- The NDR Symphony Orchestra (today: NDR Elbphilharmonie Orchestra) plays Robert Schumann's Symphony No.1 in B flat major - also called "Spring" - under the baton of its then Chief Conductor Christoph von Dohnányi. Recorded at the Laeiszhalle Hamburg in 2008.

In my opinion, the best and most famous Schumann's four symphonies, and one of my 10 symphonies ever.
First time I see Christoph von D. conducting. Very nice rendition of the Spring symphony. Great sound. Recommend also listening to his recordings of Bruckner symphonies with the Cleveland Orchestra.

I've longed owned Christoph von Dohnanyi's fine Schumann set with the Cleveland Orchestra. Great to view this live performance from Hamburg, with the same orchestra that played Bruckner so well for Gunter Wand. Thanks for digging it out of your archives in time to celebrate the New Year! Cheers!!!

Wunderschöne Aufführung dieser romantischen und perfekt komponierten Sinfonie mit seidigen Tönen aller Streicher, milden Tönen aller Holzbläser und brillanten Tönen aller Blechbläser. Der letzte Satz klingt besonders schön und echt begeisternd. Der intelligente und unvergleichliche Chefdirigent leitet das ausgezeichnete Orchester im lebhaften Tempo und mit perfekt kontrollierter Dynamik. Alles ist wunderbar!

Wonderful performance. The orchestra has a great German sound with a perfect balance and accurate ensemble, which contributes to realize the idea of the great conductor. I am really happy hear the beautiful performance of Schumann. Thanks for the upload.

Of course the performance is excellent. The camera work is excellent as well. The director did a very good job of studying the song before shooting it. It's great.
