PURE Magic SHOWMANSHIP at its best!!!!!! make no mistake, you can take any BAND over the last 30 or 40 years all together they CAN'T HOLD A FLICKER OF FLAME TO EARTH WIND & FIRE!!!!! YES I SAID IT!!!!!!!!
I was blessed to see these live shows back in the 70's & 80's many, many times, sometimes we'd go see them 3 straight nights in different cities...the best live shows I've EVER seen in my life. Love comin on here and re-living them...
I understand. Saw them about three to four ti,es during that period. Just AMAZING! Actually stood up on a folding chair dancing like a nut, and fell over the aisle behind. Got up and kept going. 🤣🤣🤣. TIIIIGGGHHT
DYNAMIC!! G-d bless Maurice White & EWF! I am blessed to have seen them live 3Xs in the 70s! What a great memory to have in my mind for the rest of my life! ❤️🎶🎵
Their concerts from 1979 seem to be their best. Always good no matter what or when. But the energy here at that time seemed to be at their most highest. And always it's such a pleasure to see Maurice White perform. Amazing!!!!
Ewf at their peak 75'-81. Total powerhouses. Each player was gifted phenomenally, Together they made the baddest group in the UNIVERSE. Maurice,Verdine,Al,Johnny,Fred,Ralph,Larry,Philip,Andrew,DON,Rahmlee,Satterfield& Michael Harris. Best LIVE SHOW EWF Had! Today EWF dont measure up.
I came home to see the birth of my first born on the 6th of October 1976 in South Bend Indiana then seen the same show in Bloomington Indiana the next day
I used to play this in a band when it was new. Almost impossible at the record tempo but this makes my arm ache just watching Al MacKay funking out on guitar! Greatest band ever!
i woke up this morning with this playing in my head! then i had to look it up ..to find the title of it so i could find it! i found it! LOL! this is da JAMmmmmm!! I WITNESSED as least 3 EWF live performances ..unreal! mind blowing performances...i was speechless after leaving the show!!
Jeez! The Phenix Horns were just radioactive! Some of the licks they could pull off...man! I'm the world's biggest Tower of Power fan, but some of the licks these guys could pull off...my god!
GUESS WHAT FOLK'S 2DAY IS NEW YEAR'S EVE AND THIS MY 1ST CHOICE OF SONG LOVE LOVE THIS !!!!!HAPPY NEW YEAR'S TO THE ENTIRE EWF FAMILY THANK YOU MAURICE ANDREW LARRY PHILIP VERDINE FRED AL RALPH JOB WELL DONE! !!!!!!!!! 👍👍👍👍😛
@newmonii I understand michael harris was the master mind behind the rapid horn playing..I met louis and ramlee at a 1981 concert in Oakland California..never forget it..
PHENIX HORNS, featuring the late, great Mr. Donald Myrick on alto saxophone; I can't recall the other three ... wait, Louis Satterfield on Trombone; he showed Verdine how to play bass ... the others are Michael Ramlee, trumpet and the last hornman I can't recall. PHENIX HORNS would eventually leave EWF, and join Phil Collins' touring band ... I saw em at Pittsburgh's Civic Arena in 85 - they wore melon-orange suits, against the grunge look of Phil's band. Still an unforgettable music night in the Burgh. PhilC is still a legendary talent. drummer/vocalist/arranger.
Tonna Thomas one of the guys that played horns for them was henry miles sax man from springfield,il keyboards was larry dunn i knew his mother ms,dunn for yrs back in the late 70's 80"s R.I.P ms dunn..she was a sweet! sweet! woman...from 70th and eastend.chicago,il
@@nyja33 The Phenix Horns Esq., are my dad, Lui-Lui Satterfield * Trombone Don yrick * Sax - RahmLee Michael Davis * Trumpet and Michael Harris * Trumpet 🙂
OMG!!! MAGIC MIND!!! 'movin soon...upper room...paid your dues now your through feelin blue!" LOVE IT!!! They always followed deep lyrics with funky instrumentation! This live version is amazing! Check this song out on LIVE IN RIO 1980, the horns out do themselves on that one!!!
What many don't realize is that the groove they got going is directly reminiscent of Gospel "Shout" music. Fast, tight and in the pocket. Check the bassline and the horn parts.
Maurice white's vision almost didn't happen. It was his manager That encouraged Him to bring in younger people to support His vision I said this before A lot of people didn't know that Philip Bailey And the rest of The guys Did not start in the very beginning of Earth wind and fire. The earlier guys were Maurice white Age Maurice white did not wanna be a routine black Group He wanted to cross over And expand The sound! That was very hard to do back then The radio stations were very segregated But a little tenacity And he did it With the help of Charles stepney That's the way of the world put them on the map that was their 1st biggest hit! The rest is history 40 years and still going.!💯
That was some hella awesome horn-playing! And I used to play jazz for 35 years on sax, flute and clarinet. Really tight section playing there. Drum Corps brass sections should try that.
please please listen to the very end of the song this is what makes them number 1 you heat Larry dunn going off on the organ along with Al mckay making that guitar sing Verdine is playing crystal clear Fred white is a beast on the drums you can hear him beating the hell out of those skins the whole arrangements is one of the best i have heard by far! !!!
If you notice that the horns get a little off at a couple of moments, understand that that horn arrangement is extremely difficult. And EW&F's horn section was possibly the best horn section in popular music at the time. I miss the days when the music you heard came directly from the musician's fingers/mouth. There was an excitement to seeing and hearing something like this that just can't be replicated by synths and samples.
Man, is that a horn section or what? Funky butt all the way. Love those outside lines they blow too. Just dynamite playing from everyone, which is why EWF were so great. No one today can match this.
The great live album gratitude one great show wow rip mw mis you

Best EWF live footage on the internet. This is why they are in a class by themselves. PHENIX HORNS ARE GETTING SILLY ON THIS ONE!!!
Their concerts from 1979 seem to be their best. Always good no matter what or when. But the energy here at that time seemed to be at their most highest. And always it's such a pleasure to see Maurice White perform. Amazing!!!!
MAURICE THE MUSICAL GENERAL DIRECTING HIS TROOPS. THIS WAS TRULY AWESOME TO WATCH. THIS SONG ALONE IS WORTH THE PRICE OF THE CONCERT TICKET.
