The name “Frank Friday” is being used as a placeholder because the fletcher class is named for “Frank Friday Fletcher”. Anyways I really wish Johnston had focused more on survivability. Would’ve made more sense as a tier 10 tbh.
Test ship shown is an early "round bridge" Fletcher. I would assume the finished model will be properly a "square bridge" Fletcher and have single 20mm Oerlikon mounts. Another excellent video! Thank you for reviewing this heroic ship!
It's still early days and like you pointed out the model isn't ready yet. This is just the fletcher model variant we are testing with the Johnstons stats...rate of fire. burst fire etc. Tomorrow is the anniversary of the launch of the USS Johnston so expect a little piece in the community section and a short video to commemorate her.
One of the problems, and I think why most naval games have shied away from adding the Johnston is because of the history. No matter what you do, the in game ship will not be able to match what the real ship did, and if it does come close, the player base will bitch about it being OP. See: Enterprise.

The bridge looks wrong for USS Johnston. According to pictures of her on wiki she had a squared bridge not a rounded one. Also did she not have a walk around deck in front of the bridge?
Johnston kept turning around to rejoin the battle having already suffering severe damage. In the game, it needs heals. Kutzenov style. unlimited times. And faster repairs.
Its great to See Johnston in the Game, Although it would have been better if you could Swap out the engine Boost for Specialized Repair teams given how Johnston despite taking heavy Damage from the Kongo and possibly the Yamato herself in the form of 6 inch gun fire, Johnston's repair teams repaired two of her five main turrets and kept her crippled engines running to force the enemy battle line to disperse, before she took more shells from Japanese heavy cruisers which destroyed her Engines, sealing her Fate. Also I got a new Fan Ship Concept: U.S.S Michigan, Tier 9. Description: A Variant of the Vermont Class of Ships, of Which its named is derived from the South Carolina class Ship that bared the same Name. She was a Design that sacrificed Armor in-exchange for speed. Although Her armament, Size, and speed would have classified her as a Fast Battleship like the Iowa's. although no ships of this type were Laid down or seriously pursued, design elements introduced on most of the Designs, would be used to develop Later U.S battleships, including the 406/50 caliber guns in a 4x3 layout later found on the "Standard" South Dakota and Montana Class battleships. Armament: 4x3 406mm guns with a firing range of 18.1km, reload time is 36 seconds, with a sigma of 2.0. Secondary armament: (16x1) 152/56 caliber guns in 6 single Casements in the Super Structure, and one in the hull on the stern on Each side. (8 per Side in total) with improved armor penetration capabilities (30mm) Reloads in 6.5 seconds. (4x1) 127/25 caliber guns with two, Single mounts on each side of the Ship with 21mm of penetration. (Note: While from what Designs I could Find online of Tillman 3, All ships would have Carried 127/54 caliber guns. Later Revisions of the Tillman designs would put the Casement guns in the Super Structure to keep them Dryer. the Larger 6 inch, 56 caliber weapons COULD have been mounted in place of the 5 inch guns, although less guns in total could Be Carried.) Max Speed: 30 Knots. The Ship retains her Half-sister, Vermont's Acceleration and de-acceleration characteristics, but with a slightly larger turning circle Radius. (Armor) Main citadel Armor Belt: 332mm Torpedo Side plating: 38mm Super Structure: 19mm Secondary 152 casements: 75mm Deck plating: 32mm bow and Stern. Main Deck: 38mm. (Gimmicks) Specialized repair teams: (super Heal) that can Recover 60% of citadel damage, (3 Base Charges). Experienced Patrol fighters: (5 charges) Covers a 6km Range around the Ship for 2 minutes, these 7 Bi-plane Fighters are Special in that they have Low HP, But They have a very fast time until Attack once inside 6km, but they overall deal Less Damage overtime then other Fighter consumables but has a slightly longer attack duration. After an attack run on enemy aircraft, the fighters will continue to hover around the Ship for an additional 10 seconds before leaving. cool-down is 2 minutes and 30 seconds.
In it's current state it's quite an upgrade to the tech tree fletcher. Should it stay close to this it's probably one of the best T9 DDs in game. Especially for the ones of us that love the tech tree ship a must have.
Uss Black with smoke and radar combination is still an incredible combination which is hard to beat especially for competitive like ranked etc. Johnston might be a more fun randoms experience but only time will tell until she is in her finished state.

Looks interesting, real ships are always a welcome addition, though I could do without the burst fire gimmick.
WG is all about gimmicks these days.

It's the test name for the Uss Johnston as they dont have the actual exact model and camo ready yet
