I'm so glad that Chozen found redemption, too! He had some fun at Daniel's expense pretending at first to be the same old nasty Chozen, but that just made it more heartwarming when he revealed that he has changed and become a man that Miyagi and Sato are proud of.
A lot of shows try to build on older shows. But COBRA KAI is the first one in a long time to do it RIGHT. And it's great that so many of the original actors step into their roles, it's as if they never left them, but they grow and develop naturally as people can.
The thing I really love about this scene is that it humanizes Mr. Miyagi in a way that totally opposes Daniel's idealistic view of him. Daniel always viewed Mr. Miyagi as a "can't do no wrong" sensei who has "all the answers," but he realizes in this very scene that the man is actually more like him than he realizes with his fair share of flaws, regrets, and struggles.
The bond between MIyagi and Daniel is strong because "the roots are strong." Whereas Miyagi was a teacher who lost a infant son, Daniel was a student who didnt have a father, both became more than teacher and student. Whereas Sato said, the student becomes the teacher. Both Miyagi and Daniel are kindred souls, the letter expresses he can leave his life in peace knowing he had a student whom he loved as his son and all his knowledge and wisdom will be honored for generations after him. A very touching moment.

Throughout the entire Cobra Kai series the writers have done a beautiful job of honoring Pat Morita’s (Mr Mijagi’s) memory through letters, mementoes and appropriately timed brief flashbacks. Even through five seasons now I still find myself tearing up every time Mr Mijigi is mentioned or subtly referenced. It just goes to show what a iconic and beloved character he is to this franchise.
From the moment Kumiko read this, I was tearing. Once she read the part about Mr. Miyagi in the hospital I was crying. When Kumiko got to the part about how he was proud of Daniel and accepted into Daniel's family, I completely lost it and couldn't stop crying. How the world today needs a Mr. Miyagi.
he's still here. i kid you not, everytime i wax my car, its wax on wax off. everytime i paint, UP! DOWN! or LEFT! RIGHT!, everytime i sand something, right circle, left circle. and most importantly, always look eye.
This was probably my favorite scene from the third season. As a longtime fan, the Daniel and Miyagi relationship will always be the heart of the franchise for me. Great acting by Ralph Macchio here and Tamilyn Tomita was able to slide back into her old role fantastically. The writers also did a great job writing some authentic sounding Miyagi dialogue.
I once heard someone say, "A man who does not or never cries is just 'a man,' but a man who can cry and show emotion is 'a human.'" It's OK to cry, mate...cheers! 👍
This show has not put a foot wrong. It's so amazing. Love how it's not detached itself from the movies with reusing the music from the films and also bringing back every actor. No replacements. This is a special show. Loved the films and now loving this show. Long may it continue
I sobbed when I firat watched this episode. Just completely ugly cried. The letter is so sweet and so pure and wholesome. You can really tell in just a few sentences how much Mr. Miyagi really loves Daniel. In the Japanese culture, from what I've learned about it, being accepted by someone else as a part of their family is one of the highest honors.
After all the things that Mr. Miyagi has taught Daniel, even after he's gone, he still had a lesson for Daniel. Love is one of the most powerful binds between any person.
Mr Miyagi was right about losing your way in life , everyone eventually will lose they way in life & yes you will find your way back to the right path eventually . In life we all have our ups & downs . I myself started my life with all downs until the age of 4 years old , I was born with a birth defect in my feet & had multiple surgeries to try to correct it that failed , then the doctors let me go on with my life until the age of 14 & I went back to having surgeries to correct my birth defect up to the age of 21 , finally it was corrected but with a small sacrifice of one leg being shorter than the other by a half inch , now in my 50s I found out that because one leg was shorter than the other & walking on that leg , now my hip is deteriorating & I was diagnosed in 2019 that I needed a total hip replacement , back when I was 21 my doctors told me that I would be in a wheelchair by the time I was 50 years of age , & now I can see why , now I am on my down side & it’s going to take a total of up to 2 years to bounce back from this surgery when I get it done . I’ve had other really big ups & downs in my life & I’ve proved a lot of people wrong & that’s because I always find my way back to the right path , it might take me some time , but I’m strong & a fighter & I,ll do what I think I should do to keep on living my life to my dying breath .

