiracy theories shouldn't be dismissed just on the surface level claim (unless it's something really stupid and easy to disprove like flat earth or fake moon landing), but on what is actually credible to back it up.

Guys no joke, in my family there is this boomer character who is like a human cartoon.. He never married, has no kids and he also lives alone in small house located on outskirts of town near a river where he fishes all day long. He believes that ufos are actually demons and that they just shapeshift into ufos when they come into this dimension. He also believes in nephilim and annunaki and that nephilim dont go into afterlife when they die but that they get added into ranks of demons. Then he thinks that white dots and orbs in photos are evidence of spiritual realm and gets angry when we tell him that its just dust or something. There is also alot of cryptid talk... So when he comes to dinner it turns into quite a show. Everyone goes quiet and we all listen to his stories about NWO cospiracies and big government secrets and what not... Basically imagine someone who actually believes everything that Alex Jones says.
