I am a recovering alcoholic. I used to listen to this song when I was struggling trying to get sober and could relate so well. Then I got sober and wished well on Scott, not knowing very much about him or the band. To find out that he didn’t make it out of the disease of depression and addiction was heartbreaking, truly. R.I.P. friend. It’s not easy... but to anyone struggling, it is possible. Never let your demons win.

      I’m crying today about him.
I saw him first in 2009 in Philly. He was in a small shop they cleared out. They had a bar on them. Years later pregnant with my child, she kicked along as we saw then again in Philly.
      My mother died that month.
Then my father died a few months later.
      Then my step brother.
And I grew so attached to them. To him.
I cry very often grieving his absence. He has given me so much strength, even from the grave. I’m so sad I won’t ever see him again.
If there is an afterlife, I hope I get to thank him.

I'm four months clean of smack crack booze and weed. My funding for rehab has been approved and I'm progressing well through my prerequisite classes for rehab preparation. Someone at my classes put me on to this song.
It hurts more because my friend killed himself about the same time I got clean after a long term battle with addiction and poor mental health. He'd been clean while.
Getting clean is the easy part, take your drug of choice away and you're left with you. The real battle begins.
No one in life is a tougher opponent than yourself so accentuate the positives and don't be so hard on yourself. You'll get there. Addiction wants you beating yourself up. Start launching shots at it however small and it builds.
For everyone struggling. You got this.
    Peace and love x x

Years ago my friend used to say this song reminded him of me, back when I used to be a complete wreckhead with complete abandon not wanting help nor realising there was an issue, it's only this past year when I've fully faced that I had an issue with alcohol and started stopping that I remembered he gave me this recommendation. I can't tell you how much listening to it moved me to tears, for how much it nails the throes of alcohol addiction, but the fact that my best friend was able to see how tragic what I was doing to myself was and this was how he was seeing me. Currently 7 weeks clean, not sure how long I'll be clean, but this song truly hits to the heart of the reality many alcoholics hit, I hope whoever is listening to this finds support

Scott said this of the video; "That was full on. Yeah. It's a drunk lady, having a really bad time. I was sort of struck by that. It was more further than I thought the song went. The song was kinda like... is... has depth, but I don't think it's distressing. But I mean, yeah, I... it wasn't my favourite actually but... you know, it happened. (laughs)." From his Google Talk.
Personally I think his song is much stronger than even he was aware. It has more than depth. It's incredibly powerful. And this video reinforces that.
I'm also an alcoholic, battling with it now for 40 years. I'm 56. I did actually have 8 years sober but I threw it away. And I still battle now. This song hit me to the core the first time I heard it and still has the same affect. I was a fan of FR from 2008 and bought all their albums as they came out. (On CD but now I have them on vinyl). Each one is as brilliant as each other. What a legacy he's left. Scott's passing was shocking and very sad but the lyrics to all his songs tells many stories, that many people can relate to. Let's hope that more people discover this incredible man and his extraordinary talent (and find some healing in the process). The man was a true poet.

Fall prey to the blizzard head
Wrapped my hand around the glass again
We all thought that I might change as I got older
    Fell down and nothing bled
    Wrapped in cotton alcohol again
To the hill hear from the prick upon my shoulder
    Free pour the fruitless thoughts
It's far too late to talk so much but
    Still not giving up though
I wish that I was sober
Forgive me I can't speak straight
    Forgive me I can't
Forgive me it's far too late
    Choke down the gateway drug
Opened the gates, in came the flood, it comes
Like a blush of love, it hits me without warning
    Long nights of getting lost
Iwalk beneath the bridge I don't know
I need black suit for tomorrow, I'm in mourning
    My love you should know
The best of me left hours ago so
Shove it right into my mouth and let me smolder
    Fallout and the damage done
    I can't un-sing the things I've sung
    Still not giving up though
I wish that i was sober
Forgive me I can't speak straight
    Forgive me I can't
Forgive me it's far too late

My mom was an alcoholic (she was sober the years up until her early death)… she looks so much like the lady in this video. From size, to face, to drunken expressions and mannerisms. Oddly helpful for me to see this

This is a haunting video, have been clean and sober since before yesterday. Remember being in a psychiatric hospital years ago and being confronted by a psychiatrist. I asked him "have you ever heard the beast roar?" Have you ever felt it roar?" When he said he did not know what I was talking about I told him we had nothing further to discuss and he locked me in my room for a week. Who is so low they are not our brothers and sisters.

sugey reyes the more mindless the music, the more distraction from the real problems. People don't want to confront their addictions or depression on the way to Pilates. I see their music as therapeutic. Depressingly uplifting as someone else said.