I just started binge-watching season 3 tonight and got up to this scene. The only thing that would have put it over the top and made me start bawling would be if they played the music from where Daniel was talking to Miyagi at the lake right after his father died. Still a very powerful moment in the series.
I've never cried this much in a long time. 😭😭 I was tearing up a river watching these scenes, especially this one.. Chozen really changed and all those flashback scenes to the Karate Kid movies with Pat Morita 😭😭
It's been awhile since I've felt this way. I knew going into season 3 that it would be a roller coaster of emotions. But, this scene is one of the best scenes a show has ever created. There were times when I teared up in the past to shows, but there was rarely a show that made me really cry like this scene does. The entire time it felt like Mr. Miyagi was really there talking to not only Daniel, but all of us indirectly. Such a powerful and emotional scene, I'm so glad the show is continuing his legacy honorably.
Even though it was never said,.. Miyagi loved Daniel and Daniel loved him right back. The proof is when he wrote that he felt like Samantha's grandfather which makes Daniel his son. RIP Miyagi, all of our hearts are empty without you. :'(
This is the sequence and moment that made me realize that this show was genuinely something special. It started to really find a groove in the second half of season 2 but Season 3 just blew me away. Now I get why this show is so beloved by so many and fans of The Karate Kid. All it took was for the writers to find the roots of the franchise again and showcase the true spirit and wisdom of Myagi-Do.
Miyagi will go down as one of the most beloved characters of all time. If there ever was a role someone was born to play, It's Pat playing Mr. Miyagi. He was like Bruce Lee and Mr Rogers all rolled into one perfect character...
I've been living in Japan for over 20yrs. Like anywhere. there are things I love and things I hate. But every once in a while I meet someone like Kumiko: elegant, calm, pure of heart, with quiet confidence. They are honest about themselves and deep thinkers. Whenever I see them,. they have this incredible calming effect. I wish there were more Kumiko's in this world.
I'm probably reading too deeply, but it feels like Kumiko slips back into Japanese, "tanmei", when reading the letter because it's such an important word. A most revered member of any family.

