  • If you have not heard about HMS Gotland- it’s because she is difficult to track. She was noticed for her guest appearance in USA 2005-2007, when she took part in an exercise together with the US Navy outside the coast of California and the opponents had difficulties locating her.
    The Gotland-class submarine by Kockums, originally launched in 1995, in operation by the Swedish Royal Navy.

    Id prefer this Submarine for our Philippine Navy than the Scorpene of France, S-80 of Spain & DSME 1400 of South Korea.
    Just my Opinion

    Amazing! Question. When approaching the opponent, is the diesel engine running, or just the batteries and electric motor?

    • @jensolsson9666
      @jensolsson9666 2 роки тому +15

      Batteries only…… but they realy prefer to let the opponent do the approaching…. into the prepared ambush site.

      You deffs don't have that kinda money. And Brazil is now trade partners with a nation Allied against Sweden so even less likely.

      They are old (mid 90:s) and pretty cheap, only around $100 million or so (and retrofitted for about as much). But you should really go for the new Blekinge-class instead, they are $816 million per unit.

      you never know with submarines.. there can be others. and also. the A26 is a step up so then this cant be the most silent sub.

      Nope, the sea wolf class submarine is the most silent.

      @@andrewdoesyt7787 nonnuclear subs going on battery produces less sounds than a nuclear sub does.
      Turning off the cooling for the nuclear is not a good option even while idleing.
      The rest is up to sounddampening in the sub.
      The Seawolf class is built to hunt in the blue water oceans.
      The Gotland class is built to ambush in coastal waters.

      @@jensolsson9666 I don’t know about that, the sound from nuclear energy mostly comes from the cooling pump, and that can be pretty small, and it’s anyways an electric motor just like the propulsion for Gotland class. Nuclear fission is probably pretty quiet, I imagine the sound of welding but louder. A Sterling(?) engine is literally explosions.
      I think running off of just the batteries won’t last long, mostly just for speed boosts.

      @@andrewdoesyt7787 the Strirling is a constant heat engine and not a explosion engine.
      I do not know how long the batteries last but I asume several hours, long enough for a attack run and escape.
      The difference is between few very quiet components running and no components running.

    Is this not the same as a collins class?

    • @jensolsson9666
      @jensolsson9666 2 роки тому +2

      No Collins is based on the class before Gotland, Västergötland.
      Also Australia opted out off a middlife upgrade that would have included Stirling engines.
