My granddaddy had a farm in Northwest Florida of 300 acres. My uncle shared a John Deere H 6:07 with him and then granddaddy bought a John Deere B. I fondly remember it.
I've collected a few early seed drills over the years, but never tried to seed Alfalfa with one. Only recently have I found one with the grass seed attachment. It's an Oliver Superior with the wood boxes. A neighbor had it, I last saw it out in the field back in the early 70s when last used, but they kept it inside for a backup if needed. It was out a few seasons after the one son passed away and they sold all the newer equipment in the Bankruptcy. Then back into storage after refinanced and another sibling took over. I got it last spring at a local consignment sale. How did your seeding stand work out?
That M runs like a finely tuned Swiss watch. Love seeing the old machinery working so well.
Thanks! Yes, that little model M runs very well.
I love watching the M work. I grew up on a 47 M. As I see yours working and running, it brings back so many memories. My brother has our M.
That's cool!
Great setup. A few years ago I planted my first alfalfa with a John Deere A and 10ft JD 9300 drill. Despite the age of the equipment it worked great.
Yes, that little drill is easy to manage. It doesn't plant as fast as the really wide ones, but it's very maneuverable.
The "hitch hiker" riding on the back is priceless!!!
Isn't that what the little bench is for? Grandkids to ride on!
Late to the video here. Those mountains sure are beautiful. Seeing the land being worked with a model m is like a painting. 👍👍
Ha ha! Yeah, I love living in the mountain valley

Planting with a new drill is always a gamble. But everything worked great. It planted very evenly once we got the feed rate right

I just bought a M. What kind of planter is that.
I think it's a model B drill, but I'm not sure. It's 10 feet wide and does not have hydraulics.
If seeding no grass with the alfalfa you should be 10lbs plus per acre. 35 lbs on the oats is pretty light as well even for a cover crop
Thanks for the info. I can't remember where we left off on the rate, but the crop came in very nice and even.