I've only been exposed to this entire series in the last 2 weeks and I can tell right away this scene meant a lot and that Ralph Macchio was not acting. Really touching scene and I'm glad I got to read other peoples comments about it too
It was an amazing episode for all of us that grew up on the Karate Kid movies in the 80s. It made all of us sad that we didn't see Kumiko in Karate Kid 3 and the only reference to her was a 2 line explanation. We were all looking forward to seeing their story continue. This episode gave us closer to that story in a good way.
Man this was so powerful not afraid to admit I cried Mr. Miyagi was like my Uncle who passed away last year. And the way Daniel looked up and said thank you Mr.Miyagi the feel's man.
@@shadowspidey7327 When I was a kid watching KK for the first time back in the 80s, I thought he was still a lovable character that I wanted in my family but kind of cheesy. I was kind of a hothead obsessed with ego and popularity and I lacked a father figure growing up. I think I was more Cobra Kai in thinking if you'll forgive my geeky reference. I thought the Miyagi way was only suited for fiction as a way to gain respect. In real life, I thought acting that way will get you teased and bullied; I thought you either fight back eagerly like a man and build that reputation as someone not to be messed with or submit like a coward and build that reputation of an easy target. Miyagi always favored something in between which I thought wasn't very manly until many years later. Now I think he epitomizes the idea of manliness as I see it. I would like to become more like Miyagi now as a former hothead and a show-off. The one other character that I think comes close to an ideal I'd like to strive towards is Captain Picard from Star Trek: TNG days. I didn't watch much Star Trek growing up but I binged on TNG in my 30s and I found the way Picard behaves very wise and well-balanced... badass if needed, fighting if necessary, but without seeking to fight or show off. Stoic without being too boring or robotic... that sort of stuff.
I respect Tammy’s Tomita’s acting in this scene so much more now, after seeing her in so many radically different roles over the years…..both with and without an accent. A lovely lady, and an accomplished, veteran actress.
I smiled so hard when I saw Kimiko, she was beautiful and sweet. Was so good having her back. Karate Kid forever! And Miyagi respected and loved Daniel, they were something more than friends, like family in a way. They both meant so much to each other. Also, this made me tear up because of Miyagi and Daniel san relationship, but also cause Pat Morita is no longer with us... Miss Pat Morita.
Mr. Miyagi although not here, still taught Daniel and will be with him forever. I also think Mr. Miyagi will be here teaching all of us who will take in his wisdom.
Mr. Miyagi lives on in this show his spirit is strong!! And Kumiko what a beauty and her soul as well scene made me clench my jaw and yes a tear escapes
If you never watched Karate Kid before (especially part 1), this would prolly not make you cry. But if you watched Karate Kid part 1, ur more likely to feel emotional than not while watching this scene. Mr. Miyagi gave him more than what a regular father would to his child. Not just material things but also principles in life.
Mr Miyagi is proud of Daniel and he's probably proud of Johnny for what he has done to change. Even his teachings can change people whether they are part of his dojo or formerly of cobra kai. Rest in Peace our sensei Miyagi.

A lot of shows try to build on older shows. But COBRA KAI is the first one in a long time to do it RIGHT. And it's great that so many of the original actors step into their roles, it's as if they never left them, but they grow and develop naturally as people can.
Yes, just like silver and kreese
The thing I really love about this scene is that it humanizes Mr. Miyagi in a way that totally opposes Daniel's idealistic view of him. Daniel always viewed Mr. Miyagi as a "can't do no wrong" sensei who has "all the answers," but he realizes in this very scene that the man is actually more like him than he realizes with his fair share of flaws, regrets, and struggles.
Now he can have a heart to heart talk with Anthony.
Very well said
That's an Emmy worthy performance for both of them.
No it isn’t......This wasn’t any acting, from anyone. We all miss Mr.Miyagi especially Daniel-San
@@undecidedcow3398 Completely agree....This wasn't "acting", i think they totally forgot they where "acting" or shooting a take.... This is as REAL as it gets....

When she translates it to grandfather, I think we all felt that emotion. So compelling, and I love how they keep Mr. Miyagi in the show without it being redundant or stale.
Tanmee is Japanese for grandfather.

This is not just Daniel reacting to Mr Miyagi’s letter. This is Ralph really crying for Pat.
It makes sense because they were both really close friends.
I think the same could be said for alot of us.
Miyagi.
You maybe right about that.
I wrote an essay in college regarding this same thing, however it was titled "Every child needs a Mr. Miyagi."
he's still here. i kid you not, everytime i wax my car, its wax on wax off. everytime i paint, UP! DOWN! or LEFT! RIGHT!, everytime i sand something, right circle, left circle. and most importantly, always look eye.
I especially lost it when she read "Samantha makes me feels like I'm her Tanme/ Grandfather."

Gone but still teaching Daniel...thank you Pat you were a great man and teacher 😢♥️
2:35 l even had a few tears, Samantha made Mr. Miyagi a man who didn't have a family feel like a grandfather to her that even got me chocked up.
Daniel and Mr.Miyagi had an amazing bond, that will never be broken.

