Puts a smile on your face to see how simple but durable equipment was made to last. Like a 1917 Model T...with a crank handle to start....no battery. Got to love the people back then. THANK YOU!!
Steve, old tractors have a special place in my history. At 8 years old, I learned basic driving skills on my Grandad's '46 Ford 8N tractor. I was brush hoggin' not long after that. Tractors like these are from men worked as hard as their machines. No A/C, no radios or GPS. If they broke down, you fixed them yourself, even if you had to rebuild the motor! It's good to know at least some folks keep their history alive for others to know and understand...
@@WelderUpVegas I'm always amazed how stuff doesn't rot away down their like it does up here in Wi.! Not a lot of really old trucks left up here and if I do find one half of it is rotted away!
Still love tractors. Grew up on a farm in MN until I was 12. We didn't have any John Deeres but our neighbors did, just like these. Ours were all Farmalls and Oliver's. Steve, you are correct in saying how simple they are. I've known of people with limited mechanical skills that totally overhauled tractors.
I just moved to Georgia and bought some land. You have no idea how much I appreciate your collection. I have a long list of big tools I need to manage all these trees.
A buddy of mine collects old tractors and big engines and has a bunch around has property for yard art. When he was in his 20's he had a machine shop on his property and would fabricate his own parts when he couldn't find what he needed while restoring some of these old tractors. He has a few engines that are so big their are mounted to the frame of a small semi truck. He has a huge engine similar to that one with the wheel you have to spin to start, it is in his front yard and he uses air and propane to fire it up without having to spin the big wheel in the side. He has saved over 45 old tractors from the scrap yard from early 1930's-1970's and had them around his property as art.
Crazy how far it's come from the first season. They have a few episodes on this morning, brought back memories..Miss the shows on TV, but get why. Been a fan from way back.
My dad grew up driving them on the farm in Maine he inherited one from my grandpa when he passed. My grandpa had several of them some of them went to his sons. They were John Deere like the one you driving. My dad also bought other from someone they need be restored.
Thank you for sharing! My grandfather insisted on the 2 cylinder hand clutch John Deere. He bought the last new 2 cylinder tractor Dealership had in 1959.
awesome video. I have six old tractors, 1939 JD G, 53 JD 60, 49 Farmall cub, 51 JD B, 1957 JD 420, and a farmall 404. My Dad has about 50 or so. I love to see someone with the appreciation of old tractors. Many people have a passion for old cars, but not many for old tractors. I hope you're able to keep adding to your collection.
Those old Tractors are so cool. I have always wanted one like that Massey Ferguson or a old ford N8. I've always been a chevy guy but and old ford would be cool to have to. Thanks for sharing Steve👍
Hey Steve, my buddy has a running 1917 Holt 75 “War Holt”. It was built to pull artillery in France. His dad bought it and used to to plow the fields in Yolo county for more than 40 years. Now my buddy keeps it in his barn and fires it up once every few years for fun. Such a cool and very rare tractor.
I grew up with old John Deere Model A'S B'S and model 50'S, I can remember spinning the flywheels to start the B and the A My dad also had a 1947 John Deere Lindman crawler bulldoze that he used a lot on the farm, It had to be started by spinning the flywheel too! Tose would wear you out if the plugs got weak!
You're missing the oil bath on the air cleaner. I grew up using a buzz rig. I have a few older tractors and a couple gas engines. Plus other farm related items in various states of disrepair! 😄
My grandfather had Internationals and Fords for tractors. Love the 8n's my dad has had a couple over the years. Have a uncle that has an old tobacco tractor. Love the sound of those motors.
Have you been to Rollag, MN for the steam show Labor Day weekend? You would really enjoy it, they have a full size steam train that circles the grounds plus a area with running steam shovels it’s a awesome show
You are so passionate in everything you do and create keep up the good work and your home and yard must look amazing with all the history you have collected over time, keep the video's coming enjoy watching them all 😍🏴♥️ xx
hi steve your tractors are pretty cool you need an air cleaner on your old model A tractor or hook up an air filter to keep dust and dirt out of the engine the old hit and miss engine is cool too
Great video Steve. I love old tractors and machinery like you have there. Love the old signs for sure. You got a really cool place to hang out at. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for sharing back in the 70's I worked in the oil patch in Kansas. I saw many oil wells running on the old hit and miss motors. They would run all day and night without any problems. Now on to the A. My gpa had one and I learned at a young age how to start it. He passed away in 65 when I was 13 years old. When they had the farm sale I spun that fly wheel over one time and it fired right up. I found out later the guy who bought it said if a kid can start it that easy then it must be a good tractor. When I was two I was going to help out my gpa while he was in drinking his coffee. I took a bucket of water and I was going to fill the radiator like I saw him do. Only problem I couldn't reach the radiator. So I climbed on the seat and there was a cap in front of the steering wheel. So I dumped the water in the tank that happened to be the fuel tank. Being 2 I probably didn't get very much water in the tank. The tractor still ran because they ran on about anything.
I remember the hit and miss in the parking lot of the shop while I was on vacation in Vegas. My buddy and I gave it couple of spinnes and it sounded like it wanted to fire it up! We then quietly shuffled off figuring we would catch hell if we started it!🤣
The old tractors are cool and I live 2 mins away from were the massy tractor was built my dad worked at the massy ferguson factory like many of the old boys years ago but now its all gone knocked down to build houses what a shame .like to see more videos like this .also the hit and miss motor is so cool.keep up the good work
