Most Asian countries are not public transport efficient like Singapore yet they try to raise taxes on vehicles using congestion as excuse. It's ridiculous. But get this, their road taxes are so low! I rather pay high yearly road taxes than pay a one time 300% tax on a Honda. That's why most Asian countries uses scooter as their main transport but then they have the highest road accident rate. It's all a huge scheme to over tax their own citizens.

not really, having 300% tax on a vehicle only improves your country UNLESS the country itself is a car manufacturer. your people are discouraged from buying foreign goods and your money stays in your own country rather than going to Japan or Germany. if there was no tax on cars in a country that does not make cars for example Vietnam then it'd be cheap for people to buy them and many people could access it, it'd also encourage people to get expensive ones, every single purchase means more money of the country going out, and going to foreign companies not on vietnamese hands, always a net loss.
I think car prize in Singapore are reasonable to prevent traffic congestion & road wear main rule less consumption less deterioration.