This is the first thing to actually make me cry uncontrollably, literally couldn't hold em back and actually went off to break down
I've cried twice. I grew up watching these movies.
I once heard someone say, "A man who does not or never cries is just 'a man,' but a man who can cry and show emotion is 'a human.'" It's OK to cry, mate...cheers! 👍
Was not ready for this scene. That man gave Daniel everything. He is Sam's Grandfather in every real sense.
Facts!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This show has not put a foot wrong. It's so amazing. Love how it's not detached itself from the movies with reusing the music from the films and also bringing back every actor. No replacements. This is a special show. Loved the films and now loving this show. Long may it continue
I love the show even more
who would have thought reaching out to the fans works while spitting on the legacy and call the fans scum when they don't like it does not.
Miyagi was always proud of his student/son
Yesssss. Left him everything
Yes also Julie Pierce his student/daughter.
You’re forgetting another one. Friend. He was also a friend.
*I've teared up at many emotional scenes in my life... but this was the first scene to make me cry.*
"think about where I have been, think about where I am going"
That hit hard because he knew...
Someone else said it best. Mr. Miyagi was the champion for us bullied kids. Damn onions.
Yeh, Kreese and Silver can go suck it!
He fought against racists tooo....
This is what we have all waited for for two years, and it was worth the wait.
I waited over a month after finally catching up on the show. And I won’t forget New Years Day night watching this scene
I have been waiting to see Daniel and Kumiko together again for over 30 years. 😀
Tamlyn Tomita has aged so well. She's as beautiful as she was in KK 2

I love how they weave Miyagi through the show, but especially the scene when Daniel went to his grave in Season 1 and now this. It was hard to like Daniel in Season 1 until that scene, which is one of the best moments in the history of this franchise. This is up there too.
When she said how Daniel was so important to Miyagi and how he feels like a grandfather to Sam, I broke down, so emotional.
The best part is he doesn’t say “I feel like Sam’s grandfather” he says “Sam MAKES me feel like her grandfather” Sam must have really loved him

I started to tear up...oh my gosh...I know it's just a TV show but in many ways I feel like Daniel...a lil lost, misguided, needing Mr. Miyagi (or a mentor) in my life to show me the way...such a healing letter to hear read
As Miyagi would say: your journey to find balance has already begun.
I just started binge-watching season 3 tonight and got up to this scene. The only thing that would have put it over the top and made me start bawling would be if they played the music from where Daniel was talking to Miyagi at the lake right after his father died. Still a very powerful moment in the series.

Anyone who thinks Daniel "glazes" Miyagi clearly has never seen this scene. Miyagi and Daniel changed each other's lives for the better.
mr miyagi was basically his dad
This is the sequence and moment that made me realize that this show was genuinely something special. It started to really find a groove in the second half of season 2 but Season 3 just blew me away. Now I get why this show is so beloved by so many and fans of The Karate Kid. All it took was for the writers to find the roots of the franchise again and showcase the true spirit and wisdom of Myagi-Do.
As Miyagi has said "the roots are strong so the tree will survive"
Miyagi will go down as one of the most beloved characters of all time. If there ever was a role someone was born to play, It's Pat playing Mr. Miyagi. He was like Bruce Lee and Mr Rogers all rolled into one perfect character...
Damn right
The feels man. I cried. Beautiful scene
I was so in love with Kumiko. It's that smile.
She has only gotten more beautiful.
I'm probably reading too deeply, but it feels like Kumiko slips back into Japanese, "tanmei", when reading the letter because it's such an important word. A most revered member of any family.
I am 56 years old and this series has caused me to cry more than any other series I have ever watched...You feel such a connection with the actors because you were there when they first met and now they are back together and bringing back and making new memories...I love this damn show.

I got tears by seeing this. 😢😭
Even after death, Miyagi can still help Daniel.
Man this was so powerful not afraid to admit I cried Mr. Miyagi was like my Uncle who passed away last year. And the way Daniel looked up and said thank you Mr.Miyagi the feel's man.
I really think Mr. Miyagi is the most likeable character I've ever seen on screen. I can't think of anyone that tops him.
@@darkengine5931 I can't either.
@@darkengine5931 Star Trek next generation is great made a sequel to it too called Star Trek Picard.
